DTM R6 – Brands Hatch
So I said I wouldn’t be giving Brands any more of my money after seeing what they had done to the GP loop earlier in the year, but I couldn’t resist the lure of the DTM cars.
Took some photos from the few sections of track that aren’t blocked by high fencing now: https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1837/2...ebf8ffc6_b.jpg I remember the DTM cars being quick, but I forgot just how fast. The Blancpain GT3 cars were posting lap times in the region of 1:23 earlier in the year, the DTM cars cracked 1:17! https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1812/2...e3b9a6e2_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1866/4...9819f0db_b.jpg Jamie Green led the race for some time, but a slow pit stop coupled with a penalty dropped him right down the field. Shame, as there was potential for three British drivers on the podium. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1882/4...d901b704_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1877/4...e97e4f77_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1868/3...70153710_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1876/4...71cc112e_b.jpg Championship leader Gary Paffett qualified on pole and went on to finish second. He now has a 29 point Championship lead with four rounds to go, so it looks likely he will take the title in Mercedes final season in DTM. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1844/4...c842b557_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1841/4...9747068b_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1838/4...0fbceb53_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1815/2...9090f459_b.jpg The all black BMW of Bruno Spengler was my favourite looking car on the track, though Spengler spent most of the race at the back of the field. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1885/4...61c890cb_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1881/4...1c1ce7a5_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1874/4...b1e9dfbd_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1880/4...f18c0f61_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1888/4...a29c4eec_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1871/4...cc6c912b_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1856/4...88888cd3_b.jpg The DTM cars were loud wherever you stood, but it was verging on painful if you got side on to them! https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1820/4...348c9204_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1861/4...409fd2fa_b.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1868/2...3529a8b4_b.jpg Overall victory went to Paul di Resta. After taking an early pit stop, Di Resta climbed up the order as everyone else headed to the pits, making it a British 1-2. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1813/4...1c6c720b_b.jpg I am still cursing Brands for what they have done with the fencing but, that aside, the DTM cars were exactly as I remember: very fast and stupidly loud! I must confess I wasn't aware they were pulling out until the announced it at the circuit. It was quite surprising to hear given how strong the Mercedes looked on track. Quote:
My only complaint of the day (other than all the fencing!) was that the support races were very limited, especially when compared to the Blancpain round earlier this year (and considering how much more expensive the tickets were). |
