Cheers all. Can't wait to get the new alloys on - Think they will transform it, and fill out those arches nicely.

Looking good mate, nice motor

Re: My new STI8

Wheels fitted today - I like lots, but probably wished I have gone with silver, but that said I think it gives it a more aggresive look and goes well with front splitter etc.

Re: My new STI8

looks better.
I guess it's sitting so high as just come off axle stands.
if not get some eibach springs.

Crowman 18-11-2008 05:45 PM

Re: My new STI8

Looks nice Rob
If thats the ride hight then it sure needs some springs though

RobEvo5 18-11-2008 06:38 PM

Re: My new STI8

Cheers

I think it will settle down a bit more, but the ride is stock and not prodrive springs. I didn't really want to lower the car, but if it don't settle down, then its another project for another day. But will save that for when the weather gets warmer. Or I might put them on my crimbo list and fit them over my xmas break ;)

Its defo an improvment for me, and the offset works well. And if nothing else I now have a brand new set of falken 452's and mint alloys.

Nige 18-11-2008 08:01 PM

Re: My new STI8

Looking nice mate. What sort of offset are the wheels? :drive:

BIG"E" 18-11-2008 08:36 PM

Re: My new STI8

Looking good Rob,

I think it would look better slightly lower,
but then you would have be more careful of the splitter, especially round here.

Perhaps we can see the scoob at the meeting on Sunday. :yeah:

RobEvo5 18-11-2008 09:34 PM

Re: My new STI8

Splitter only just clears the lip on my drive as is so a little loathed to lower it - It might well be a comprise between the ideal look and practicality. Had many a car in the past that was too low, and it gets damned annoying after a while. My RX7 was a nightmare on UK/Hastings roads.

Should be Coming Sunday all going well. :yeah:

Couple more pics with some better light. Car has settled down a bit more now, although if it were not for the pracitcal contraints, could still do with dropping and inch or so.

RobEvo5 08-12-2008 10:35 PM

Re: My new STI8

lol  If the missus didn't just get the zafira GSI back I would have been more than happy to keep the STI, but now its not the family main car, It changed the dynamics of what I need. So basically my car can be anything, and something that makes be feel a little special when driving (Perhaps a little early mid life crisis thing going on with me at the moment)

Love scoobs and always will as they do everything they say on the tin and superb value for money. Its Just that I've been there done that and definately worn the 'T'... several times, and even with the VF35 I am starting to find the turbo thing a little tiring these days. Turbo cars even with quick spooling turbo's are very much all or nothing driving.

As with the future next car. Just went out tonight and picked up myself a v.tidy little 306 GTI-6 lowered as a stop gap. Loved the little XSI I had, and this has another 40 horses, 6 speed gearbox, better suspension. Basically no turbo lag, handles like a scoob with better feedback than a scoob, small agile and loves to rev. Great cars and intend for this to double up as a track car as well as a daily hack. 167 horses in a small light car that handles like its on rails = fun and a car you can drive on the limits without doing breakkneck speeds.

But In March - I want and will likely get a E46 M3 cab with all the toys. Either that a TVR Tamora with a good warranty but who knows. Could even be tempted to keep the gti-6 and get a westfield, elise/exige

Re: My new STI8

Cheers Guys - Yep buyer is local ish. He has popped his head in here and more over on Sussex a few times. But its up to him if ho wants to come forward. Top bloke, but does have a few private issues that are probably taking priority over cars at the moment.

I want a ragtop when the time comes. But hope the E46's are not like the E36 ragtop I had.

I found the E36 M3 saloon or coupe to be very solid and well screwed together if not a little dated by todays standards, but found the E36 ragtop really rattling, squeaky, and could feel the car twisting.

Is yours a SMG ?, really tempted with the SMG this time as well. But never driven one ot tired one.

worzel 11-12-2008 12:40 PM

Re: My new STI8

You will have to ignore my complete lack of Knowledge here rob

SMG? I no understandee

Hang on........... can you hear the cogs grinding? I'll take a wild stab in the dark here and go for..... Sequential Manual Gearbox? Or something similar? If so, then yes! Mixture of flappy paddles on the steering wheel, sequential shift on the gearstick or straight auto.

Matey, you are more than welcome to take it for a blast if you want.

RobEvo5 11-12-2008 04:30 PM

Re: My new STI8

lol mate - Yeah thats the fella, except they do it without the flappy pedals on the steering wheel which is what I will be considering.

Forgive me for stating the obvious but for the benefit of anyone else who might be remotely interested  Basically a gearstick you push back or forward to go up and down gears or full auto for when you feel lazzy or stuck in traffic. So bit of a half way house thing over a manual.

The SMG ;) its supposed to be very good on the E46 and reacts within milliseconds of asking it to change gears which is alleged to give you the same driver involement as a manual without all that faffing around with a heavy clutch pedal. Could be argued a step forward in technology, or just a step closer to pipe and slippers.!

When the time comes if not before would probably take you up on that offer cheers mate.

worzel 11-12-2008 05:12 PM

Re: My new STI8

It is very good and very quick, especially in "Sports mode". You can set the gear change time as well, so if you want it really smooth set it to one bar and really quick you set it on 5 bars. And then anything in between. Using the sequential stick does certainlt keep you feeling invoved in the drive too.

The ONLY downside is when in traffic, the change down from 2nd to 1st can take it's time, which can leave you a bit grasping for a gear but apart from that it really is good.

The paddles are great on motorways.

No problem matey, whenever you fancy taking it for a spin just give me a shout.
