My neighbour left work in Islington at 1:15pm and got home in Polegate at 9:15pm last night:shock:

He left this morning and I notice his vans back now!

Guessing its fairly bad towards M25 way?

worzel 01-12-2010 08:49 AM

I have just spoken to courier. He said anywhere north of Tunbridge Wells is really bad. Snow much deeper, roads terrible.

The difference in Crowborough is as staggering as usual. My scooby has got 6 inches on it at the top of the hill, down at work there is just 3 inches! It is a mile and a half door to door. Crowborough Hill is sheet ice from top to bottom, I have told my staff not to bother until well after 10.00am, as it's chaos.

The good old ST chugs along quite nicely in the snow, which surprised me, no traumas at all. Get her into 3rd ASAP, don't use brakes, job done :drive:

The weather people are now saying it's getting worse than they first thought. Could be another long spell! I might get the scooby down to work tomorrow and change wheels over. :santawave::santawave:

Done that already, i brushed a kerb with my 18s last year on ice, don't want to do that again.

Had the day off work for Brands, but our office in Chelwood Gate has been closed today - so would have got it off anyway!

Seeing some horror stories on the web of people abandoning cars and walking 10 miles to get home etc, Surrey and Kent look like a total no-go zone.

Weather forecasts spot on as usual eh! :waiting:

admin 01-12-2010 08:56 AM

If its going to do this regularly, i'm certainly going to consider going for a second set of wheels with some winter / full snows on:nod:

Its been fine so far but proper winters will help with the braking side of things:nod:

chris wrx 01-12-2010 09:50 AM

Snowing well in Hastings, weather men say its going to get worse , roads are getting covered , still happy days no work :-D

RobEvo5 01-12-2010 10:37 AM

Defo grim in Hastings and more to come, but trusty old scoob done its job perfectly, and got through roads 95% of cars wouldn't even try. Even parked in my firms carpark which was the only car to attempt it..... No worries.

Note the donuts in the snow ;) :D Couldn't resist

Have to keep reminding myself though, As good as the scoob is It has no breaking/stopping advantage over any other car, and you still have to worry about the other cars stuck/slidding about in front of you...

I drove up from my parents (Eastbourne) up to to work (Cranbrook) in my little old clio today. Roads werent to bad. Sounds like T Wells is pretty boned though. Leaving at lunch so hopefully I can get back to my flat up there.

Clio is no fun :(... Should have brought the scoob

Steve_PPP 01-12-2010 08:59 PM

Some pics i took whilst out in the snow today in the scoob.

Cleaned enough snow off the diesel commuter so i could move it out the way

Up on the South Downs :ok: Only a range rover and some foreign box 4x4 made it up there, quite a few people had hiked up the side of the Downs with sledges though.

Didn't get stuck anywhere :ok:

asperformance 01-12-2010 09:09 PM

had to travel to sheffield yesterday and spent about an extra 1/2hour getting back to the m/way out of sheffield and then spent an extra hour to do the last 30min part of the trip due to a wagon taking out the central reservation!!
the upside was it being quite amuzing upsetting all the lemons sitting in single file everywhere when we simply used the priority "snow" lane on most dual carriageways!!

Steve_PPP 01-12-2010 11:26 PM

coming down nicely in burgess hill now, about another 6 inches this evening i reckon.

doubt the scoob will be coming out tomorrow, think its already deeper than the ride height!

gtiteen 02-12-2010 12:30 AM

Just walked back from pub in t wells, watched people struggling badly in the snow! Couple of spinners!

DukeBoy 02-12-2010 03:51 AM

Well looking outside now and it's still coming down heavy, it's now over the centre caps on my wheels so about 11 inches deep

Yep, much more than we had last year and we thought that was bad! Definately not going to work today!

Oh, and its still falling!

worzel 02-12-2010 08:27 AM

Well, good old Crowborough has done it again.

6 - 7 inches overnight

The scoob has got an impressive layer on it for sure:

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/IMG_0197.jpg

The focus before I de-snowed it, check out the fresh snow halfway up the wheels!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/IMG_0196.jpg

And finally at work, where the Focus was taking the top layer of snow off, the scoob would have been buried in it!

Steve_PPP 02-12-2010 09:22 AM

Good effort for getting to work mate :ok:

Our office is closed again today, reckon it will be tomorrow as well.

DukeBoy 02-12-2010 09:27 AM

Whats wrong with you lightweights? Lol.......got to work ok but then again we only have 13 inches here!!!

Too much effort mate! :p

And how many customers actually bothered to bring their cars in this morning?

DukeBoy 02-12-2010 10:21 AM

Erm....none!!! Sitting here doing jack, thing is if we don't turn up we don't get paid.

worzel 02-12-2010 10:23 AM

It was a doddle getting in too. I thought I might have had a trauma or two, but the old Focus rumbled through with no issues at all.

Only passed two other cars though at 8.00am.

I have just looked out at my car and there is already another inch on it!

This must be worse than January now.

gtiteen 02-12-2010 10:30 AM

I reckon its alright driving on thick fresh snow, its when it freezes up later and the tracks turn to ice etc! My commute is t wells to cranbrook, and in the clio I'm not gonna get anywhere!

Wish i had the scoob up here for a play :(

Guy B 02-12-2010 10:56 AM

all the cold should keep it up for ages....lol

RobEvo5 02-12-2010 11:59 AM

Hastings got 12 -14" last night - But the trusty old wagon still got me into work. :D

Only spotted about 4 cars on the way to work and they were proper 4x4's....

The snow was so deep that the front of the scoob was acting like a plough, and had to clear the radiator twice...
