Hell YES!

Was just about to start a thread for it as I've just done one on Surrey! The August Bank Holiday meet at Lydden is always a good one, but there is going to be a new retro class running this year (so the RS200 will be back on track) and Marcus Gronholm is going to be on circuit as well!

tbtstt 19-08-2011 11:30 AM

Bump for a week to go...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJKbCRCne-o

...I can't wait!

tbtstt 22-08-2011 04:04 PM

Sorry for the triple attack on this thread, but for anyone who might be interested I'm meeting with a few guys from Surrey Scoobies at 8:00 AM, Clacketts Lane Services (Eastbound), with a view to heading off for Lydden at 8:15.

Let me know if you want to join us and we'll look out for you!

BIG"E" 27-08-2011 10:58 PM

Sorry mate got a reunion/BBQ to go to.....

Richard 28-08-2011 10:37 PM

I will be down there about 9:00, hope the weather turns out ok!

tbtstt 29-08-2011 07:35 PM

Hope you all had as good a day as I did. One of the single best bits of car control I've ever seen from Gronholm, loads of close racing, lots of big moments (hope the drivers were all OK ) and I managed to be standing in the right places to watch all of it! (for once!).

Well I did, a good day out thats for sure.

How Gronholm did not roll is beyond me,
all I saw (from where the finish flag used to be) was the side of his car and wheels up in the air going round the hair pin AWESOME.

Steve_PPP 29-08-2011 08:48 PM

looking forward to the photos chaps. didn't realise Gronholm was there - shows how much i looked into this event :(

need a bit more spare time, hopefully i'll make both British and European next year

We were sitting on that corner at the time, so the whole thing happened right in front of us. He turned in with the two inside wheels in the air - but a lot of the supercars do that - as he approached the apex of the corner the car suddenly seemed to roll more and I was sure he was going over. He then managed to steer the car round the corner on two wheels, whilst blocking the cars behind. Incredible skill (or luck!); was worth the £15 entry fee just to see that!

Poor show dude! ;) It was quite unusual for a British round as there was a fair few "other" drivers there - made for some great racing though!

Took "quite a few" pictures, so maybe a week or so before I have the pictures sorted and posted!

tbtstt 01-09-2011 08:56 AM

Being a bit slow sorting the pictures out, but here's a teaser for you...

Makes a change: normally I'm on the opposite side of the track when something happens!

Had a bit of a setting fail, so I've ended up deleting a load of pictures. :( Got about 200 left to sift through, so I'm hoping to get out of work promptly today and get them sorted!

I really don't know why this spectacular form of motor sport,

Does not get more interest on here?

Each to their own, I suppose.

Its exactly that, each to their own. I like rallycross but last time i went in the scoob, it cost me over £100 for the day for me and Claire (including fuel).

In the diesel, i can do a day in Wales to watch the rallying for half that believe it or not  (about 50 quid of fuel, no ticket costs). Yet a lot of people aren't interested in rallying either.

Swings and roundabouts. Lydden doesn't have a massive amount of facilities compared to say, Brands - the DTM is there this weekend and I expect tickets for that could be had for about 20 quid too..... both are a days racing, just different types :)

I've said it before - but I'm going to say it again - but the general lack of interest in rally in the Scoob owners clubs has always surprised me. I always expected the owners clubs to have the bulk of members interested in rally, with only a minority interested in drag etc. yet the opposite is true.

Excluding the differences in tracks and the like, I'm surprised rallycross does attract more interest in general on here. I would have thought an assortment of 550 BHP+ 4wd cars would be up everyones street!

Off Topic: are you going to the DTM Steve?

Oh yeah, car cleaning, I should probably consider that as well...

...incidentally if any of you are interested there are highlights of this round of the British Rallycross on tomorrow morning at 06:55 AM on Channel 4 - so set your videos! ;)

BIG"E" 02-09-2011 10:04 PM

Did you hear how the driver was after he was taken to the medical centre?

The crash that happened on the Dover straight just before the elbow.?

stiggy 02-09-2011 10:16 PM

The two hatchbacks where one ended up on top of the other? Can't remember the drivers names, but I read the day after that they were both fine. I feared the worst when they had the sheets up but the comment on them said they both just had bumps and bruises.

I always thought exactly the same mate.

I cant understand why so many Scooby owners drag race a car that has been built to rally? lol

Bit like preparing a 427 Boss Mustang for rallying ??????

Mind you I have several mates that are running in the 9's in Scoobies so they
