Mk2's have never really dropped below £20k. You get a few around £18k but most are still strong money. Especially when they were only £26k brand new!

I struggle on the road to tell the difference between ST and RS especially when the ST is in flat grey on black rims.

15 mins after writing this on the way back to the office I had a flat grey focus come round the roundabout in front of me. I was convinced it was an ST I've seen about. But then spotted it had blue badges and a crackle on the upshift.

Like that a lot Marcus :10:

A lot of ST owners seem to be ordering in the RS colours and then going with the black wheels etc. I suppose in a way the WRX to STI syndrome!.

But, like the WRX to STI, the differences are huge in terms of mechanics, engine etc. I guess its hard for a manufacturer to make a huge difference cosmetically to two performance cars based on the same car. We have a couple of modded MK2 ST's near me that need a second look to differentiate between them and an RS. They even sound the same. Same goes for Golfs. Is it a GTI, GTD, GT line or an R?.

I've never driven a MK2 RS, but have driven a Mk3 ST and the difference between that and the MK3 RS is night and day.

The blue is the only specific colour, my st estate is stealth which was a specific st3 colour before it became standard on the rs.

Have to say I tested the rs and wasn't blown away, not enough to spend that money, also all these issues popping up are making me glad I didn't buy a mk3

Stealth ST3 estate. Nice looking car. The stealth seems to work better on the estate than the hatch IMO. Yeah, true, but if it goes pop, its covered. I had all this with the Hawk and ran it for 7 years with various stages of tune and it gave me no trouble. Its just been sold again at 70k miles and is still going strong. I think alot of it with these and indeed any car is how its treated I guess.

At this rate we will have to have a Focus ST/RS meet soon. :lol:That's 5 on here I think now

Banstead Stig 13-05-2017 04:13 PM

At this rate, someone will have a mkIV and you'll still be waiting for this one...!

No. the dealer uses ETIS which gives an indication as to what stage its at ie build, flushing, boat etc. Its apparently in the country just waiting delivery.

In abid to lay down tad more traction, and just because i fancied a little spend up, went and bought a whiteline anti lift kit, got the beers out this evening and got it on, only slight aggro was removing one of the OEM bushes from the spigot as it was stuck tight,(angle grinder later, job done!) has definetly stopped it bobbing around under braking and hard throttle, also feels like its made the steering a bit more responsive,as for traction....next :angst: but i love it.
some random pics of shiney alloy and lovely beer to follow.

so an update on the car.. i noticed a few weeks back that i had a slight oil leak from around the filter housing, which i pressumed must be due to crank case pressure and after some investigation and a compression test on the engine, found out number four cylinder had lobbed a wobbly, probebrly not helped by a **** map and my heavy rite foot!! so i decided theres only one option ,and that was to get it apart and see what had happend, i found that the ring land had broken away and very luckily no damage to the liner, so off to a well established subaru/ford tuners in wrexham ,who slung in a set of k1 rods wiseco pistons arp studs etc all the usual suspects and a new forge rebuild was born!! (built for a good 700bhp this time)still on running in millege and once im done going to get another map and injectors and see what the old girl will do..
