Nice job Steve

ScoobyStu 27-10-2012 07:21 PM

Great stuff Steve, love the look of your car, can see its well looked after. Where did you get the detailing done and roughly how much is it please?

Stu if you pm the pie man on here he's the man for all things polished

Steve_PPP 27-10-2012 09:49 PM

Yep, as Tim said, drop ThePieman a PM and he might be able to sort something out. Normally a proper machine correction is pretty expensive though due to the time and effort it takes.

Tomma 28-10-2012 09:50 AM

Nice work Steve, saved yourself a few quid in labour! Is it a straight swap with no alterations needed?

Steve_PPP 28-10-2012 03:47 PM

Yes mate, surprisingly easy. The pump came with a new hiring harness with loose ends to join into the car's existing wiring, but the Subaru plug off the old pump fits straight onto the walbro so didn't need it.

Pretty easy job, although i needed a second pair of hands to help hold the frame assembly whilst i used both hands to slide the rubber fuel hose into place onto the pipework.

Cheers chaps, i'll do that when i'm ready to have it potentially done. My mate who own his own Body shhop said he will 'mop' it for me, just need a decent base to keep clean as its got loads of swirl marks on it.

impreza27 28-10-2012 08:40 PM

its always good to save some money when you can do it your self mate

Steve_PPP 03-02-2013 06:44 PM

Little update - still haven't got round to getting the decat downpipe fitted, or getting it serviced. Cam belt kit is still in the box too. But then the car only does a couple of thousand miles a year so not the end of the world, just need to make sure its done before Germany.

Spent today giving the scoob a proper clean, I used it for commuting for a week when we had snow so it was pretty filthy. Scott popped over with another set of wheels so they'll be making an appearance as soon as I get the tyres swapped.

Quick phone pic taken this evening after removing and respraying both Zunsport grilles, they were pretty badly stonechipped beforehand.

majorscooby 03-02-2013 07:03 PM

Looks lush Steve, the grills did need a touch up from when I saw them at PP. looks much sharper now with some fresh black.

SamSTI 03-02-2013 07:54 PM

Looking good steve!! What paint did you use??

Steve_PPP 03-02-2013 07:59 PM

Halfords Satin Black and lacquer, bargain

And cheers Rich :ok:

Steve_PPP 16-02-2013 07:14 PM

New wheels on today, after getting the tyres swapped over. They're 18" Ultralite Atec's.

They're not as shiny/blingy as my last set, but they're a lot easier to clean! Excuse the camera phone pics...

What width/offset are they and what width tyres are you running? I need a set set of tyres plus am thinking of spacers on the rear.

majorscooby 16-02-2013 07:30 PM

Awesome, makes it look ten times better and so aggressive looking!!!

Steve_PPP 16-02-2013 07:45 PM

Cheers Rich :)

Think the Ultralites are 18x7.5, ET48 (Scott might be able to confirm) so they're slightly further under the arches than my last set which were ET42.

DukeBoy 16-02-2013 08:12 PM

Glad you got them sorted, but personally prefer the old ones. Look to small in those pictures! Just my opinion!!!

scotty 16-02-2013 08:12 PM

The wheels give the car a nice touch Steve got anything else planned for the car this year

bonner 16-02-2013 08:23 PM

Yeah, got them sorted today. Thanks for the offer to help out though mate, just haven't really got room to jack the car in the garage and didn't want to leave it out for a few days on stands either.

They do look smaller, but i think thats because they have a quite a deep lip on them which is almost the same colour as the tyre. I like the 7-spoke style though and its a change having had the others on there for 3 or 4 years :)

Thanks, decat and remap planned (if i ever get round to it) and just service items/cam belt to get the car ready for Germany again.

The torques are currently in my lounge (wife is unimpressed  ) and will be for sale on here as soon as i've taken some pictures. The diffuser comes as a kit with the rear side spats, seem to be rocking horse poo as i've not seen another set come up for sale since i bought it....

No worries mate, there's no denying i loved the old wheels too. Just fancied a change!

bonner 17-02-2013 08:26 AM

lounge lol im just as bad the defuser makes a world of differnce!! very nice mate!

Lucky 18-02-2013 10:46 AM

WOW!!! Its incredible how different the car looks with those wheels. Liked it well enough before but I think those are absolutely spot on. Somehow they look bigger to me.

Steve_PPP 26-03-2013 08:13 PM

Another little update.....

Car was down at SMD last week for an oil service and spark plug change, fit the cam belt kit i'd bought from Alyn last year (+ water pump) and fit the decat downpipe. Car was given a good checkover and everything as it should be :)

Also managed to swap the rear door glass as it was scratched as some of you know by a certain dent repair company several years ago. Removed the glass myself and swapped it with MSR2012's glass from his JDM bug that he's recent broken. Its already tinted so that saves me a job. Also had the set of STI doorcards off him, as the set that came with my STI7 seats were marked and i never fitted them as wasn't happy with them. These ones are pretty good though :)

Also removed the rear speakers as they don't do much and its a little weight saving lol

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ps58c5ef57.jpg

Bit drafty for this time of year....

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...psa0b4dbf9.jpg

New glass in
http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ps40e0920e.jpg

And new door cards :)

Steve_PPP 26-03-2013 08:18 PM

The car has had the PPP since pretty much new but as its a bugeye the ECU had an additional circuit board added inside to raise the boost. After speaking to Scott, i know now this needs to be removed for a remap so that the ECU handles the boost control again.

So ECU out of car and PPP board removed.

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...psed96daaa.jpg

The PPP board looks like this:

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...psc91a80ea.jpg

All now back in the car and relieved that my soldering (in)ability didn't fook anything up, car still works :)

SamSTI 26-03-2013 08:27 PM

Looking good Steve

Does the car feel any different with Decat dp?

impreza27 26-03-2013 08:52 PM

looking very good steve:10: what kind off power you running now then mate?

It would be interesting to know what these boards are fully capable of as they are made by GEMS and have a lot more functionality then the PPP used.
It only connected power and the map sensor. It has a lot more pins on the edge connector that are not used in PPP guise.

Driving it off boost until mapped, so no idea what it feels like yet!

SpecB 27-03-2013 06:11 AM

Didn't realise you had to remove a board to remap the PPP's it does look like it should do a bit more than raise the boost!

So when is the remap?

Obviously I'm not the expert in this field but i think it was only the bugeye PPP's that got this board, I believe the blobs had a 'proper' Prodrive map flashed onto the factory ECU?

Remap is soon (before Goodwood).

Hongkongfooi 01-04-2013 07:42 PM

Did you have remap the other day?

SpecB 01-04-2013 08:23 PM

Do we have a new secret squirrel in the wings?

Steve_PPP 01-04-2013 10:42 PM

lol, no, not yet ;)

Tim - i got mixed up on dates.

Steve_PPP 09-05-2013 11:04 PM

Few weeks late, but thanks to Scott for sorting the map on my scoob in time for Goodwood :five: The car feels a lot better now with the decat and a bit more boost, was well chuffed out on track. I'm also happy now I know its fuelling correctly!

Few recent pictures from Goodwood:

Still haven't got round to improving the rear brakes so the balance is a bit interesting if braking on a slight curve but can't afford to do anything about it soon, so it'll stay like this for Germany :drive:

Granby 09-05-2013 11:45 PM

I don't normally like bugeyes but yours looks the business, think the wheels really suit it

majorscooby 10-05-2013 06:35 AM

I can say it goes very well in the wet!!!! Very well driven indeed.

Scooby_Greg 10-05-2013 07:32 AM

Agreed - it went very well round Goodwood! Bet you can't wait to it out at the ring
