Well gaskets sorted, and hardrace suspension bits all installed and waiting for geo setup Tuesday...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5ef2e16347.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...efdeb60721.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6666fb7820.jpg Once geo setup is done then all adjusters will be greased up to prevent rust... Also ordered uprated injectors so that I have no components restricting performance at all - and also future proofs the car should I decide to go 2.1 stroker and bigger turbo next year. Finally, I am speaking with cobra exhausts about supplying a 3" pipe track back box only so I can swap it on and off when I feel like being brave again  During this week Jules will be installing RCM Baffled Sump, cosworth timing belt kit and pulleys etc, new plugs, new oil & filter, coolant change, fuel filter, RCM 11mm uprated oil pump, new water pump, and the RCM catch can I nabbed of C.J if we can find somewhere to mount it... Then hopefully I collect the car next sat all sorted :ok: |
Ok so because I'm an untrusting so and so - I decided to do some research on the "SC38" I bought.
Now I believe (and I am not the most knowledgable by any means) that an SC38 is meant to be an 18g turbo. Although scoobyclinic don't state a grammage on their website, having read some forumns I believe the general Rule of thumb is: SC36 - 360bhp - 16g SC38 - 380bhp - 18g SC40 - 400bhp - 20g And so on..... Well I took a look at my Blouch Turbo box that the new "SC38" came in. There was an "SC38 Billet" sticker placed over the blouch product code however it was also on the bottom... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0d29ff7ad5.jpg So I looked on blouch website to confirm what I was reading and indeed - the barcode product is actually a 16g not 18g - so I believe actually an SC36. Now my order was delayed by some 2-3weeks with "customs clearance" being stated as the reason - after much chasing it finally arrived. I am now wondering whether I got sent something else just to ensure I got something as it was so late. Strangely blouch reckon their 16g Turbo can make 410bhp but I haven't read anywhere of 16g turbos making that sort of power (again I am happy to be proved wrong). https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f4bd4c571c.jpg Now this all stems because when mapped, I got only 355bhp from a setup that "should" have given around 380bhp at least. People's views and thoughts? I have also emailed scoobyclinic for their opinions. Ryan |
Looks like you need to have a serious talk with Scoobyclinic.
|
Indeed - I feel my only problem may be it was originally bought on the 17th January, but not installed until 30th May so only been on car 2 months and covered a couple hundred miles...
|
If Scoobyclinic sold you something that was branded up to be one thing and turns out it's something else I think you are totally in the driving seat.
|
Well I have a reply from Scooby clinic stating they re-boxed it as the SC38 box was dirty! What codswallop.. he has confirmed that an SC38 should indeed be an 18g so he wants pics as he thinks he can tell visually..... hmmmmm
|
One thing to consider with the hard race arms is rather than greasing the adaptors put some waxoyl or similar on them (dinotrol clear would be good). This will mean they are a bit harder to adjust in the future wth cleaning needed etc. but at least they will adjust!

Smart idea that nick thanks :ok: |
Ryan if you want you could start another thread about these turbos to see if there is any difference as i have a sc38 which i can post pics up of when i get home to compare them both if you like .

Hi mate - what would be handy is if you could measure the internal diameter of the inlet... Scoobyclinic are telling me the SC36 is 38mm Inlet internal diameter and the SC38 is 42mm.. So if u could confirm that it would be great as I'm back to Jules tomorrow with digital callipers to measure. If indeed it is an SC36 then Scooby clinic have agreed to swap it which is a result, although after asking for a list of mods they reckon they have had issues with customers using cobra systems that can take 30bhp off the power... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...008d7182bc.jpg Guess I'll find out tomorrow for definite - but scotty if u could give me that measurement it would be superb! Ryan |
Will measure it when i get home for you with a pic aswell for future reference .

Well the jury is still out with the turbo, so waiting for more info.
In the meantime, cosworth timing belt kit all fitted, water pump all done, 11mm uprated oil pump all done, modine seal done, plugs changed, fuel filter changed. Thurs eve is sump, and then no doubt more detective work on this bloody turbo! RCM injectors have just arrived, so that will be sorted soon. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...814a2cd12f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4c0654820f.jpg |
Did you get a chance to measure the turbo also its coming together nicely not long until you can test out how well your geo set will be once its done .
|
Yeah the measurements didn't match up - so new turbo being dispatched today to me... geo is all done, and yes it will be good to get it out on the road! And Lydden!
I am having trouble sourcing a quieter back box on a 3" though. I don't want to replace centre section and back box, as it would only be swapped out on track days. Closest I can get is a Hayward and Scott back box that reduces dB by around 4dB.. which isn't enough... |
Whats the required db that it needs to be . Is the db when static or moving .
|
needs to be below 100dB for Lydden static (no drive by at lydden).
But Brands and the respectable tracks () are 92dB drive by I think (sure someone can correct me - so I need a 10dB reduction, which most back boxes alone aren't going to give me. |
Cobra track version or Revolution round 4" tip

I've spoke with cobra (as I have a cobra system) and they won't sell just the 3" back box, only the centre and backbox as a combo... Ryan |

Mine is 89db at 2/3 throttle on static at Bedford which is a pain of a place for noise

Nothing wrong with 360bhp which still makes a quick car .
|
Quote:
Unless of course to have put the time, money and resources in to getting a better result then that. I'm sure everything will turn out fine, the bigger fuel pump and injectors is a wise move. |
Quote:
Indeed it does make a quick car - but as rob says - if I wanted 360bhp I would have bought an SC36 and wouldn't have bought supporting mods for more :ok: Just want the bang for my buck  (pun intended)  |
Well after a long long long day the car is ready for some action...
Mr Rob was a good sport and let me stay over his last night and then was a real sport and came with me to Plymouth, leaving at 3am this morning!!! Thanks mate - especially for sharing the driving on the way back and the pizza last night! (Nobody needs to know how we got my car out from ur flat though!) ha ha ha  New RCM 850cc injectors fitted, and new 340ltr fuel pump also installed. Remapped and dyno'd and the car is running ok, although still under power for the supposed turbo I have, but will do for now... Injectors running 60% duty and fuel pump 75% so both very comfortable. Once again - can't thank my man Rob enough for his help and support today - keeps me sane that lad :ok: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...88205e829b.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5e7c7de89c.jpg Roll on Lydden 16th sept :ok: |
Thats still a good figure i would be happy with that still be fecking quick on a track .
