I have not yet heard directly from ADAC and so cannot confirm definitively but a couple of reliable local contacts say that it is still the case. If you are an ADAC plus customer you may or may not pay the €250 to Bongard but if you do pay you can claim this back. If you're speaking to ADAC directly it may be worth checking.

I will raise this issue when I have a chat with our good friend Amanda there : D .

If you find anything out in the mean time I'd appreciate any advice Greg : ) .

Let's see if I can get you free beer this time Simon, but Jo won't be allowed to be involved in the stunt as we'll pretend it's your birthday, your single, a celeb, you've never kissed a German, etc etc ; ) .

555_Si 21-04-2015 09:02 PM

Sounds good, though Jo doesn't approve.

jmcc42uk 09-05-2015 02:02 PM

Don't some bank accounts give free breakdown cover? Not sure if it's European though

scotty 18-05-2015 12:05 PM

Finally found a few companies that will cover my 18 year old jalopy .

Steve_PPP 18-05-2015 01:01 PM

Sorted my breakdown via Gary @ Keith Michaels again, thanks mate :ok:

scotty 18-05-2015 04:00 PM

555_Si 20-05-2015 11:22 AM

people with ADAC, I have myself as a member and Jo as an partner member, do we have to have individuals covered or is everyone with me covered do you know?

forgot to renew mine and just about to do it.

drakesnow 20-05-2015 12:42 PM

Everyone with you, assuming your with the vehicle when you call and are "the driver" - you are good to go : ).

drakesnow 20-05-2015 12:42 PM

This refers to ADAC plus

555_Si 20-05-2015 01:34 PM

I renewed the ADAC Plus for myself and Jo in the end as I think it was only about €20 for her, which she can use as a backup over here for our RAC membership.

thanks Chris.

Bump:angst:

Just sorted my breakdown cover:drive: (started to investigate things yesterday)

Thought i'd bump this thread from last year as I have/had the same problem with the old girl being 18 this year too:drive:

Gary@KM, He can't cover the older vehicles so be aware, I asked him first..... he's had the same problem with trying to get cover for his Evo:shock:

ADAC, this was my second choice (following reading this thread) they cover the driver (and partner if you choose) so your covered in any vehicle, which is great however, they would not commit to saying if they would repatriate my 18 year old car!! they said they would take for repair numerous times but no firm answer regarding repatriation:cuckoo: you also CANNOT apply online as it does not recognise UK postcodes.... so you have to phone

AA, Asked the AA because its who Scotty (started the original thread) used for the last trip and they would cover the vehicle:more: great I thought!! but they will not repatriate:shock: its recover and repair only... (newer vehicles should be fine) :edited to add: the AA will bring you home (provide tickets for travel) and will cover the fare for your return to collect your vehicle when its repaired.

Tried all the usual online comparison companies!! none of which would provide even a quote!! Car too old or registration number not recognised!!!

So have gone with single trip cover with (not the cheapest)RAC:ok: they WILL cover the old girl and they will cover repatrition (up to market value) of the vehicle.........:ok: (thats plenty to get the old girl(18) home if she breaks out in spots) the cover provided is also pretty good having read the documents... :edited: RAC did offer a cheaper alternative to the one I went for but repatriation was limited to £500 so you take your chance...:

I've paid for mine this morning so have cover ready and waiting for this years trip. :drive:

Hopefully it helps those of us with the more 'vintage' cars:ok:

Ouch. I've used Gary every year for european breakdown, did he say how old the car needs to be before its a problem? The bug is 2002 so i've probably got a couple more years if its a simple 'age of vehicle' restriction (rather than something fixed like pre-2000) but it sounds like I might run into the same issue in a couple of years....

No Steve, just that they are having trouble providing cover for the older cars....

I'm sure Gary will be along soon and clarify any cut off or age requirements... it may even be car specific and done by reg details?

The Supra is 1998 and considered too old:roll: by many for cover now, not just KM:cry: i'd be surprised if cover wasnt available for yours but if you do fall in to the same problem, then perhaps the info above may help you a little:nod:

scotty 28-01-2016 10:38 AM

Mmm intresting with AA as the repatirated my classic back to the uk on the last trip mind you it was funny though got to rag to hired vehicles lol .

This surprised me too:shock: I thought there would be no problem as you'd had cover previously without problem:cuckoo: again, it may be car specific or something?? either way, was told that I would be repatrited but car would be towed to garage for repair:cuckoo:

I'm all sorted now anyway, after many calls and form filling......can't wait for the trip now:doubleup:

Rdlangy1 28-01-2016 11:23 AM

Im with AA breakdown at present - reading through the above blurb - do I need to arrange a separate breakdown cover for the track e.t.c.?

Ryan :ok:

thepieman 28-01-2016 11:32 AM

It appears that the lady at the AA was describing details of the 'single trip cover' and not the full cover:boom: If your with the AA, you should be fine if you've got the 'full' cover...... its the single trip that doesn't cover repatriation:ok: you obviously need to check that you have european cover.

The recovery from the ring wont be covered by anyone apart from ADAC, even then you may have to pay and then reclaim the money later..... if your with anyone else, you pay (250euro i believe) to be recovered to the carpark, your own european recovery will then take over from the carpark....

also, if you breakdown in France on the motorway, you can only be recovered by using one of the roadside phones or Police........ you need to check your policy to see what to do in this event... the RAC one says that you must get recovered to the recovery company yard and then the RAC will take over from there.

scotty 28-01-2016 11:43 AM

Ah you go for single trip then Ron .

Scott, I've got the comprehensive - single trip cover for the trip yes....... I've got AA cover in the UK as part of my bank account 'perks' but when I enquired about european cover they said no repatriation!! It looks like if they had said repatriation with comprehensive then I would have been happy to go with AA..:boom:

Rdlangy1 28-01-2016 02:32 PM

Think I need to take a strategic approach to this...

Sort Breakdown Cover in Feb

Sort Insurance in March (when its due on both cars)

Order spending money in April

Panic in May about what ive forgotten!

:ok:

Ginola 28-01-2016 02:48 PM

Engine oil is only 600miles old but have just bought from Alyn (lunchtime today) new plugs, diff oil, air filter, engine oil and filter so I can give her a full service when I get back :ok:

I have a good strategy, run round like headless chicken between now and June.

My car list of things to do has exceeded all previous years by quite a bit.

time wise ok, bit concerned on budget.

Rdlangy1 28-01-2016 03:52 PM

never ending eh mate...At least you have an extensive fleet to choose from :ok:

Can't you bring Jo's new toy?
