Winter tyres

I have just been driving in snow & ice with winter tyres and amazed at the difference they made. Apparently good for conditions upto 7C. Admittedly you still have to be sensible though! I can't seem to find any to fit the prodrive 18" speedlines - does anyone know of anywhere that supplies them and in which brand? I know we only get about a month with the weather like this in the UK - unless it was like last year - but if it keeps me on the road and safer I'd like to get some!!

Hi Greg :)

I've often wondered about trying a set on my spare 17"s (especially after last winter!) but didn't bother in the end (mainly cost). Had a quick look online and found these:

Not that many brands seem to come in 225/40/18s for some reason ;) and those that do seem to be expensive (£100+ per corner) but those seem a bargain. Although i've no idea how good they are as a brand.....

I have used tyremen and they are good.

The Nokian WR-G2 Get some very good reviews.

A few of the Legacy chaps use them and rate them very highly, they are also available in an 18:doubleup:

225/45R18 95 V XL
225/40R18 92 V XL
235/50R18 101 V XL
235/40R18 95 V XL
245/50R18 100 V Run Flat
245/50R18 104 V XL
245/45R18 100 V XL
245/40R18 97 V XL
275/45R18 107 V XL

Not sure the best place to get them but most stockists would be able to order in I would imagine?

Other option if you can is to run a second set of alloys with a small rim size, better prices available:nod:

Thanks for the advice- its really appreciated. I was struggling to find any. I may dig out my 17's for the winter and get some on those as they do seem cheaper. Ian - there's some good deals on there!

If you get winter tyres plus the scoobs 4wd....you will be invincible in the snow....just everyone else to avoid though!

The Gimp 25-11-2010 09:56 PM

Winter tyres went on yesterday - amazed at the difference it made. Handles and stops significantly better. Just the other idiots you have to watch out for!

Steve_PPP 02-12-2010 06:47 PM

Nice one Greg.

Saw several cars in Burgess Hill today using chains, getting up and down the hills no problem. Shows how bad the weathers been lol

Ian, Goodyear Eagle Vectors on my old 17's. I reckon I only have a couple of days before it all melts again....... Amazed though - had major trouble getting to the tyre place and drive back was so easy!

Hongkongfooi 20-12-2010 02:26 PM

After this years weather I'm definitely getting a set of winter wheels and tyres next year
