Yes mate im up for this :drive:

Steve_PPP 02-10-2010 07:36 PM

ah beaten to it again, we're planning an SES outing to this for all that wants to come. I've just been working away all week (its grim up Nooorth) so hadn't got round to posting it up yet.

I will be going, i know a couple of Surrey might do to. I'll post up some more info later this evening.

Scott.T 02-10-2010 08:20 PM

Thinking about it....may stay over at the Holiday Inn Farnborough and grab a curry the night before.

Weekend rates are v.good IIRC about £50 per room and can spit the costs in a twin room.

.
Just checked and £48 for twin room.

A little bit more information for people....

- The stages are all based around the Aldershot/Fleet area, with the furthest south being in the Longmoor military land. The spectator stages are Warren, Yateley and Rushmoor Arena. Further stages are run at Longmoor and Ash, but these two are designated as non-spectator stages.

- Unlike a lot of other rallies, the event is divided into two categories - Tempest4 and Tempest2 (4wd and 2wd respectively). Rather than follow each other around the stages during the day, Tempest4 starts out in one location which Tempest2 starts somewhere completely different. This means the spectators can choose to focus on watching 4wd or 2wd cars as they please, and that both categories start in the morning at the same time on unused stages. This benefits the 2wd competitors as they don't end up starting/finishing later, plus is means everyone has an equal share of driving on cut-up stages from earlier runs.

- Stages typically start at 9am and finish by 5:30pm. Last years final stages all ended in the dark.

- Last year I spectated from both Longmoor and Ash (for free) although if we are forming a large group then it might be better to head for Warren or Yateley. There are certainly no spectator facilities (parking/toilets/food etc) at either Longmoor or Ash.

- Car sharing recommended to reduce costs for everyone and parking spaces used. I'll be driving up early in the morning and happy to take a car full. If folks from Hastings way prefer to stay in the local Holiday Inn, we'll meet up with you in the morning (i know its a good 2hrs or so from Hastings to Aldershot).

- This years stage running order/times are still to be confirmed by the organisers.

And a few quick photos from last year...

We (me and the wife) have been going for years could catch up with you guys. Will watch whats happening

Scott.T 03-10-2010 09:19 PM

Not sure I like the idea of 2wd and 4wd running at different times. will have tomix up the stage viewing in order to see both.
As much as I like to see a scoob or a evo, I do also like to see and hear a Mk1 or Mk2 escort running through the tree's.

The format works quite well in reality. Stages are not far apart so easy to move around, and it gives the 2wd guys a chance to use smoother roads at the start of the day - some of the sections cut up quite badly after the 4wd cars have been through them.

Last year i got to see both 5 stage runs in total i think, a mixture of both 2wd and 4wd.

I could be up for this.....is it best to stay overnight or can you drive to it and back in a day?

Not a lot. If we go to the spectator stages, then probably a tenner a stage entry? if we go to the others, then no entry fee ;)

The odd burger here and there or bring sandwiches, and some petrol money for whoever's driving!

tbtstt 05-10-2010 03:54 PM

I'm definately up for this. I'm not sure on exactly how many other Surrey folks will be attending, but it looks like 5 or 6 at the moment - I will post some names when we have a definate head count!

Would really like to do the Ash stage (if we can all find somewhere to park) as I really want to check out the jump!

worzel 05-10-2010 04:17 PM

Sounds like a plan to all go down together, meeting you Surrey guys on the way. :ok:

Frenchie 05-10-2010 10:06 PM

We should be in the UK so I fancy this.

Scott.T 05-10-2010 11:28 PM

So who's doing a day trip and who's doing an overnight. I could look into accomodation in either farnborough or fleet.

worzel 06-10-2010 08:39 AM

Day trip for me :ok:

Found out today I am on the radio crew for this, it has been a while since I have done it lol

Steve_PPP 20-10-2010 11:02 PM

bump - anymore for this?

The stage timetable has been released for Warren, Yateley and Rushmoor Arena so i'm just working out how the other stages will fit inbetween (looks a very similar order to last year). Theres 4 names on the list but i can see Nige, Frenchie and Lucky have shown interest - you guys still fancy it?

tbtstt 01-11-2010 11:00 AM

Less then a week to go to this now! The plan on Surrey seems to be to meet at the Arena car park at around 8:45/9, pool cars, then head off from there. Does that suit you chaps?

