Just off to pick up the car!

Just about to head off to pick the car up from GRD, should be an interesting drive back!

worzel 12-01-2010 01:05 PM

Bet you can't wait mate :norty:

MrX??? 12-01-2010 01:22 PM

Hope its all your expecting:yeah:

Look forward to reading the post about the drive home:yeah:

SpecB 12-01-2010 05:50 PM

That was an interesting drive back I have to say! Initially I didn't think it felt like 50lbft and 70BHP more due to the more progressive spool and power delivery but once on a road that I could bury the right foot on my god did it pull and keep on pulling!
Both Pat and Charlie commented on how smooth the power delivery was and they were right! Boost on the dyno was set at 1.3Bar but easily hit 1.5 on the road, the boost curve is quite flat with boost coming in quite late in the range, Pat thinks this is mostly diue to having too large a bore up-pipe on the car so I guess it's time for ported headers (Tone?) and a new up-pipe for which I'll probably go to Harvey.

Nice one Nick, excellent result:doubleup::10:

Steve_PPP 12-01-2010 06:21 PM

very nice mate!

SpecB 12-01-2010 06:23 PM

Turbo is a bit laggy for my liking so will have to learn to drive the car higher up the revs, but should improve with up-pipe and headers.

mylilscooby 12-01-2010 06:51 PM

what year is your one mate i got a uprated up pipe that i was gonna use but cant be bothered to piss around fitting it

midlife2 12-01-2010 07:24 PM

I have a harvy up-pipe that could be for sale

Chunk 12-01-2010 07:28 PM

Oooooh, i like your curves

Nige 12-01-2010 07:39 PM

What have you had done mate?:-)

SpecB 12-01-2010 07:41 PM

Car already had 3" Milltek with Sports Cat, K & N filter, Walbro 225 Fuel Pump and Sti TMIC and was running at 270 - GRD fitted an APS Sr40 Turbo and STI Pinks then a re-map by Pat Herborn.

Chunk 12-01-2010 07:45 PM

Sounds good mate

Main question is.....

Whats next?

Lucky 12-01-2010 07:59 PM

Great figures :10:. Its just like having a new car.

You will get used to it but your fuel consumption will be better when you don't boot it! Mine averages on motorway/bimbling about to up to 30mpg:oldman:

Crowman 12-01-2010 09:28 PM

Top job Nick.
Will be well suited to the autobaans:yeah:

worzel 13-01-2010 08:40 AM

Good job that man! Cracking figures mate. :five:

Anger 13-01-2010 01:20 PM

My RA made 369bhp with the same turbo on at 1.5bar... So has plenty more to give

C. J. 13-01-2010 06:43 PM

Good figures but that is laggy as hell .thought my 20g was laggy !

Did try my hardest to stop him !

SpecB 13-01-2010 09:15 PM

I actually quite like it, suits my driving style (lazy) and is already noticibly improving my fuel economy! All of C.J's advice was spot on thanks for that but don't ask me why but my first mod was an APS dual port and for some reason I've always wanted one of these!
Next up after the 6 speed will be a trip to Plymouth for a 2.1 stroker probably on a CDB, mostly likely with my heads to start with then I'll look at an AVCS conversion (sti 8) with simtek. Hopefully I should have a spare car in the next few months so will be able to take mine off the road for longer periods of work.

C. J. 13-01-2010 09:21 PM

As long as your happy

SpecB 24-01-2010 03:54 PM

Really starting to get used to this now and enjoying the power delivery, given the turbos specs the boost is a little conservative at 1.3 probably good for the engine though!

Just ordered a set of Harvey Smith version 3 ported headers with matched Up-pipe and will be booking the car in for fitting a JGM remap and a new clutch at Subaru4U over half term.

C. J. 24-01-2010 05:27 PM

Have a word with broadside brenda as his not far from you , stig this has said his very good on price , service & would not go anyware else now .

SpecB 24-01-2010 06:35 PM

Cheers C.J. I'll give him a shout only probelm is I really want the car RR mapped and can do it in one hit at Subaru4U. Otherwise I guess it's fitting with Broadside then a trip to Surrey Rolling Road - which tbh isn't that much of an issue assuming I can get the RR time, JGM and Broadside all booked up at the right times.

C. J. 24-01-2010 06:40 PM

Headers wont screw the map that much , thought pat mapped it !

SpecB 24-01-2010 07:10 PM

Pat did the last Map but Simon is easier to get hold of down here especially at Subaru4U if I use them, he's also cheaper!

SpecB 25-01-2010 06:44 PM

OK looking forwards to more upgrades now, 15th Feb for a new clutch - mines toast! and then 19th for a JGM remap on the Harvey Ported and wrapped headers and up-pipe!

may see you there :ninja:

SpecB 25-01-2010 08:16 PM

Just waiting to see what time Simon wants me at Surrey - might have a couple of other tweaks on the car by then as I have the week off and an itchy PayPal/eBay finger!

C. J. 25-01-2010 08:33 PM

Have a list of things doing this week in evenings and saturday .
Taken 32 "of intercooler pipe work out today , should spool a bit quicker !

SpecB 25-01-2010 08:38 PM

Wouldn't be suprised if that makes a difference! I'm fitting a set of Perrin fuel rails to get rid of the fuel leak I've developed in the cold! I may then go for a tumbler delete as I'm getting it mapped anyway!

C. J. 25-01-2010 08:43 PM

Yep doing billet fuel rails and parallel fuel rail & 10mm inlet manifold raisers

SpecB 26-01-2010 07:00 AM

You still got that set of Tumblers you were talking about? Be useful if I could grab those and port them ready to fit rather than have the manifold off while I port mine?

SpecB 26-01-2010 05:27 PM

Look what arrived today!

Sold...

SpecB 26-01-2010 07:24 PM

Looks like I'm porting mine then! Or I'll pick up a cheap set on eBay. The Perrin fuel rails should arrive tomorrow, thought I'd do the induction pipe and the tumbler delete while I had the manifold off.

:norty:

Hmmmmmm. Two problems, can't really afford the £600 and would they be delivered in time? However the JDM tumbler deletes look a possibility! All depends on delivery times and if I win the eBay auction.

SpecB 30-01-2010 07:21 PM

The collection of parts is growing.......
http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/o...m/DSC_0505.jpg

And I have a complete Manifold on the way ready for the TGV delete and painting....

SpecB 12-02-2010 08:26 PM

Stage 1 complete!

Not quite the whole length, looks like a reasonable amount of work at the joints and there is a lot of work in the final collector - plus the up-pipe is matched to the pipes and turbo (Harvey has 5 different up-pipes on offer now!).

Got a bit carried away this evening so time for stage 2!

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/o...m/DSC_0557.jpg

Just to add it's not actually sparkely even though it looks it on here!

Steve_PPP 12-02-2010 11:02 PM

blimey that didn't take long!

SpecB 12-02-2010 11:24 PM

Just wondering if I should paint the TGV's and if I do use the crinkle or satin VHT.

SpecB 13-02-2010 10:05 AM

Just about to finish of the tumblers, Think I'm going for plain satin VHT paint as they have a smooth finish. Was woken up by the postman though with a delivery.... all the parts are in place now!
