Castle Combe Rally Day & Welsh Tour - 19th to 21st Sept 2019

CANCELLED AS A SES SUPPORTED EVENT

It is planned for 2019 for SES to attend in an official capacity the Rally Day held annually at Castle Combe : http://rallyday.com/

I attended unofficially last year whilst supporting Oliver with some Lancia filming and thought it would be a fantastic event for SES.
As it's quite a long slog to get to Castle Combe it would also be a good excuse to combine this with a nip over the boarder into Wales for some Welsh road driving.

The plan would be as follows :

Thursday 19th September :
Day 1 : Early start and head into South Wales, to enjoy the many great driving roads in the area.
Night 1 : Premier Inn for Food, Beers, Bed and Breakfast (Currently £30 per Room + Breakfast)

Day 2 : More adventures in/around Mid/South Wales
Night 2 : Country Pub close to Castle Combe or another Premier Inn (Chippenham) for Food, Beers, Bed and Breakfast

Day 3 : Attendance at Rally Day

The advantage of enjoying Welsh Road on a Thurs/Fri is (hopefully) less speed checks. Having been into Wales a few times in recent years our friends with radar like to come out at the weekends.

Sounds like a fantastic couple of days - always wanted to do this type of thing however unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to make the fri or the sat so not much point me coming just for the Thurs...

No need for me to worry about peeps with radar though, having just attended an awareness course on behalf of the Local constabulary I am now fully conversant in the correct speed for any road. :-D

Depending on timings we could include mid and North Wales.
If any of you read Evo or watch YouTube clips from Evo, Carfectiom, Chris Harris these roads throughout Wales are often used. It's not often an Evo magazine issue passes by without me spotting one in print

Is there still interest to attend this event ?

Either the day before in Wales followed by Rally Day @ Castle Combe on the Saturday 21st or just Rally Day @ Castle Combe.

Deadline for Club entry s 30th August, so we need to get a wiggle on if we are attending in an official capacity.

This is a great event with probably the largest collection of Subaru, Evo, Escort and retro Rally cars you will ever see in the UK/Europe.
Combine that with an afternoon/evening enjoy Welsh roads and whats not to like.

Those wanting to enjoy Wales would be a Friday early start, aiming to get to River Seven around mid-day.
If it's just the Saturday we will arrange a rendezvous somewhere.

I do fancy a ride out, but would ideally be over a weekend rather than week days due to work - innint - and Wales floats me boat

Due to poor take up this event will not be attended by SES in an official capacity.
However, weather pending I may run down there early Friday morning to spend a few hours enjoying the South Wales roads and a stop over nearby before returning via castle combe.

If anyone wants to join in let me know, but it will be very last minute.

I will be going to combe on the saturday as it's always a good day out.
