nice one Gary, let us know if you can sort something out :10:

Steve_PPP 27-03-2010 10:40 PM

right, this is now posted on Sussex, Surrey and Kent

Scooby Si 27-03-2010 10:57 PM

Steve.. I promise not to make a habit of correcting you but you've post up a 102db limit on Surrey... It changed to 105db when the date changed ;)

Sorry mate - it was 98db i think and it changed to 102db. The 105db is for sessions at Brands that finish before 5pm :(

Its all in post #20 again :D

Scooby Si 27-03-2010 11:27 PM

You're quite right mate... 1-1 :) I'd managed to get it into my head it had changed to 105! Which leads on to me saying 'b#####ks' 105db was gonna be pushing it a bit, can't see me getting in under 102db even with the bung! :(

could join me at 3pm and go in the 105db and could sneak out :norty:

Steve_PPP 28-03-2010 04:49 PM

Right, Crowman (Martyn) has confirmed he can make it to the Sussex meet at Pease Pottage with a calibrated db meter - we can therefore do noise testing if anyone wants to know how loud their car is before booking a session at Brands.

If you've got a bung, bring that too so we can see how loud you are both with and without if necessary

The Sussex meet is at Pease Pottage service station, 12pm Sunday 4th April

I know its Easter Sunday but I hope you can all make it  If people fancy it, most people normally head over to the Flight Tavern pub for lunch at 1pm.

Don't think so - its dependent on Crowman getting the db meter from his work. I'm sure if it is possible, he'll let you know.

Lucky 29-03-2010 05:05 PM

Cant believe it, I have just found out from the mrs that we are still in the New Forrest until 19th, and travelliing back that evening :fool:

I will still try and get to the photoshoot if I can convince everyone to leave a bit early. Gutted, as I though I was back on the Sunday evening

Oh well, at least there's Dunsfold to look forward to. The family are coming on that one, and of then theres the ring trip :grin::grin:

Steve_PPP 31-03-2010 10:31 PM

bump - reminder for anyone who wants to check how noisy their cars is before booking, come along to the Sussex meet at Pease Pottage services, this Sunday at 12pm :)

i might come along for a laugh................db wise!

My Exhaust has FAILED !!!!

I have a Vortex Afterburner on a 2.5" system and it was reading 112db @ 4650 rpm.

So I would recommend those going to Brands need to get them checked on Sunday at PP.

Looks like my Prodrive back box is going back on.

Crowman 02-04-2010 05:19 PM

Guys
We just checked Rich(Dukeboys) Which is 107db
My M3 is 99db on standard system.

Duncans classic uk with prodrive system was 103db

I still think everyone should not get to anal about it,So long as your car is within 3 to 5 db of the allowable limit you should be ok.

One more thing, the db meters from maplin,RS etc are all perfectly ok but only once calibrated, we use sound level meters for acoustic surveys at work and have had off the shelf meters read as much as 9db out compared to a calibrated meter.

Granby 02-04-2010 05:23 PM

Them db's all sound a bit high in ref to the systems they have, how was they tested (at 45 degress half meter away i think is how they test them)

Moley_WRX 02-04-2010 05:25 PM

I am going to try to get to Pease Pottage on Sunday so you can use mine to check how accurate the db tester is (mine was tested at Brands and was 88bd)

I agree 100% about not being too anal.

I can't see anyone being turned away enless they are massively over the limit ;-);-)

Crowman 02-04-2010 05:34 PM

Granby
Yes half meter 45deg static test at 75% rpm

Moley
88db is very low, ambient noise in an underground station ticket office is between 75 and 80db, sad i know but we install PA/VA systems on LUL.
We have recently been installing the classical music background music you may of heard on the Northern line, This has to be set at 5db above ambient which is around 80db, dependant on size of station and its acoustic construction, just trying to give people an idea of what 80db is in reality, which is in a nutshell not very loud at all

The meter i have is not all singing and dancing, and does not need to be, the important thing is its calibrated to a 94db sound generator.

Would be interesting to test yours for sure.

P.S

Will only be there for about an hour max guys

Mine was 101db at 5250rpm when tested at Goodwood, so would be good to compare as well.

Yeah mine is very quiet, wanted a quiet one so i wouldn't get any problems in track days!!!

When it was tested at Snetterton in October it was 87db, then 88db at Brands in Feb

Scott.T 02-04-2010 07:18 PM

THE ABOVE FIGURES SOUND VERY LOUD
Mine was 97dB at Goodwood, scoobysport downpipe, centre section and tsl grp n rear box.

Crowman 02-04-2010 08:13 PM

Guys another thing is when you get tested at a track day they nearly always wander up and point the meter at the rear of car and thats it, when we tested at half a meter it was so surprising just how close that is.
I will bring the meter with cal cert to brands just to prove a point if anyone gets pulled.
Wonder if they get theres calibrated every year!
Also if your in a queue of cars and tested the db level will be considerably diferent to a test taken with no solid objects near by.
Is a shame i didnt grab our 94db signal generator to confirm the acuracy of the meter, but its cal is in date so should be fine.
I know i have been to track days at brands where evo's have been loud to say the least and they spent all day out there!

Agree 100%

If you think your exhaust will be borderline i'd say do it anyway, i am sure you'll be fine

Will be booking mine sunday (might even see if i can book it while i'm up there).....fingers crossed

Steve_PPP 04-04-2010 10:59 AM

bump, reminder that if you want to come to Brands, you can get your car noise tested at Pease Pottage services today between 12-1pm (just look for the large gathering of Subarus  )

Steve_PPP 04-04-2010 03:32 PM

thanks to Martyn for coming over to Pease Pottage with the db meter, i think it was mainly positive - most people were either fine, or way over the limit and know not to bother

mine measured 102.8db, whereas Goodwood tested it at 101db a couple of weeks ago, so not too much difference in readings. was interesting that some of the cars were reading louder at lower rpms - they make a louder burble at around 4k rpm that seems to disappear at over 5k.

Remember, if you want to book the sessions at Brands, do it before Tuesday to be guaranteed. After this, MSV will open the sessions up to the public to fill any remaining spaces!

Scooby Si 04-04-2010 07:14 PM

I think it's pretty safe to say I'm out... Will hopefully still get along for the evening and get in on the photoshoot!

Moley_WRX 04-04-2010 08:37 PM

Any more?

Scott.T 04-04-2010 09:02 PM

I won't be booking until someone fits my clutch.

Won't that increase all our premiums?

For those asking about Nur Spec Rs... Mine was 108db at tickover and 118db at 5250rpm. Bung only brought it down to 110db :yeah:

So no track time for me...
