Blue Jdm Sti Blob

Well its been just over 2 months since i got my first scooby.
Done my research and decided to go for a jdm spec sti.
Finally found 1 at Hurst Cars and went for a test drive, loved it and bout it a few days later. Took longer for the dvla to sort out the registration than for me to decide to buy it.

sat waiting in Japan (shamelessly stolen from Hursts website)

Very nice, I will probably see you around as I only live about 3 miles away from you.

Very nice looking scoob you found yourself there fella :10:

KevP84 20-07-2015 10:01 PM

well so far only done a few things to the car.
some new discs and pads from AS Performance, as well as a grill to prevent debris going in via the scoop.

Nice. Only thing I'd mention is that you would be surprised how much air a bit of grill like that can block from reaching the intercooler...

+1 If your on a top mount, I would not do this..

Nice choice of brakepad ;)

did think of that, so been keeping half an eye on the temp gauge since its been on there.
temp has never deviated from the norm and not noticed any performance difference either
its easy enough to remove if i get issues.

this box of goodies arrived yesterday. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psn0edty0d.jpg

It's not there to cool the engine but to cool the charge air.
If the charge air temp increases you will be down on power and there is a possibility this will lead to detonation (especially on a high speed run at 100+). You will then either loose a piston/ring or the pressure of detonation will take out a big end (normally No.3)

Red Baron 21-07-2015 08:46 AM

It's not the engine temperature that will be the problem it's the air intake temperatures that will creep up and could start causing you problems.

To be honest I've only ever seen a couple of photos of small birds sat on top of intercoolers and I've never heard of one being punctured by stones or other debris. The main reason the fins get bent is because the intercooler makes a handy tool tray when you're working on the engine.

Great minds think alike, or along the same lines anyway.

Steve_PPP 21-07-2015 08:57 AM

As above... as nice as it looks (and you've done a tidy job with it) its not worth it in the long run. Scott used to regularly map these cars and knows what he's talking about... :)

KevP84 21-07-2015 10:52 AM

all advixe appreciated, thanks.
i shall remove it when i get a chance.

seventune 22-07-2015 08:22 AM

Looks good on the enkei wheel fella.

KevP84 12-08-2015 07:50 PM

took it to get mapped last week, all thats different from standard is a green cotton panel filter, scoobyworx collosus 290lph fuel pump and a back box (wanted a bit more sound).
any ways didn't need a map in the end as was running very nicely at 308.3bhp on v power.

Liking this mate... Quite like those alloys, too! Definitely needs a bigger wing on it though IMHO ;)

KevP84 14-08-2015 11:44 PM

will be after a bigger wing at some point, bit lower down on the list of things to sort out/get done.
hopefully i can pick 1 up on the cheap possibly with the boot so i dont need to drill the extra holes for the big sti wing.
next up is sort out the front speakers as the front mid/bass drivers are shot!!
been looking at some alpines.

need to do an update at some point (with pics) now i got my defis in.

Rdlangy1 15-08-2015 06:06 AM

Lovely motor and impressive results :ok:

KevP84 15-08-2015 11:20 AM

KevP84 16-08-2015 06:41 PM

Looks like you did a great job! What was your technique, tools and products, it's always a hot topic in the blob Impreza world.

KevP84 16-08-2015 08:35 PM

all by hand, took me bout 2 and half hours for the first 1 and bout 90mins for te 2nd. kinda knew what i was doing then.
used 1500grit wet and dry, then 2000 followed by 2500, working in a circular motion.
my house mate gave me the remains of his his meguairs lense cleaning kit.
so then wet at them with the plastex (kinda like a polishing compound), they came up ace. then there was some uv protection stuff in the box i put on afterwards.
put them back on the car, then grabbed a corona put my feet up and posted the pics :-)