Steve_PPP 01-11-2010 12:35 PM

Possibly. I've just got my hands on the paperwork issued to competitors via a very useful contact of mine, so now know what times Tempest4 and Tempest2 are running through the non-speccy stages.

I'll post up a bit more information this evening when i'm home from work :ok:

Hongkongfooi 02-11-2010 12:22 PM

whats the plans then chaps....meet up and pool cars and go up in one or two cars?
whats the finish time and likely time back in sussex as have dinner with friends in evening:chinese:

worzel 02-11-2010 12:24 PM

Same as you Tim.

I think as tbtstt says, meet up, pool cars and set off.

I want to be back in Sussex by about 4.00 - 5.00pm really.

:ok:

Steve_PPP 02-11-2010 12:36 PM

I guess we'd need a couple of cars then, as the final stages don't start until 4:15pm. Expect it to take 45 mins or so for all cars to come through so a 5pm finish, then your journey home.

If you want to be home by 4-5pm then you'll be missing half the afternoon. I'll be staying until the end of the stages, so hence we will need two cars if you guys want to get away earlier :)

I've still got to look through the info i've been sent and work about the best idea for stages, but i know the Surrey gang are meeting at the Rushmoor Arena and leaving cars there that aren't needed.

Hopefully i'll have a plan by this evening with what times we need to be where :ok:

worzel 02-11-2010 12:59 PM

Good stuff mate. :ok:

scoobycoops 02-11-2010 02:21 PM

Balancing?

What have you done then Coops?

Steve_PPP 03-11-2010 07:09 PM

Right, its decision time. We can do either of the following.

Option 1.
Yateley 1 (2WD) -
Ash 1 (2WD) -
Ash 1 (4WD) -
Warren 2 (4WD) -

Good points - will allow us to meet up with Surrey at the Rushmoor Arena car park at the start of the day (8:30ish). Would finish the day at about 4:30pm for the drive home.
Bad points - over an hour wait between last car on the first Ash running and the first car on the second Ash running. Not enough time to get out to another stage but a lot of time to sit around doing sweet-FA. Also don't see any 4WD cars until the afternoon stages (some may have retired). 2WD entries include cool stuff like mk2 escorts and the like, but also a lot of duller stuff like Micras and Pug 106s.

Option 2
Longmoor 1 (4WD) -
Longmoor 2 (4WD) -
Warren 1 (4WD) -
Ash 2 (2WD) -
Ash 2 (4WD) -

Good points - 5 stages instead of 4. No long waiting around gaps. More of the 4WD action (better to watch imo). More free stages so cheaper day out.
Bad points - Won't be able to meet up with the Surrey lot in the morning. Limited parking at Longmoor (nearby housing estate job if roadside parking all taken up). Only Warren is a proper spectator stage so bring sarnies with you - no facilities at Longmoor or Ash!

I'm happy to go with the majority on this. Would personally prefer option 2 as more stages and more 4WD, but it might not fit in with what Surrey are doing. For reference, Ash is the stage with the jump mentioned earlier, and Longmoor is located about 30 mins further South (between Bordon and A3). What do you guys think?

Hongkongfooi 03-11-2010 08:27 PM

option 2 for me.....as good as the 2wd cars can be I'm wanting to see some scoobs!

Steve_PPP 05-11-2010 08:04 AM

Well i haven't had an opinion from Martyn or Steve so Option 2 it is!

I recommend we're in the Longmoor area by 9am - to give us a little time to find somewhere to park and walk to a nice spot. You'll need to get to here:
http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll...54932&t=h&z=15

Is anyones route passing near Burgess Hill to help with car sharing? I'm willing to drive in the diesel if anyone wants to save miles/vpower in their scoob.

worzel 05-11-2010 08:30 AM

Sorry boys, need to bail on this. Got a massive family issue with our youngest daughter. I need to be around.

Really sorry, as I was so looking forward to my first rally :sadnod:

Many thanks Steve PPP for the Ash stage timings - just what I have been looking for! To return the favour, and in case you're not already aware, the Ash stage appears to be only about half it's usual length this year. The start is in the usual place but it looks like the the cars will be leaving the stage at the rifle range gates near the Swan pub in Ash Vale (pretty much where the 'jump' is (actually, it's been a chicane these past few years...). Hope that helps and have a great day...

tbtstt 05-11-2010 11:44 AM

Is that due to lack of marshalls? I saw they were requesting more marshalls for Ash and one of the other stages earlier this week.
