The SLaG gets a spruce up

While everyone was away at various meets. It was the best time to get the SLaG properly cleaned for the first time since new.

So with another keen pair of hands on board  we started what turned out to be a 10 and a half hour loving session on the Scooby :norty:

So, this is how it looked when we pulled up at the factory in Crowborough on Saturday morning. Not too dirty really at first glance, but in truth a LOT dirtier than it looks!!!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1287.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1291.jpg

First stage, get all of the stickers and badges off.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1288.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1289.jpg

followed by, a nice long soak in a blanket of snowfoam.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1297.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1298.jpg

followed by, a final glue and tree sap removal and a rinse, then it's time for a clay bar.
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1304.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1305.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1306.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1308.jpg

While I am finishing the clay bar and giving a final rinse, Martyn sets about the wheels....

..... before

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1311.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1313.jpg

..... after

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1316.jpg

I then set to the engine while the compound and polish is done. Sorry, got too busy at this point and didn't stop for photos of this bit :getmecoat: This is before the engine bay was spruced though...

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1317.jpg

After this came the Cherry Glaze and the wax while I buffed the exhaust within an inch of it's life. Followed up with a deep glass and black trim clean.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1319.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1321.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1322.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1325.jpg

It was then time to put back the new stickers.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1329.jpg

Finally, after a just a few hours of toil and then giving Martyns scoob a quick snowfoam and rinse, we grabbed a couple of quick shots before we had to run away for a night out.

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1330.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1331.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1334.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1336.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1337.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1338.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1340.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1342.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1343.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1344.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1349.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1350.jpg

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w...g/SG2_1354.jpg

Then we ran away for beers and a big old Chinese feast

 :chinese:  :chinese:  :chinese:  :chinese:  :chinese:

Scottie :) 16-05-2011 12:56 PM

Brilliant job and a brilliant car. one thing though have you considered the hydraulic bonnet hinges? espcially if your going to be showing the engine off

Scott

worzel 16-05-2011 01:05 PM

Cheers Scottie :ok:

Yes, bonnet hinges are now on the list. I have never cleaned the "Oily Bits" before so it was never high on my priority list. But now having done it once, my priority will be to get it tidied up and looking blingy under the hood

I am surprised just how enjoyable it all was. I had a brilliant day and a great laugh along the way

ralliart didz 16-05-2011 01:07 PM

Steve_PPP 16-05-2011 01:37 PM

engine bay came up brilliantly

Guy B 16-05-2011 01:45 PM

Nice one Worzel, looks very clean mate :ok:

worzel 16-05-2011 01:48 PM

Cheers Fellas :ok:

SUBARMAN 16-05-2011 03:26 PM

Cracking job there Chaps!

That engine bay is a treat!!!

SLaG looks sexy - love the small SES plate!!

:SMBLU:

worzel 16-05-2011 03:48 PM

Cheers Keith. :ok:

The problem with going FMIC is you really want to take the front number plate off.

But it looked awful without anything on it. So having the sticky plate on the bonnet it was just a case of creating something to fit over the old plate position. It's just some 3mm thick Aluminium, but I think it does the job pretty well

jura11 16-05-2011 04:00 PM

Wow nice effort, really looking like new car:10:

Jura

stiggy 16-05-2011 04:29 PM

Nice job guys, came up really well...

Looking good for the ring :-)

majorscooby 16-05-2011 08:47 PM

Very nice job indeed, i hope it was driven home carfully and tucked away.

Whos the little yobo trying to nick martyns scooby

BIG"E" 16-05-2011 09:15 PM

Looking good :doubleup::10:

Trouble is,

keeping it like it is now.

Bolesroor 16-05-2011 09:16 PM

Lovely job guys:doubleup:

Great looking car Mr Worzel sir, do prefer the look with scoop back on imho

worzel 16-05-2011 09:27 PM

Cheers all for the kind comments :ok:

Rich, the yob nicking the Martyns car is a local villain, Robbin Hoody. The scoobs the daily driver again now, so not much chance of going under wraps. :sadno:

Ian, tell me about it. Like I said earlier though, I actually really enjoyed doing it, so it's given me a taste for it.

