Well.........
Got the car out the garage last night, and there was "a noise".... You know the noise....that one that doesn't sound right, doesn't sound normal, but you aren't quite sure whats wrong! After a quick facetime session with Mr Rob, and numerous texts to Mr Dave, I decided to drive to Charlies anyway and see what was what. Well as the drive progressed the noise got louder, and louder, and the car got slower, and slower, so driving off boost all the way was my safe method. Got to Charlie's, and after Dave plugged in it showed some unhappy timing advance.............whatever that is! ha ha  Charlie got in, revved it once, and both Dave and Charlie instantly realised I had blown gaskets on the up-pipe, or manifold. I coaxed the car back home, and have now ordered up every gasket to ensure I can replace all of them so as to be safe. Hopefully its nothing more than a gasket and not a hole in the up-pipe or something more serious e.t.c. Shouldn't be the turbo to Up-Pipe gasket as that was brand new two weeks ago when the turbo was fitted. So after feeling sorry for myself, and ordering the gaskets, I decided to order up a few more parts: Rear Trailing Arm bolt kit Rear Lateral Link Bolt Kit RCM Baffle Plate to go with my RCM Baffled Sump This should then be all the parts needed to get my gaskets sorted, rear drop links, rear control arms, rear trailing arms all replaced, and get the RCM Baffled Sump and Baffle Plate installed, RCM 11mm Oil Pump, Cosworth Timing Belt Kit fitted, new water pump, and another oil change done. All hopefully before 15th July when I might finally get to Charlie's and get the car on the Dyno, probably to only find out im getting 355bhp not 380bhp  That is all.........For now...... :ok: |
Errh baffle plate is a waste with a baffled sump !
Know about the feeling sorry for yourself bit ! |

I have heard stories for and against having both... RCM say both can be used in conjunction with each other and although I know I won't be racing it hard enough to warrant both, at least this way I know I have the best protection I can have :ok: Now - where's that noose! |
That feeling sucks all been there one way or another..
some great bits going on |
Nothing like ordering parts to make you feel better :)
|
Shame to hear of the issues mate, with the problem occurring only two weeks after all the work on your car it'll be related. If you don't think its the gasket between uppipe/turbo then i suspect the one at the bottom of the uppipe, could easily have been disturbed during your turbo swap.
Hope you get it sorted easily enough and the figures are what you expect mate :ok: |

Cheers steve :ok: Have a good day today :ok: |

Hope the problem isn't to serious. Good idea to order more parts, you can never have enough new BITS.
|
The Bug...
I'd save your money with the baffled plate if you can dude, it really is not needed at all with a group N sump.
I reckon it will be manifold to up-pipe gasket, it's not too bad a job to do on yours take half an hour! :) Good to see you both yesterday! |

Was great to catch up with you as well mate :ok: |
as above Ryan i thought we had previously had this convo that i wouldn't use a baffle plate with a pukka sump................
exhaust gasket should be easy repair and carry all required on the shelf if needs be |

gaskets already ordered (I have to share the love sometimes), but I will be on to you soon for service parts... |
Stoopid comes to mind:lol: anyway hope you get things sorted and get on the dyno for a power run to see what the old girl is pushing after some love .:-D

Well car is due to a local MOT place tomorrow to have exhaust gaskets looked at... hoping that's all it is and nothing more serious as driving 150mtrs up the road and I had small smell of burning and little wofts of smoke coming from under the bonnet! Checked and couldn't see anything when static... it's a 8 mile drive to the garage and it's only to see what needs doing so they can quote although will try and sweet talk them to do what they find if they can! We shall see!
|
You where supposed to jack it up and take a look! :) x fingers it will just be a gasket

Yes I know - but then my mechanic was gonna do them when he does all the other bits but he had to postpone coz of family issue and so I have to get gaskets sorted before Beaulieu otherwise I'm a no go! U know me and mechanics dave - all the gear and no idea! |
Could just be rocker cover gasket weeping and dripping onto headers.
|
Yeah could be - although we're only replaced year ago both sides... I shall update all tomorrow when I know more!
|
Well none the wiser tbh... up-pipe and turbo to exhaust both seem to be blowing but also turbo making some weird noises so down to Jules on Saturday to see what's going on and hopefully fix enough to get me to Beaulieu on Sunday - time will tell...
|
Well at Jules with the motor and we have some answers...
Turbo to exhaust - one bolt not put on bottom when turbo installed allowing gasket to blow... Up-pipe - two nuts put on one bolt so one bolt not having nut on also caused blow... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...24a22ad7bd.jpg Few more bits come off car for upgrading... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7297edbbe7.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...18281dac76.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6f38289c7f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...75e3731901.jpg |
Remember to grease those adjusters on the hardrace kit dont want them going like mine lol.

Mapper installed new turbo and gaskets... |

A small blow like that is going to make nigh on no difference to spool so pretty undetectable from a mapping/ECU perspective. A split up-pipe flex joint is a bit easier to spot due to the hole tending to be alot bigger.
A bit of a slap dash fit though TBH! |
What you doing with your old trailing arms and lateral arms .
|
Dunno why
