Looking for a cheapish car for motorsport
Doing the Brands Hatch BTCC run the other week made me realise how much I miss the burble, and doing motorsport events. The family love the Legacy and it's not the greatest prospect for speed work so I've been thinking about getting a replacement for the old blob wagon that I can drive to events and use for hillclimbs, sprints etc.
I've not discussed with SWMBO lately and it might be a hard sell finance wise, but I could probably get away with spending a few grand on something just for motorsport use. Was looking at MX-5 or RX-8 maybe, anyone with experience of those (or know of any good ones for sale)? Any alternatives considered, providing they give good smiles per mile! |
Mx5 are good and cheap. Plenty of parts out there and can go really far with them.
Rx8 from what I've heard it's best to stay away. Clio 172/182 again very tried and tested with good results |
French fwd is very good if just for a track car. The 106 and 306 gti are great fun.
|
as above we are stocking / supplying more and more parts for Renault Clio / Megane cars being sued for track and light competition work and they make a pretty good budget car out of the box
the MX5 is also a fun little car with decent tyres, etc........ |
Got a clio 182 for track and once you strip all the weight off they really do well. Only trouble is the gearboxes can be a bit of a weak point. But getting replacements is easy.

I have a very good Audi TT 225 for sale at £2k

Smiles for pound it has to be Mx5

EP3 Type R

Thanks for all the good suggestions guys. Have a few things to think about (and still need to have the conversation with SWMBO!)

Hi all, after narrowly missing out on a supercharged classic Mini and a Pug 106 Rallye, looks like I'm getting a Mk1 MX-5 :CUP:
