About 13 hours, Ian. And it would cost me €90 return (30 for the Thalys from Frankfurt to Paris or Brussels, and 60 for the Eurostar). Also an option I've got already in my mind. :)

That's one heck of a journey Kirsten! But you get to see a lot from the train!

Hi Kerstin, when I went to Leipzig for work last year we flew from Heathrow to Berlin (with British Airways), got a cab across Berlin to the train station, then got the train from Berlin to Leipzig - could you get a train from Berlin or is that a mammoth journey to your place? It took about 7 hours from Heathrow to Leipzig I think.

That's right, Steve. Although I would prefer to see a bit from the plane and get there quicker.

Hi Claire, thanks for your thoughts. :ok::nod: Anyway, I live about 200 miles south of Berlin. This would be at least a 4 hour train journey. It's an option but wherever I go, it doesn't seem to make much difference time-wise. Many thanks anyway. The good times have long gone. Until 2010 I went to Altenburg by car (70 minutes, carpark was free), then in the plane (90 minutes) to Stansted. That was nice, but they cancelled it. :sadnod:

Anyway, if you go to Leipzig next time, I could meet you there quickly.:yeah:

Took the Scoob to Brighton today only to get my front screen damaged. Now being fixed on Sarurday. My luck isn't good at the moment as the clutch on the Rav went bust to! Not happy.

Don't panic, you can buy everything on the ferry.

Lazadude 21-05-2012 10:30 AM

Should I also bring the V5 with me? Or as they call it "Machina Passport"...?

You don't need to, but I will take it. You can't have too much stuff.

Reading some of the info on the web, some countries require you to be able to prove ownership of the vehicle if you are stopped - which the V5 is the usual document to produce. (Yes, i know the new red V5's state the opposite on the top of them ;))

I've always taken mine and would recommend people do have it

Lazadude 21-05-2012 11:06 AM

I needed it every time we stopped when I was driving to Mongolia, didnt know if it is needed in Europe though.
