6R4.net Track Day – Curborough

I know there are a few rally fans on the forum, so I thought I’d post these up.

Thanks to Dave P, I managed to get an invite to the 6R4.net track day at Curborough Sprint Circuit last week. I was allowed to wander trackside with my camera, here are a few shots…

Other than a number of 6R4’s, the event organisers had also extended invitations to a handful of RS200 owners.

The 6R4 has appeared in a lot of different liveries over the years, but I don’t think any beat the Computervision colours.

A trailer arrived in the paddock just after lunch and opened up to reveal the RS200 of Nigel Mummery. Thanks to Dave, I managed to jump in the passenger seat for his first few laps…

…some of you may know that I have quite a car crush on the RS200. Just a few minutes in the car was enough to utterly cement my love for the 200: I want one even more now!

Have to admit that the 80’s interior made me chuckle!

Special mention to the owner of this 6R4: he drove the car to Curborough, tracked it all day, then drove it home again afterwards!

Absolutely incredible day, was surreal to see Group B cars in such a relaxed environment.

 I was trying not to show too much excitement about the RS200 in front of the 6R4 owners: I don't think I did a very good job of hiding it though!

:D I was amazed how different the experience was in the 6R4 versus the RS200. God knows how crews did a whole event in the 6R4, it was ridiculously hot and I couldn't hear a thing!

Yes I do! I can't 100% commit until a bit nearer the time though. All being well I'll also do the Tempest again this year.

awesome pics and awesome motors :ok:

Keep your luxury supercars. My lottery garage would consist of group b rally cars. 6r4, T16, rs200, and of course some later rally cars too. Proper automotive porn. Thanks for the pics.

Biffa 28-08-2015 09:55 AM

Some rally cars just "do it" :worthy:

Although for me it would be a quattro sport or lancia integrale and Stratos :cath:

 Fully agree!

I wouldn't say no to any of the Group B cars (except the godawful Citroen), but the RS200 just tops the list for me. Would have to own a quattro though, just for the noise!

Brilliant snaps!, cant say I'm not jealous of a ride in an rs200!

Red Baron 28-08-2015 07:44 PM

If you're ever passing through Hawkhurst just off the A21 there's a car dealer called Mark Lilley Diesels and in their showroom, although not for sale, is a low mileage Testarossa and a mint RS200, owner has both as investments but apparently neither of them have moved in years. What a waste.

A few laps weren't enough: I'd have been happy sitting there for the rest of the afternoon!

 What a waste. Not saying it has to be rallied or anything, but it should at least be driven!

May well have a little project coming up with Mr Lilly, i'm sure some arrangement could be made to have a blast in both of his exoticas!!!:norty:

Get him on the club stand at supercar siege next year!

Banstead Stig 30-08-2015 08:25 AM

Nice pics Steve.

There was a 6R4 at Wings and Wheels yesterday, which the Stiglet took a shine to. Obviously that's because there was no T16 there, but it showed promise nonetheless!

It's interesting that with the Group B cars most people seem to love them all, but have different orders of preference. If be happy to have pretty much any of those era cars. I can't think of another Motorsport era/discipline where that's true.

For me the T16 and Quattro top the bill.

The Testarossa doesn't do anything for me: I'd go straight for the RS200!

Yeah, pretty much every petrolhead seems to love the "big 5" from the Group B era! For me personally Group B is all about the cars; there were certainly some great drivers and events in that era, but the competition has been much closer at other points in the history of the WRC.
