Anyone fancy a trip north of the Border?

Just seen this on (cough) Countryfile.

http://www.northcoast500.com/home.aspx#popup1

500 miles of the Scottish Coast with what looked like some great roads and some spectacular Scenery.

Damn missed it. I remembered a programme advertise last week that they were covering a new route in Scotland, and I said to Oliver I bet it's the NC500.
But then forgot what programme it was.

Cheers for the reminder............

I was thinking the same thing, as saw it in EVO Mag ECOTY 2015.
Start in Inverness then head for Applecross.
I need to find out what sort of accommodation cover there is, if the full route is done.

Wonder if my car would fancy a trip back to its roots? Have always wanted to head to the north of the U.K. to admire the scenery.

The SIDC "Highland Fling" goes up that way.

Not sure if that's running in 2016.

Yep, it is as far as I'm aware, unless that has changed in the last couple of months.

There was a bit of a brouhaha I think, but it's still going. Don on Surrey Scoobies is involved.

And what's the parking like...?

Red Baron 10-12-2015 09:50 AM

To be honest I'd be more than happy to do campsites all the way round, would keep costs down and just keep a crate of beer in the boot for evenings.

Sounds like a plan as the motion loation aint cheap after perth lol

scotty 10-12-2015 12:39 PM

This would be the most suited overnight stay from a long drive just off the M9 which leads to the north also theres the pirnhall next door which serves good food and all types of drinks and is a 10 min drive from my house

It's quite scary that I've travelled around Europe but never been further North than the Lake District, really should make the effort to see more of the UK.

Following on from our little chat last night where we spoke about 1.5 days to get up to Inverness. This would form the 0.5 day and is based on leaving the Premier Inn at Perth and then heading up the Old Military Road : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/PH...2d57.33041!3e0

More on the Old Military Road here :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkAT82-R0S8

If your in any doubt about this road, just grab the little orange google midget and drop him anywhere along the bit in the National Park

Scott.T 20-12-2015 07:50 PM

The NC500 is suggested to be a 5-Day trip.
Because this will be a bit long for us southerners. The Alternative SES trip could be the NC324 :

Is anyone seriously interested in taking a trip up north.
If so I wil start do do some serious leg work to find routes and accommodation.

The initial plan would be
Day 1 : Drive to Perth : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Ha...d56.394994!3e0
Night 1 - Night in Premier Inn
Day 2 : Perth to Applecross
Night 2 - Applecross B&B
Day 3 : Drive to Inverness (the long way) : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Ap...d57.477773!3e0
Night 3 - Inverness B&B
Day 4 : Drive South
Night 4 - B&B TBD
Day 5 : Drive home via Butter Tubs Pass (or similar)

Rdlangy1 06-01-2016 09:30 PM

Depending when ur thinking of I'm game :ok:

scotty 06-01-2016 10:49 PM

You know i be there i can meet you all at perth in the morning if this goes ahead .

555_Si 07-01-2016 08:03 AM

yeah would be interested, i could do the run to Perth in my sleep i think now.

Make sure you have speed cameras in your sat nav, the Scot's do like to put them in odd places.

Red Baron 07-01-2016 08:35 AM

Can't commit to anything I'm afraid.

NL03Scooby 07-01-2016 12:20 PM
