X-Games 2012 Rallycross Jump Crash
 

Toomas Heikkinen has had a bad smash in the jump practise at X-Games 2012:

He escaped with a broken foot, fractured ribs and some internal bleeding.

Have got to ask the question: why were there no tyres or something on the edge of the landing ramp? And I hope someone at the GRC/X-Games is asking serious questions about whether "rallycross" in the US needs this silly gap jump.

Ouch, that doesn't look good :(

At that speed the edge of the ramp would act like a knife, they were very lucky that they carried enough speed for the front of the car to take the impact. A few mph less and the ramp edge would have gone straight through the windscreen/A pillar - and no cage will completely protect the driver in that scenario. :o
