Hopefully the pic will come through...I found a lump of slightly rusty metal in the area under my bonnet, on the driver's side near the windscreen wiper in the plastic bit that catches leaves etc. Anyone know what it is, or where it should be? Wasn't attached to anything, and everything seems to be fine...

Correct.
It slots into the caliper whilst you wind the piston back in. Normally on the rear of VAG cars (and probably others) but not Subaru.

Yep, and Ford and Peugeot rear calipers too (hence i bought myself a kit on ebay...)

I guess some mechanic just put it there and forgot!

Thanks all, still a bit of a mystery why it was in my car but at least I know it hasn't fallen off something vital!
