Cutting out boot floor ?

What are the reasons for cutting the boot floor out and putting a flat floor in?

Think to smooth the underside of the car (less drag) and fit a diffusher to suck car downwards (more grip) just a guess but all the top drag/time attack cars have them.

midlife2 20-06-2011 09:05 PM

Not for weight then? Wouldent the exhaust muck the air flow up?

MIDLIFE 20-06-2011 09:19 PM

Think I will leave this to the experts now, all the top cars use a lot of carbon fibre to save weight, I will also be interested to hear the comments on this.:ok:

Anger 20-06-2011 09:23 PM

And alot of the big cars use side exit exhausts with the big diffusers

midlife2 20-06-2011 09:25 PM

Not much of a weight save then?

Anger 20-06-2011 09:51 PM

What are you going to do fuel tank wise ?

midlife2 20-06-2011 10:11 PM

Not sure yet, going to use the car at santapod and track days and need to drive it there from Eastbourne

Rear diffuser without full flat floor is pointless and just cosmetic addition. On some cars(Rally cars,Race cars etc.) is full flat floor which create positive downforce(something like suction effect),best way(for relative lower price, than full flat floor) how get bigger downforce is APR rear spoiler(fully adjustable and which is tested in aero tunnel).I'm not sure but these diffuser(HT Autos) are not tested in aero tunnel,if you are looking for aero tested and mostly used out are APR(which are tested in aero tunnel)
Full benefit from just diffuser,is not possible due you don't have as above i say Full flat floor....
A diffuser takes the airflow from under the car and channels it out into the low pressure area behind the car. The shape and design of the diffuser will determine how much (if any) downforce is produced. A full flat underbody will work the best with a diffuser, like the picture of the Enzo .
On a car without a flat underbody, the bottom of the body panels and rear bumper is usually lower than the bottom of the actual chassis of the car. A diffuser will help keep the airflow smoother when flowing into the area behind the car.
In my view is pointless fit on some cars, great addons, but too expensive if you want go carbon route. But you will need also get your car get little bit lower, because when car is lower then this flat floor create better downforce

You must know how it works and probably will be best test this in Aero Tunnel(£500 per hour), technically i would do this on mine, but practically will is not for me,due i don't want put something which i never use(i'm not professionally racing or i'm not preparing my car for racing/TA)

And here is great article on EVO forum about the Diffuser and how it works.

What times are you looking for at the pod ?

I was running 11.4's @ 128mph with 450bhp with just sound deadening out

Do you really want to go that far for a road car

midlife2 20-06-2011 10:23 PM

Anger. think i need some tips from you, my best time is 12.4 , really need to get into the 11s

Anger 20-06-2011 10:57 PM

Thanks Anger , dont forget

i cut my boot floor out for weight, there are eaiser things to remove/ do for weight reduction

midlife2 20-06-2011 11:14 PM

Hi Jaffa what are those?

midlife2 20-06-2011 11:15 PM

Do you guys who drag race use shift lights?

Anger 20-06-2011 11:22 PM

Nope and dont use lauch control

midlife2 20-06-2011 11:27 PM

So launch control is the key then? Got it but can't get the hang of it

midlife2 20-06-2011 11:32 PM

Sorry you don't use it. Take the 11.4 was in your ra? Was it stripped out?

2-jaffacake-tone 20-06-2011 11:33 PM

On P2 we are cutting out rear floor pan next week.
Removing fuel tank and floor section and having it alley plated to include 30 Ltr fuel cell, twin swirl pots, fuel pumps & braided lines.
We are having diffuser made at same time will be attached to underside.

60ft times on the 3 runs were aroung the 2 sec mark
1st run 1.8 60ft 1/4 mile 12.6 105 mph
2nd run 2.2 60ft 1/4 mile 13.1 118.5 mph
3rd run 2.0 60ft 1/4 mile 12.4 112 mph

Anger 21-06-2011 12:07 PM

Should be about 1.6 on an RA mate

2-jaffacake-tone 21-06-2011 12:13 PM

are you spinning up on the line or bogging down? 2.0 60ft seems a bit high

midlife2 21-06-2011 01:04 PM

Had the dccd fully open and the back wheels were spinning so locked it and started to bog down, need more practice and some helpful tips lol

Anger 21-06-2011 01:53 PM

More revs... 5500 revs and lift a little till moving and then side step the rest

Skullfudge 21-06-2011 04:33 PM

Launch Control is only beneficial when it mapped to launch and many aren't.

Optimum set up for most of the big fish in the Scooby world is 5000 - 5500 rpm at 0.8 boost. That is the set up for the quickest 0 - 60 ft times in general.

Triple plates are really hard to use.

Did anyone see Mikee Singhs launch at The Pod on Sunday afternoon ?
That was one of those best launches I've ever seen. The thing just took off.

2-jaffacake-tone 21-06-2011 07:01 PM

Mikee did a 1.5174 60ft time with a 9.66 @144 thats on a 2.1 on a gt30 very impressive!!

Anger 21-06-2011 07:03 PM

No launch control with Mikee ;)
