Thats a lot of work just for an alarm clock for Moley:wink:

SUBARMAN 29-01-2010 11:41 AM

That pump looks a monster and should improve your fuel comsumption no end. For a long distance mission, you may need drop tanks.

Granby 12-03-2010 01:21 PM

Just a little update, with the APS intercooler you can't use the standard front towing eye, wasn't really too worried about it but after the track day at Brands and the marshals kept asking me about it i finally decided to get it sorted

Thanks to Alyn at AS Performance for delivering it in super quick time (and at a good price), all ready for 30-130 now :D

neat idea, was just chatting to Dukeboy about the same thing this afternoon as he's running a front mount without towing eye as well.

looks easy to tuck away behind the fog cover when not needed :)

Granby 12-03-2010 04:15 PM

Yeah thats what ive done, when its not needed its tucked behind the fog light cover, and when needed it can poke its tongue out at people :p

Well that tow strap came in useful today unfortunately as number 3 piston let go while at RAF Marham for the MLR 30-130

Very sorry to hear that mate. :sadno::sadno:

Did you get any runs in or did it go bang on the 1st run??

Granby 14-03-2010 10:09 PM

The first run, you think it would of let me get at least one time up on the board :-(

Johnny Bonkers 15-03-2010 09:35 AM

From No1 Lab to our favourite pilot:

This is very sad news.

The Boffins in No 1 Lab were all weeping today when they heard the news, especially as you were in the very early stages of the mission!! All experiments have been put on hold as a mark of respect.

Our "tests" have confirmed that the towing strap was in no way a supporting factor in your mishap, and we know that your superb wagon will rise again to feature in the annals of Squadron history.

We look forward to it's return to operational status!!

Posted on behalf of all the Boffins!!

Maybe a long shot but does anyone have a bore scope that they could lend me (or do it for me so they know what they are looking at) so i can see what damage has been done to my engine before i decide what to do next

Thanks
Ian

worzel 15-03-2010 12:27 PM

I would imagine that Clive will know of someone?

Squadron-Leader 15-03-2010 05:58 PM

How did you diagnose it was No.3 so quickly ?
Disconnect the injectors in turn to see which one stops rattling ??

No tip on the spark plug that came out of that cylinder and when we did a compression test there was NO compression

Granby 24-03-2010 08:12 PM

Cars having the engine pulled out next week so should hopefully find out the extent of the damage

DukeBoy 24-03-2010 08:36 PM

Could always have alook inside with a Borescope before you rip it apart to get an idea of damage.

Johnny Bonkers 25-03-2010 09:53 AM

Good luck Old Chap!!

Granby 01-04-2010 06:53 PM

Got my spark plugs back from NGK today after they examined them to find out why one should break up

There conclusions were that it was caused by severe overheating and that is was down to abnormal combustion

Abnormal Combustion
Abnormal combustion reasons include ignition timing related problems, oil entering the combustion chamber, leaking fuel injector or spray pattern etc

BIG"E" 01-04-2010 07:37 PM

So is the engine fooked or not ??

Or is it just the spark plug.?

I supose the 6,000,000 $ question is: any ideas what caused this?

Ouch...still a 2.1 from lateral is relatively cheap good for 500bhp!:angst:

DukeBoy 02-04-2010 07:24 PM

Oh dear not good!!!

BIG"E" 02-04-2010 07:32 PM

I know nothing about engines and mechanics.

Can the one piston not be replaced and the cylinder be rebored if nesesary?

Presumably its not as easy as that.?

Sorry its bad news Granby.

Nige 02-04-2010 07:46 PM

Mmmmmmmm not good mate. Thats worse than Worzels . Good luck with the repair mate. Dont sell it though

SUBARMAN 03-04-2010 09:45 AM
