I remember AlfaMale waking me up, getting in around 06.40 and most of the stop outs still managed to eat something at breakfast before 10.00 am. Apart from Joe  Ay Nige?..

Ah, you're planning a secret escape, Steve. Now I'm getting the picture.

Scooby_Greg 09-05-2012 01:38 PM

What route do you normally take down there? I have seen some directions on a prior post from Ian and Kerstin. I was talking to one of my Belgian colleagues and he advised that due to the bank holiday weekend to avoid the motorway (E19/ E40) around Brussels at all costs. He recommended the following which Google Maps says is 4hr 11m/ 419km:
https://public.sn2.livefilestore.com...un%20Route.JPG

Just wondered what route was considered the best from those that have done it before?

Scooby_Greg 09-05-2012 01:39 PM

Sorry for the giant picture - I'll see if I can get them to make it smaller!

worzel 09-05-2012 01:51 PM

Nice one Greg :ok:

We have always gone the way the Sat Nav has led us, which is via Brussels. That was poo last year and we have heard from Kerstin that it's bad this year, with lots of single lane roadworks.

Kerstin has posted a route, I'm fairly sure it's similar or the same as this one.

Don't worry about shrinking the map mate, much better like that :ok:

simba 09-05-2012 02:06 PM

antwerp route is good have been that way in the past not to the ring but down into germany antwerp is a bit slow but nothing like brux where me and tim had a moment with a artic !!

Crowman 09-05-2012 02:48 PM

As Steve said, we have always gone the same route, which is using the ring road around Brussels, and it has been a pain a couple of times.

Im going down next week, so will take the Route you have put up Greig and see how it goes.

Will be a good tester, have saved route just putting it in the Tom Tom

Hongkongfooi 09-05-2012 05:38 PM

Whatever route avoids traffic jams is okay with me:ok:

Kerstin 09-05-2012 08:17 PM

The route Greg posted is definitely better than the one via Brussel. Brussel would be sort of ok if you passed it before noon. But Antwerpen is the better option. And when you enter Germany Greg's route also avoids the huge number of one lane road works. My brother said there should be only two road works (but with two lane traffic). So I think Greg's is the best route you can take.

Crowman 09-05-2012 09:28 PM

Thanks Kerstin , that's good to hear

BIG"E" 09-05-2012 09:39 PM

I believe I am correct in saying that is the route Jimmy took when we meet him

just after he had built Niges Evo in 2010.

But going that way does it reduce the distance travelled on the derestricted roads, it might even increase it with a bit of luck?

I am not a lover of the Belgium police.

Mind you he only slowed me down to have a better look at the very rare special coloured limited edition :WR1:..

Taking cover.........

simba 10-05-2012 11:18 AM

We do this every year

It'll be different when you look tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be fine :ok:

I try to only take notice when we get to the 5 day forecast before we go. They are usually a bit more accurate

very true mate and your the 888 hero in the wet i have seen you going down the road this week in torents of the wet stuff (thats if you still got them on)

worzel 10-05-2012 12:23 PM

 Yes mate, still got them on.

Surprisingly grippy too.

It still surprises me the lap me and Nige did in the wet, mine felt a lot more sure footed than his looked!

I think James has said the same kind of thing about them, maybe its the set up?

Anger 10-05-2012 12:25 PM

No probs with 888's in the wet, just standing water and big puddles that are a little dodgy :)

Yeah, same as

Scott.T 10-05-2012 12:39 PM

I think the route Greg has posted is the usual SatNav route to Adaneu.
Going to worzels palace, the SatNav normally takes the motorway further south then loops back.

It's amazing when you think how close they are together.

We need to do a search for this route with regards to fuel :ok:

worzel 10-05-2012 12:49 PM

Just double checking, Gregs route turns left at Gent, thus missing out Brussels.

But Scott is right, doing Auderath for a map and Adenau give you 2 completely different routes from Verviers onwards.

worzel 10-05-2012 01:16 PM

Using the Shell route planner, there is a shell service station on the E313 just between Bocholtz & Aachen.

Which sells V-Power. I'm pretty sure it's not 99 though, so you will need some octane boost with you chaps.

Yes, but when you go south in Aachen that would be the route my brother warned you about because that would be the one with loads of one lane road works.

All the routes consist only of Autobahns, Tim. It's just the last few kilometers you have to go along country roads. :)

Is that where Gregs route goes?
