Callipers.......why?
 

Here’s my thought for today. In general car terms you want to drop the weight lower to improve COG which helps with stability etc.


So why are callipers typically located in an upright position and not on the lower part of the wheel horizontally........

Things like lower wish bones and steering rack ends are all in the way normally, also need to consider bleeding the system as bleed nipples need to be at the highest point possible on the calliper to allow all the air out.

It’s a fair point regarding COG and un-sprung weight though, which is why many performance brake setups come with forged aluminium callipers.
