Sports cat , remap??

Hi guys, Was just wondering if i would need to remap my standard cat running scoob if i changed it with a Sports cat???

I know you need to if you totally de-cat but technically the cat is still there?

C. J. 24-12-2011 06:25 PM

would get a check at the least

Crowman 24-12-2011 06:33 PM

Been having a little read up on intranet , looks like you don't have to, but is recommended having it checked .
I'm sure jolly green will pop up and help with this one

Anger 24-12-2011 07:37 PM

On my first classic i ran a full decat for 3 years without a problem... it had the standard pea shooters on when i got it

60'000 miles like that aswell

Crowman 24-12-2011 07:45 PM

Was that an import James

Anger 24-12-2011 07:57 PM

Good point... keep on forgetting its not a RB5 and is a STi5 :)

majorscooby 24-12-2011 08:10 PM

Cheers guys, i think your right getting it checked wouldn't be a bad idea. would like to get in on the rollers and see what its pushing before and after.

Crowman 24-12-2011 08:28 PM

Does look like an RB5 , specially with those alloys

Hmmm, qusetion is to change or not to change??

Could keep em and get them refurbed and sprayed satin black, with the car lowered they might look ten times better ( Must send a pic to Clive for a photo shop! )

Or change them all together, really like Rota rim's at the mo but it depends what i can get with what off set dont want no arch rubbing when its lowered!!

Thinking about it can you get a set of springs that will lower the STI by quite a fair bit??? Every set i see will only drop it 5mm :sadnod:

Crowman 25-12-2011 11:06 AM

You can get eibachs that drop it 25 mm mate

Yeah but are they for an sti ??? Normally if you read the small print it will say that it lowers an sti about half as much!

Crowman 25-12-2011 07:58 PM

Oh I don't know then mate

The modding bug is (understandably) strong with this one..........................

SpecB 27-12-2011 10:37 AM

Stuff springs, just get a set of BCs on it! I'd get the map checked at least if you go sports cat, although it will depend which sports cat you fit and where you fit it. Mine has a 100cell cat in the mid section (de-cat downpipe), if the cats in the downpipe you're more likely to get away without a remap.

Jolly Green Monster 27-12-2011 10:44 AM

if you pop up to surrey rr when I am there (dates in my sub forum) I am happy to put detcans on it and check and talk you through the dyno printouts etc..

Do often find the sti needs mapping when decatted, sportscat will depend on how well it flows.

Also see a lot of fail mafs and fuel pumps on 99/00 cars.

Cheers Simon,

The sport cat is in the down pipe i believe, Just waiting for it to come off of another members scoob.

At the mo my system and car is totally standard so anything will be an improvement but i just dont want it to go pop. Even though its standard it certainly feels quicker than my new age wagon which was de-cat'd and mapped but i can defo feel like its restricted and being strangled.

Crowman 27-12-2011 04:36 PM

Simon, I am soon to be fitting full RCM 3 " decat to the P1 and will then need to get it booked in with you.

Rich
Would make sense to go and see Simon at same time.
I'm going to take exhaust system off this weekend , so any time you want the sports cat it's yours mate.

Sweet fella, looks like mine will off the road now sooner than i thought :-x

But im gonna get on with the brake issue asap now the seal kits are on the way, The only place where ive ordered bits and there open between christmas.:ok:

While its jacked up mart i may fit the sports cat. Been looking at the Afterburner back box that i had on the wagon too as i quite liked the sound of it. Was trying to find the TSL one scott mentioned but i cant find them online anymore.

All this going on and i really should be putting pennies aside for germany lol! :angst:

Scott.T 27-12-2011 07:51 PM

Looks like TSL are shutting up shop as stock clearance on ebay : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TSL-Group-...item2569bf5404

majorscooby 27-12-2011 07:58 PM

Why is it everyone else can find stuff and i cant on bleedin ebay! :more:
Its a nice box and the finish of the welds look A1!!! but id like a slightly bigger opening, as the actress said to the bishop.

Crowman 27-12-2011 08:39 PM

That TSL back box is exactly what im after but with 3" fitting as i have RCM down pipe and centre.
RCM have a prototype on Ollys car at present, hopefully it will be ready early in the new year.
I want to keep as standard a look as possible

Any other manufacturers i could look at?
I want top quality 3" bore with 2.5" tail pipe, straight exit.Would idealy like to find something like the old janspeed or scorpion with an outward rolled tail pipe.

C. J. 27-12-2011 08:43 PM

It's a 4" tailpipe. Any bigger then that and you get the Jap look/un-rolled tip.

Crowman 27-12-2011 09:31 PM

This fits in with exactly what im after.

SpecB 28-12-2011 07:44 AM

The Group N I had when the rest of the system was standard was the best I've heard - wish there was a 3' system to go with it!
