Wheel nuts and studs
 

Just had car serviced and been told that one of my wheels can't be removed as the wheel stud is pitted and may be jamming the wheel nut stopping them from removing it as part of the service, brake fluid change. So question is do I have them try to remove the wheel regardless and hope for the best or get them to do the first bit and then replace and wheel studs and nuts as the car is now 10 years old and all things wear out eventually. The work is being carried out by a dealer and an airgun has been used so far but they don't won't to use heat due to possible damage to wheel and caliper paint. So any advice is welcome or has anyone else come across this problem before.

Id would def have them all replaced -

On my old Mondeo the locking wheel nut threaded out, and so a blanking tool was used to cut into the nut, and then unlock it. Took a lot of blanking tools to finally get a purchase on it though. Heat was the next option for me, but thankfully didn't come to that.

sounds like its potentially cross threaded, tell them they will get far more purchase with an old fashioned "breaker bar" and socket and simply wind it off................

doesn't really matter i the stud is fubarred during this as you simply replace, no offence but if they cant use basic common sense to get a wheel off then should they be let loose to do other jobs??

Guess they're just trying to cover their arses by warning you of the risk before they go ahead and do it. As Alyn says though, would be better to do it with a good quality 6 point impact socket and a bar rather than a gun.
Are they the original wheel nuts or aftermarket ones and has anyone else had that nut off since they last touched it?
