My new non Subaru toy. The first foray into the world of serious off roading.

Just need to retro fit power steering, then save a few pennies for a 200 or 300TDi conversion.

riiidaa 03-02-2014 05:29 PM

love it, when you taking me green laning?

scotty 03-02-2014 05:57 PM

Got yourself a good bit of kit there if you know anyone in the REME mate they can get you any part for that . The diff is a bit of getting to use to , when putting clutch to the floor and putting it into high or low gear and it doesn't work try lifting off the clutch peddle slightly as that can work and stay away from boggy ground when doing off road because as soon as it gets bogged in you're not getting out as I'm talking from first hand experience lol but it is a lot of fun and for some strange reason they are better on diesel than anything else on the road . Fuel tank gauge can also give you a doggy reading as well just thought I would mention it to you Nick . If there is anything else you would like to know about the landy just give me a ping mate .

Mortster 03-02-2014 06:06 PM

You've probably spotted its a Tithonus one Scotty. So its pretty much a Wolf, but without the TDi engine.

It was nice of the MOD to hand pick a few, spend ££££ on them, then decide to sell them on.

Danwrx 03-02-2014 06:38 PM

My brothers in the reme, but he useualy only works on helicopters, but when I see him I'll see if he can get hold of any bits for you, based in Yeovil though so don't really see him often. Nice car by the way

Yeah they done some upgrades on them like the hard top which is made of fiberglass and the roll cage on the outside . I can get you the NSN (NATO stock number ) for the paint which is NATO green which you cannot get in civvi street .

belliott 03-02-2014 07:52 PM

Very nice, might be worth keeping an eye out for a rotten Disco with a Tdi in it, can be picked up so cheap makes no sense to buy just the engine.

Are the service ones coming back from the camp Bastion yet? After the side wolf vents, by all accounts these were all ripped off and replaced with snorkles due to sand etc etc.

scotty 17-02-2014 05:32 PM

Don't know but I might speak to one of the vm's to see if they got any spare side vents and black towing pin when I'm back at work in March for you mate

Fitted old pressed style plates, side mounted aerial's, and PAS! It makes such a difference.

Just need to find a place for a bog standard stereo now.

scotty 02-03-2014 09:46 PM

You will be lucky Nick unless you make a bracket for the stereo and fit it in the glove box that's about the only place you could put it mate .

scotty 11-03-2014 06:36 PM

Can't get any parts from the LAD Department Nick , you could say I got told to Fxxk off but in a nice way .

simba 11-03-2014 07:36 PM

PAS you are so posh nick looking very nice though:doubleup:

Cheers Scotty

Got a few wolf bits coming already, updated locker boxes, and the side vents.

Finding a wheel mount is proving tricky at the mo though.

To make it a little more stable at high speed ( hahahaha ) well, 40mph, putting ARBs on. Not going to do any stupid off roading, so it will be find.

scotty 11-03-2014 09:36 PM

Try going down the motorway doing 70+ mph the steering becomes lighter and you are all over the place lol . You talking about the wheel mount for the spare Nick .

Mortster 11-03-2014 11:17 PM

Yes, the bracket that bolts to the cage, to hold the wheel on the left side.
Already found the extended wing mirror, just need to pay for it. :geek:

Took advantage of the good weather a few weekends ago, and used my HVLP spray set up. Thought I'd do the Landy first, as you cant really go wrong with Satin paint.

So its now got a fresh winter coat :-P

And grabbed the sun setting pic tonight, might be a while before get a chance for one of these.

Got my Merlin Report back yesterday, under the FOI act, so its free and more detailed than the Gaydon version.

Went into service 24.01.91, left MOD life 23.01.12 with only 65720 miles. So its had a very easy life, the primary reason why it was picked for the LEP programme ( Project Tithonus )

It had £19000 worth of repairs done ( the main bulk of this again is all the LEP stuff )

Spent all its life attached to 2620 RauxAF squadron based in Norfolk.

The LEP work was done on Stirling 15/02/08 to 30/02/08

Then was finally taken to Withams 15/02/12 ( MOD disposal company in Essex )

scotty 02-11-2014 01:20 PM

Good to have all the info about its former life and a good selling point in the future Nick . Looking very tidy now

Slider 02-11-2014 05:35 PM

Love the landy.
Mine is an ongoing project... 5 years on and still going!

Been doing some " winterising " as the MOD call it. Added a snow cover on the fresh air inlet. Sadly not a MOD one yet as they are £££

Rad Muff, proper Exmoor Trim MOD version.

Side demisters for the windows. I copied the plans for the MOD ones, so its nearly exactly the same. Some of the parts are no longer available and/or bloody expensive. So I used some ingenuity, and it cost about £15 in parts vs £200+

Made the arches black again too, how they should be.

More Wolf parts added.

Locker Doors, allow the jerry cans to be stood up, rather than laying flat.

Tool kit. Just because :-P

Still in the process of making a wading style snorkel with a mixture of wolf/snatch bits.

Thought I'd update this, been a year!

This happened just before Xmas!

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1454447354

Audi driver undertook me on a T-junction, I hit a Mx5 coming the other way, Audi fled the scene! The poor Mx5 was tottalled.

Damage to the landy didnt look bad, but it bent the front axle, those that know landys, thats almost impossible.

The axle and most of the steering was replaced. I got the bodywork parts and did them myself.

Insurance wanted to write it off..I had to explain what a land rover was...

Now looks like this. Finally finshed the deep water snorkle, so it looks like a RM winter/water version now.

As to why I didnt just get a real winter/water one? They were designed for beach landings, so spent alot of the service life in salty water....

http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...1&d=1454447354

scotty 02-02-2016 11:21 PM

Good thing about these beasts all parts just bolt off and bolt on and as for the axle that must have took some impact to do that as never bent one in 19 years of driving them .

Banstead Stig 03-02-2016 07:53 AM

Very nice Nick.

Does look like a fair old whack. Feel bad for the MX5!

scooby doo 03-02-2016 08:48 AM

Looking Good Nick. Keep it up.
