Upgrade at the rear

The Forester developed an occasional knock/graunch noise from its back end.

Upon inspection, I discovered this... blurry photo, it's the ARB mount if you can't tell.

It is, I now know, a common problem with SG Foresters, especially with any form of uprated ARB. Take note Ron, as I'm not sure whether Rich upgraded the mounts or not on the he****!

This is my only car, so having to keep driving the car meant by the time I got to Dan at Surrey Subaru Specialists yesterday, I'd double broken it!

Note the lack of fixing points on the mount!

Anyway, by the time I'd made a couple of work calls, these little puppies were on.

So I can drive the car properly again now! Don't see them snapping in a hurry!

Very pleased to have confidence to turn instead of having to nurse the car everywhere.

As always, Dan did a top job. Particularly impressed that, in spite of a seized/knackered bolt, he managed to do the job quicker than quoted, so my wallet was all the happier for that!

All in all a happy Stig. :D

I'd been seriously considering selling up, but I didn't hesitate to upgrade, which I reckon shows this car still has my affection! :D

Didn't realise that was a common problem. Is that because they are taller than an impreza and more lean angles?

Banstead Stig 24-05-2014 05:31 PM

That and they're made out of peanut brittle!

There is a better OEM version, which made its way onto some cars and acknowledged the others were rubbish, but even those are prone to failing. Funnily enough, I had one of each as a previous one had failed before I bought the car.

Thanks for the heads up Gareth:thanx:

all sorted now:ok: looks like it was the OE mounts but they did look to be ok, did ask at RCM with regards to changing them but they seemed to think the OE ones were up to the job? maybe it had the stronger ones one?

anyway, taking on board your knowledge of all things FSTi, decided to go for some uprated mounts, although the shiney side of me wanted the alloy ones over the metal so went for those insted:ok:

Nice one. :)

It may well have had the stronger ones, but even those have been known to go! I've been told it's a badge of honour for Forester owners... popping the ARB "cherry".

You won't have to worry about that now. :ok:

You should see the legacy rear mount! Totally inadequate and the only reason I've not done the ARB as getting uprated ones is a total pain in the UK!
