As a newbie :-D am in need of some advice, I dont know if this is where I should post but here goes.
I have a blob WRX and I'm looking to increase the power but not looking for massive gains, is the following the right way to go? Decat/sports cat down pipe (already have catless from the down pipe) Fuel pump Injectors Sti tmic High flow panel filter 3 port solenoid Remap Any input or point in the right direction would be much appreciated many thanks everyone :ok: |
Sorry if there's a post about this already
Might aswell replace the turbo with a vf34 or vf35 .
As already said replace the turbo you can get a vf35 for around £350 then with those mods should see around 330 bhp . With the standard turbo you will be looking at around 280-290
Cheers guys thanks for reply and advice :thanx: :ok:
Just don't forget that if you're running STI power then you really need STI brakes to go with it.
Think you might want to replace manifold up pipe, not sure as these may have a cat in them as well, hopefully someone else can confirm/deny.
I’d do turbo as well vf34 is best but harder/mire expensive to come by or a vf35, i had a vf43 but these can be a bit laggy. |

I’d put brembos on the front to get rid of sticky problematic 4 pots anyway, but this can be a bit more expense as you need disc, pads, calipers and probaly new wheels as the brembos don’t fit under wrx ones. |
You can get a hybrid td04 that will make 280/300hp and only loses 400 odd rpm of spool from the standard td04!
Depends on what your after, Been down this road many times now.
The td04 is a good road turbo and spools up very low but has the tendency to tail off . Andy forest used to hybrid them making around 300-315hp and pull till redline. The larger vf range works better on the sti from the advantage of the avcs heads which yours doesnt have . Cheapest route run all 3 decats and 2.5in cat back , walbro , panel filter and samco y pipe , mapped 270-280hp so nice 40/50hp gain there and keeps everything from being stressed out. Same again but hybrid td04 with a 3port and sti injectors as you will be at 100% on stocks this will make 300/300ft Next level and most comman pretty much same as you have said , Vf35 is easy to get hold of will see 340hp realistically, Sti tmic and under tray to make the most 3inch turbo back system Will see 330-340hp but I'd expect a clutch at this point and you are now starting to strain things so if it's a higher millage car the box may decide not to like it , Personally I'd stick to around the 300hp mark which is some 80hp more than stock and will drive loads better , nothings strained and if you want more by a sti that's simply the better way to go, can't say it enough how much stronger the sti is out of the box , As others have said you will be looking at brakes , arb , wheels to accommodate calipers so the bill starts to really add up , I'm currently messing around with a wrx and will be taking just the 280hp and mess around with handiling |

Vf34 is the best comes in 500rpm sooner and produces more hp, I've heard the later vf43/48 blowers where laggy on the 2litre but make good power. |
Thanks everyone for the advice to be honest id be more than happy with 270/280 bhp as it's my daily so wouldn't won't to kill anything, Millage wise it's only just coming up to 80,000 so fairly low for 04.
280hp daily is really nice, low down pull and doesn't stress anything out , and cheap enough to do .

a suitably matched nice little Harvey Smith 'trick' up-pipe is he best bang for buck IMO and technically below 300 you wont need injectors or 3port.......
Cheers all for the advice 👍 it's very much appreciated, so in summary walbro fuel pump, panel filter, up pipe, down pipe, silicone Y pipe and remap should see around 280 ISH
