Hawkeye TMIC adivce needed

Hey all, after getting some sound advice on my remap here, I call upon the masses with my next query.

I don't want to go down the route of a FMIC, mainly cause I am looking to achieve 360-370bhp eventually and also cause i hear they are a biatch to fit on a hawkeye.

So tmic, do I swap it with the hawkeye STI or will a blob/bugeye STI intercooler fit my hawkeye wrx? I think they will be different mounting locations but I could be wrong. I already have the hawkeye STI under tray fitted.

Only asking as the hawk sti tmic are more expensive than older ones. Can it be modified easily?

Answers on a post card, ta very much!!!

i think both can be made to fit, i just think if anything they may need the matching brackets for left and right of intercooler. not 100% certain though. i also think later intercoolers had 1 piece hardpipe underneath, where as earlier versions had 2 or 3 piece with silicon hose joing them, again not 100%.

ok cool, just on fleabay hawkeye sti costs £250+ bug and blob are quite a bit cheaper. Thanks

with the above in mind, is there a better tmic that I could get thats better than the sti one?

there are possibly better ones but I think all much more money. I just got a late blob sti one on my bug when I had it.

as I say I am not 100% on above so don't take my word for it, but hopefully it will guide you in right direction.

I am pretty sure the hawkeye wrx ones are different to earlier ones. but I am not so sure what the difference is on the sti. I imagine hawkeye ones are more also due to usually being in better condition. Or maybe its just hawkeye tax, seeing as they are the last of that shape.

Hawkeye sti uses the same intercooler as the other newage. It was only the wrx that had a size change when it went blob to hawk.
I'm not sure if they share the same bracket though.

Ok cool I'll find a nice one and take the plunge. Thanks for the help

The hawk VF turbo has a slight kick in the outlet angle iirc to clear the DBW throttle assembly. So you may have to jiggle the inlet pipe slightly.
I'm not sure if the td04 on the wrx does the same. Either way it's not major and a little creative fitting of the hose may be required by removing it and fitting slightly further down. But then again it may be a direct swap.

I thought the hawk TMIC was slightly longer and thinner than the blob one (only a tiny bit in it though).. So I've been told anyway. needless to say I could be wrong!

I've got a hawk wrx, I bought a hawk sti intercooler and just did a straight swap. Did a few other changes at the time though and remapped it afterwards.

Have a look around for breakers, you'll get it a lot cheaper. Think I paid £135 for mine including pipes.

dan1985 08-04-2016 02:29 PM

Ok cool thanks for that, yeah I think a breakers will be cheaper than eBay etc. Someone showed me one for £140 on here at a different site but missed out on it
