Project Black/red bugeye

Well, had her since Feb, and done a few subtle mods. Monies dried up for her a while back when I had to get the clutch done while in Scotland...£730.00 ouch.

Bits I havent taken picture of

1.De-tango'd all round
2.Larger STI style scoop
3.Taken OEM radio out, normal size one in, with real subaru pocket.

Got some WRX seats, without runners though, had a mare getting some that fitted, in the end Japerformance parts came up trumps.

http://www.mortster.net/images/Scot/DSCF2616.JPG

Then did the old caliper tart up, Hammerite red for the Win.

http://www.mortster.net/images/DSCF2006.JPG

Then as some of you know, got the windows tinted at a very good price, and very good finish/quality too.

http://www.mortster.net/images/DSCF2004.JPG

And these turned up in the post today

http://www.mortster.net/images/Car1/...90602-2047.jpg

And currently lost out 3 times on fleebay for STI clocks, keep getting piped right at the last minute.!

Question... de-tangoed? What bit had been tangoed?

Mortster 06-06-2009 08:02 PM

Re: Project Black/red bugeye

The side indicators and the bits on the front of the wings that dont do anything.

Full Service
Cambelt Service
Uprated brake lines ( ready for larger disc's project )
Ninja2 cat back exhaust package
AfterBurner Filter
Red Mudflaps all round to continue the Black/Red theme.

Knackered now though, got up at 5 to get there for 8.30, only to discover there's trafic lights on the M25 ( yes Bloody trafic lights!! ) at the 2 tunnels at Potters bar, and its dark so cant take any photo's, will do on Thurday.

Re: Project Black/red bugeye

You can use hammerite but i think the two part caliper paints give a better finish

Re: Project Black/red bugeye

I used red hammerite, only one coat at the mo. Really needs rubbing down, to smooth it of, then another coat. Too hot at the mo though...

Re: Project Black/red bugeye

As you know from the brakes thread, been 'umming and arring' about what to do...untill today. Went to Jap perf parts, and bought these.....

http://www.mortster.net/images/Car1/WheelBrems.jpg

http://www.mortster.net/images/Car1/WheelsBrems1.jpg

Also got a Sti strutbrace and a JDM Sti front grill...

Wheels will be going on tomorrow, after being balanced ( with sticky weights this time ) and as a bonus, they all have Bridgestones on! Just need to find some centre caps.

As for the brakes, now I need to decide weather to put them as they are, or change the colour.

Put the wheels on today, Kwick fit, being the only tyre place open, balanced the fronts free for me. the took advantage of the Sun, even though it was ment to rain today and cleaned her.

Was a steal from a guy on Scooby net, £80.00 :)

The list of items needing fitting is getting long now though, and not long left till Japbash.

Re: Project Black/red bugeye

I have one of those.....get rid of the plastic air scoop from the front cross member when you fit it, it seems to make a difference to the ponies!

Mortster 13-09-2009 06:06 PM

Was brave today, chopped the badge section out of my JDM grill. Did it by heating a hacksaw blade up on the cooker, then it slowley sliced through. Lovely smell...not.

A couple of layers of paint and sorted. Going to try a match the mesh on the scoop, and the gap below.

Still on the quest for new lenses for the lights, pro-drive finally responded after 4 weeks with a big fat NO.

http://www.mortster.net/images/Debadgrill.JPG

Granby 13-09-2009 07:38 PM

Like the no badge grille (did mine a couple of years back), i got a cheap dremel type tool but i still had the lovely smell when cutting :D

Mortster 14-10-2009 08:18 PM

After months of 'umming and arring' finally made a choice. Lovely as they were in gold, just didnt fit in with my plan, so I sprayed them red

They look a little orange in the photo, but there bright red. Pleased with how they turned out. Would have liked slightly bigger 'brembo' stickers though, but this was about the 7th set to come through the post....so i have a few spare now...

http://www.mortster.net/images/Car1/DSCF2361.JPG

worzel 15-10-2009 09:17 AM

They look the nuts mate :yeah:

Mortster 02-11-2009 07:21 PM

Masive Masive thanks to CJ, who put my Brembos on today, then went onto pop my manifold on, with just a little cursing. :-D

Still on my quest for center caps though...

Crowman 02-11-2009 08:57 PM

Looks really nice now.
Brakes are wicked, very good move.
Big up CJ, good man.:10:

SpecB 03-11-2009 04:46 PM

Looking good, like the red Brembos, stops it looking like an STi clone! Where did you get the decals from as I'm planning to put the Brembos on the rear of mine but in Black.

Mortster 18-02-2010 05:43 PM

Fitted some STI struts/springs over last 3 days. Took its tool on me though, both rears tried to kill me. Pasenger side rachet slipped off the nut, square into my nose, craking it on the bridge. And the drivers side...

Bottom nut was stuck fast, used a old dumbell bar as a breaker bar, same thing happened, this time I fell over ( lol ) craked the bottom rib on the left side. :-(

Left it for a day, re-attacked it at CJ's. Managed to get it undone. Car now sits about 2 -3 cm lower all round, and feels so much firmer. Well please. If it stops raining I'll get some photos done.

Seats tomorrow, even though the hospital said take it easy....yeah right!

666subaru 18-02-2010 06:16 PM

Car is looking good Nick, and be careful of tools as they do bite.

SpecB 18-02-2010 06:18 PM

Looks great in the flesh - cheers for the lift too - anytime you need a hand give us a shout!

Don't forget to get the alignment done now

Mortster 15-04-2010 01:09 PM

Little update.

Now removed 2 more Cats, front and up. Just need a downpipe now.

Sounds much nicer now.

All done very kindly by Tone, who got me in at short notice, changed my Track Rod ends too.

With that done, and with me being to late for the Geo Day, had a full 4 wheel alignment and geo just done. Ouch...bit expensive but it was WAAAAYYYY out.

Camber, Caster and Toe on each corner, Total Front and Rear Toe, Steer ahead and Thrust angle all now set up for a STI, rather than a WRX as I swapped the struts/springs over.

A few changes over the next few days planned too, a new look for 2010. The the real engine mods are to begin
