Looking good Shane :10:

Red Baron 22-06-2018 03:06 PM

Just need to fit it now...

...and swap the fans over as the 4 blade one should be on the other side.

Steve_PPP 22-06-2018 03:22 PM

Wow that fan assembly is clean, nice work :ok:

scooby doo 22-06-2018 03:31 PM

Looks a clean set up,

Red Baron 22-06-2018 03:41 PM

Blasted, plated and powder coated, they won't rust again, fan blades were cleaned with autosol metal polish of all things, seemed to work well, new stainless nuts holding the fans in and new stainless bolts for the shroud mounts, just need to find a way of securing the connectors to the shrouds as the little clips fell apart, don't want to leave them loose as they are next to the headers.
Will do the cam belt while I have access and Probably fit the new bumper bar that I've had for about 5 years.

Nice.:10:

NL03Scooby 22-06-2018 04:41 PM

Proper job, good stuff Shane.

scotty 22-06-2018 07:48 PM

What a difference well worth the effort.

Red Baron 22-06-2018 09:00 PM

I'll take photo of the left over pieces from the old one when I get round to taking it out.

Agreed :agreed::10:

Red Baron 14-07-2018 05:04 PM

As some will have seen from Facebook, it's been a busy day:

Old rad and fans out, told you they were bad.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1828/...fb456ef0_c.jpg

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/836/4...590048ba_c.jpg

Thankfully no real rust in the front panel where the rad mounts, it's had a rub down and a coat of paint to clean it up.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/916/4...dd2d0013_c.jpg

Also sorted out the bumper bar, I saw this was a bit crusty not long after I got the car in 2012 when I changed a sidelight bulb. I picked up one from JPP from an imported V3/4 STI, thought it was about time I fitted it, hadn't realised how different they were.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1767/...1b5ce99e_c.jpg

Was about to get the grinder out but thought I'd do a trial fit before I painted it and the bumper fits over it fine, so bolted in place, one less job to do.

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/923/4...af3f91ee_c.jpg.

Next job for tomorrow is cam belt whilst there's plenty of room and then put it all back together again.

Scott.T 14-07-2018 05:21 PM

Good work, Looks like that's the next job for me. Better to be safe than sorry.
Link to fan shrouds and rad would be useful ;o)

Red Baron 14-07-2018 05:36 PM

Fan shrouds were given to me, I just stripped them down and dropped them to the powder coasters, rad was an eBay special. Only other thing you'll need is new hose clips and for piece of mind, new top and bottom hoses.

Scott.T 14-07-2018 06:55 PM

Did you use Hastings powder&paint as I thought they had quite a high minimum order ££

Red Baron 14-07-2018 07:44 PM

Yep, they did them for £30.

scooby doo 15-07-2018 02:59 PM

all go then

Red Baron 15-07-2018 04:54 PM

Yep, all done. Cam belt, tensioner and all pulleys and idler, new aux belts, new radiator, fans and shrouds, new bumper bar and a fresh load of coolant.

Filled it in reverse from the turbo hose with the heater open until the header tank was full, ran until the temperature Gauge was nearly half way, topped up header and expansion and cap on and ran till the fans cut in. Allowed to cool and topped up with a small amount. Been out for a blast on this hot day and no problems.

scooby doo 15-07-2018 05:03 PM

Spot on that's exactly how I did mine. Should be good for ages now. Worth looking at other hoses tho that turbo hose you filled from I found mine not to seal
Properly again after so ended with new one and clips

Red Baron 15-07-2018 05:11 PM

Top and bottom hoses, turbo hose and the 2 thin ones from the header tank to rad and expansion bottle are now silicone with new jubilee clips.

Just need to save pennies for a new clutch now.

scooby doo 15-07-2018 05:56 PM

Good shout.

Red Baron 08-09-2018 06:13 PM

I don't care if it can't be seen, I couldn't fit looking like that.

So ended up like this:

Great job cleaning up there Shane :ok:

Steve_PPP 08-09-2018 07:20 PM

Nobody likes a dirty pipe :ok:

Red Baron 14-09-2018 03:45 PM

Seem to spend more time cleaning parts than I do the car, picked up some alloy front wishbones all the way from bonnie Scotland, were a little dirty so say the least.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1844/...10698bff_c.jpg

Quick pressure wash.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1893/...2a545387_c.jpg

De-grease

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1864/...5b6956fc_c.jpg

And a light rub down

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1844/...cc7bc600_c.jpg

Just need to order a new set of drop links, possibly polly bush them and get them fitted

Bolesroor 14-09-2018 06:29 PM

Good job there Shane :ok:

SpecB 14-09-2018 06:36 PM

Looking good - I’m after some JDM alloy arms for the legacy seems pointless re-bushing the steel ones

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

scooby doo 14-09-2018 10:56 PM

They came up alright didn't they,

Red Baron 14-09-2018 11:32 PM

Found these by chance off one of the Facebook groups, got the pair delivered for less than the price of an aftermarket steel arm so quite happy.

Red Baron 17-05-2019 04:08 PM

Finally fitted it 8 months later, having just fired it up for the first time I don't think the neighbours are going to be impressed.

scooby doo 17-05-2019 05:33 PM

Lol have to refit the Prodrive , interesting to here it as seen a tsl group N on eBay I was going to buy.

Rdlangy1 17-05-2019 05:35 PM

Red Baron 17-05-2019 06:20 PM

Here you go for those of you without Facebook.

Rdlangy1 17-05-2019 06:21 PM

Like that! Nice

scooby doo 17-05-2019 06:30 PM

Very nice, have you driven it?

Red Baron 17-05-2019 07:36 PM

Just nipped out in it to drop the boy at air cadets, definitely louder but hadn't driven it for 3 weeks so difficult to say how much. Not driven it hard as need to put the Apexi in and get it mapped.

scooby doo 17-05-2019 08:00 PM

Cool

Red Baron 20-07-2019 05:41 PM

Well finally got the alloy lower arms, new droplinks and new ball joints fitted today, wasn't too bad a job other than rounding off one of the pinch bolts on the ball joints, got it undone with a 13mm impact socket hammered onto it in the end.

Also a bit of new under bonnet bling, how do the chinese manage to do these for £4.99 delivered, the STI logo is even up the right way when its fitted.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0100704b_b.jpg

Red Baron 28-09-2019 05:48 PM

Had this fitted for a few weeks now and forgot I finally got a photo of it lit up at night, 60mm Apexi boost gauge that I got from Leighton in a modified 52mm GC8 specific pillar pod, nice colour match to the rest of the dash both in in daylight and when illuminated. Tried loads of methods of mounting the pod without putting a screw into the A pillar but had to give in as it just wouldn't sit flush or stay in place.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...fa38864b_b.jpg[/url]

Also mounted the Power FC Commander, really need to get round to fitting the Power FC as well now.

scooby doo 29-09-2019 08:54 AM

The green and red work well with the oem clusters.

Leight 29-09-2019 10:19 AM

Looks good in your car I did love the gauge but wanted more and couldn't find any that match.