Bolesroor, funnily enough, I got the replacement bonnet grill back from RCM today. And I really think I don't want to put it back on. I like it with the scoop back on there too. There may be a Carbon Bonnet Grill in the for sale section very soon

Tomma 16-05-2011 09:28 PM

definately worth the time and effort, engine bay looks spot on!

Scooby_Greg 16-05-2011 09:39 PM

Looking great Worzel - do you offer out your detailing services??

Nige 16-05-2011 10:47 PM

Like the car love the Badgeing. Is that a proper 3d Ring badge i see there? :yeah:

Crowman 16-05-2011 10:57 PM

Pics look great mate.
Was a fun day ,and very rewarding to see all the hard work was worth it.

Was good to see how all the new products worked.

hey, i reckon the old Autoglym plan worked too:mrgreen:

You sold the ST then?

SpecB 17-05-2011 06:45 AM

Looking good! - if you just snowfoam regularly you'll find it really easy to keep clean - did you glaze with a DA or rotary?

If you could bring the RCM grille to a meet sometime I''d like to see if it's possible to fit one to my Bug, nobody makes them for the bugs :'(

worzel 17-05-2011 08:59 AM

Cheers again lads :ok:

Nige, yes, that's the spare 3D badge I bought at the Ring last year. I like the badgeing now too, thats the advantage of removing it completely, putting it back exactly how you want it :ok:

Martyn, I reckon they all believe we used Autoglym too  In fairness we did use the tar remover and the metal polish for the exhaust

Steve, no, got rid of the Golf, Laura is now driving the ST. It was far too much to keep 3 cars going really. Insurance, tax, fuel, servicing etc was just costing far too much.

Nick, yes mate, no problem, I will bring along somewhere for you to have a look at.

Greg............................. maybe.............................

Lucky 17-05-2011 10:38 AM

Looks fantastic Steve. Love the destickered look. Good job matey :ok::polish:

worzel 17-05-2011 10:49 AM

Cheers Steve :ok:

RobEvo5 17-05-2011 12:45 PM

Amazing how a car can brush up with just a little/lot of TLC. Nice job, and 2nd the notion of keeping the scoop on. I think it looks better/right and more aggresive.

worzel 17-05-2011 12:53 PM

Cheers Rob :ok:

It's only after doing something like this that I realised just how "average" it looked before. One full day like that, followed by regular love sesh's should keep it looking better.

Yep, I agree about the scoop. I can't see me putting the grill back on now.

simba 17-05-2011 01:30 PM

Awsome looking clean motor now mate !! fantastic work loovin the badges too

:10:

Matt23 17-05-2011 03:43 PM

WOW. That looks the nuts mate. Fancy doing mine. For a price of course.

Looks stunning mate, loving the new badge too, did you only use autoglym products? Wheels came up really good too, did you use any sealent on them? Only ask as your going to the ring soon so your wheels are gonna take abit of a hammering brake dust wise.

worzel 17-05-2011 06:45 PM

Cheers Andy:ok:

We didn't use Atoglym apart from tar remover for some tree sap removal at the start of the day and metal polish for the back box. That was all a bit of a jest.

Wheels were sealed mate, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem.

Hongkongfooi 17-05-2011 08:13 PM

Looking shweet steve:more:

Bolesroor 17-05-2011 08:58 PM

So come clean then (excuse the pun) like every great detailer, what products did you use then? Write it down, I wont tell anyone :paranoid:

Crowman 17-05-2011 10:44 PM

Flippin heck, what didnt we use;-)

Nige 17-05-2011 11:19 PM

Keep the CF bonnet grill for when you come to your senses. Different look when you get board :drive:

SpecB 18-05-2011 07:08 AM

Really need to get mine back to it's best - after the last proper clean it's now got water marks all over it from a thunderstorm really haven't got time to do it all again!

Chunk 18-05-2011 09:21 AM

Snap mate :deadhorse: as soon as that drizzle arrived here this morning. Although it's good watching it running mainly straight off the car

Oh well, guess what I'll be doing again this weekend :polish:

Know what you mean with using it as a daily again. I was seriously toying with getting something to use for work, but when you add it all up, its mad running two for me and the mrs car. Also, the car runs better being used daily anyway.
