Wax...

OK - time to open up the can of worms!

I know its all down to personal preference, and ofcourse budgets - but just wondered what wax people are using on their scoobs?

Im coming to the end of my Chemical Guys "Pete's 53" and although impressed with its ease of use and beading, can't say it really gave any depth to the colour.

Am tempted to try Chemical Guys "Lava" or maybe Dodo Juice "Blue Velvet".

On my old cars I went with Meguairs Liquid gold, and its OK, but find it makes the blue scoob go rather dark and dull... (IMO)

So - at risk of getting :deadhorse: - what do people use?

Cheers

Ryan :ok:

Poorboys Natty Paste wax, I know it smells of coconut and goes on easy, thats about as much as I can tell you and it's the only one I've ever bought or used so got nothing to compare it with. Only bought it because I stumbled across the Poorboys stand at Goodwood last year and it was on offer. Also use their black hole glaze smells of bubblegum, is designed for dark cars and is a piece of piss to use.

Natty Blue punches well above its weight in my opinion. Cheap and easy to use with good results.

I use it on top of Finnish Kare 1000p sealant and that combo seems to work a treat.

Recent pic of Mrs Stig's Impreza by way of example...

Good results that :ok:

Combination of Werkstat Acryilic Jett and Swissvax Shield... Gives a really long lasting protection and really brings out the flakes in metallics.

Natty blue as stig said or for darker colours black fire products are excellent and really easy to use. They don't go powdery when dry and leave a very deep shine.

That's using Blackfire gloss enhancing polish (£18 from polished bliss) with Blackfire All paint protection (£32 from polished bliss) over the top. May seem a bit expensive but they last ages and offer very good levels of protection against bird crap and water marks. You will also get far better results by clay barring the car first.

Rdlangy1 17-04-2015 01:22 PM

Appreciate the info :ok: - only reason I was looking at chemical guys lava was because its meant for bright coloured cars like the rally blue etc but at the costs I've mentioned - I might give those a go :ok:

Ginola 17-04-2015 02:22 PM

I have been using dodo juice blue velvet pro edition, its really nice stuff, a hardwax that lasts for ages and its the correct colour too! gives a super wet look when finished, polish the car first with some non abrasive poorboys cleaner polish/wax.

Cheers Dave :ok: as always guys lots of good advice :-)
Once the car has had all its bits fitted next Sat (25th) I think I'm gonna treat it to some new waxes :ok:

Have a look further down the thread and you can see some example threads from us using various polishes/wax combinations and the pics attached...

Eg here is an old thread with some phone snaps using the dodojuice stuff.. http://southeastscoobies.co.uk/vbull...ad.php?t=18942

and I think further down I have some SLR pics using nattys paste that was mentioned above,

If I'm honest the best thing you can do is get a few sample size wax's from somewhere like Cleanyourcar.com and try a few out, the cost soon ramps up with expensive waxes, but a sample size one cost £5 or so and is easily enough for 2x full car applications ;)

Rdlangy1 17-04-2015 07:20 PM

Appreciate that Dave - thanks buddy :ok:

I just buy what I like the look/sound of from reviews on www.cleanyourcar.co.uk

If it works for me I buy it again, if it doesn't I pick something else next time.
I've normally go a few variations on the go, as can be seen in the other thread : http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ad.php?t=19950

A good Clay and Cleanse first, if it's not had one or been a while since the last, is a defo 1st step.
My Audi is only 2.5 years old but the difference in paint finish/feel now after I have worked on it (for a touch longer then the Audi Main Dealer did) is amazing.
I only used the DA on the bonnet. The rest was Clay, Cleanse, White Diamond and HD07 and a touch of elbow grease.

I'm not convinced about all the talk of 'beeding'.
The water on my various vehicles over the years doesn't get a chance to beed, it just flows off onto the floor.

Our Impreza was doing that last weekend when it rained, as I had just given it a thorough going over.

That said, there was still beading... I've never yet achieved a finish where no water gets caught up!

Rdlangy1 20-04-2015 12:34 PM

I don't think you can beat a beaded car look after its rained :polish::polish:

Rdlangy1 05-05-2015 03:07 PM

ordered a tester pot of Dodo Juice Blue Velvet - anyone know where I can get a tester pot of Nattys Blue? Can't seem to find one anywhere...

Ginola 05-05-2015 11:19 PM

You ordered the pro version dude?

Rdlangy1 06-05-2015 05:13 AM

Hi Dave - no it's the normal one - but was £6 for tester pot, foam applicator, and microfibres so wasn't bad...

I see the pro version has more carnuba - will look for tester pots of this also :ok:

Don't think there is a tester pot... a 'proper' pot is only £10-15 from memory.

If I was nearer to you I'd pop mine round do you could try it out.

Rdlangy1 06-05-2015 06:43 AM

Thanks mate - yeah I appreciate they aren't expensive - just fancied a few testers to do a comparison along the spoiler to everyone could see each wax and how it effects the paintwork :ok:

Ill get a few anyway and post up the pics after the weekend...

Rdlangy1 07-05-2015 06:01 PM

Ok ordered my Nattys blue, also ordered some poor boys black hole glaze, and have my tester pot of dodo juice blue velvet... Busy weekend for me :ok:

Assuming after a good DA I'll use the glaze first then top with the wax - will do comparison pics between the to do people can see - mite do a 4 wax showdown along the spoiler with my Petes 53, blue velvet, Nattys blue, and meguairs ultimate gold wax...

Banstead Stig 07-05-2015 09:10 PM

That'll be quite interesting to see.

Rdlangy1 07-05-2015 09:16 PM

opened my tester pot of Blue Velvet when got home - mmmmmmmmm smells good! ha ha must not eat it......must not eat it...........NO ! stop ! No..........Its ok - I restrained pmsl !!!! :ok: ha ha ha ha ha

Ryan

Ginola 07-05-2015 09:17 PM

don't leave out a good fine polish with the DA! :p

I really like the Megs Ultimate carnauba wax as well, you can wax the hole car in one hit with the DA with that stuff, did the BM with it took like 5mins to wax the hole car! and still great results.. took a bit longer to buff it all off, its still easy off though.

Rdlangy1 08-05-2015 07:13 AM

Def wont forget the fine polish - I start with chemical guys V34, and work up to their V38 fine... :ok:
