Things to do list before 24th May

Just wondering who's got what to do in preparation for our little trip to The Ring??

Here is mine:
1. Change wheels
2. Get my mate to wire in install the knock sensor thingy.
3. Service (oil change etc) and check over, booked in for the 17th.
4. Get some euros
5. up date my Tom Tom.

And thats about it....

Roll on trip number funf.

Steve_PPP 27-04-2013 12:58 PM

Give it a wash and that's it. :)

It might get some wax if its lucky. Car was ready for Goodwood so nothing else needs doing before Germany, first year in ages i haven't had a list of things to sort on it!

Hongkongfooi 27-04-2013 03:17 PM

mines got mot and oil change this weds. Considering a re gas on the air con as its been at least 2 years since the last.

but that's about it considering all the last minute crap last year just to go....this is a breeze:ok:

SpecB 27-04-2013 07:23 PM

Get Euros, GeT tyres fitted.

BIG"E" 27-04-2013 07:34 PM

It is all looking good guys

lets hope there are no last minute dramas...

Scooby_Greg 27-04-2013 08:27 PM

Steve_PPP 28-04-2013 11:24 AM

Thats a lot to keep you busy Simon! Hope you get time to sort it all, but you've got a good reserve in the Golf if necessary

555_Si 28-04-2013 07:03 PM

doing too much to Scoob to wheel the golf out now, atleast I hope anyway.

just trying to get the courage up to attempt the manifold and turbo swap next weekend. Not sure if this a driveway job or not, now the back isn't as good as it used to be.

Scooby_Greg 29-04-2013 02:58 PM

My list doesn't seem too bad now I've seen Simon's! Changed the rear arb last night. Will do the front if I manage to get home from work before 10pm this week. Geo and corner weighting booked for 2 weeks time. Have decided I'm going to sort the rust on the wheel arch before we go too - that's a job for next weekend!

Not long to go now!!

Hongkongfooi 01-05-2013 08:09 PM

Mot passed and oil change completed. Only done 4k in it since the last one in August

Steve_PPP 02-05-2013 01:25 PM

Time to start prioritising the jobs mate! Sure you can survive without doing the rear brembos, I'd focus on the fronts. Can also help with the fuel pump swap if needs be as did mine recently.

Lucky 02-05-2013 04:45 PM

Mine was secured to the passenger seat bar (the one to move the seat backwards and forwards) using 2 zip ties. It didnt get in the way of moving the seat either.

SpecB 02-05-2013 06:29 PM

I just fitted mine into the rear footwell, self tappers through the metal.

Really should take a look at mine soon, and get the tyres fitted!

555_Si 02-05-2013 08:30 PM

cheers, I have a 2.25 litre fire extinguisher which is quite large, I will try and get a bracket made up, but heavy duty cable ties may have to do until I get back from Germany. Running out of time now and still soooo much to do.

Interesting thing I have noted and wasn't expecting is that since changing my down pipe and centre section over to 3" exhaust as opposed to standard kit, I now get turbo oil burn on startup. Apparently this can be quite common on higher mileage turbos. Still i'm going to try and change the exhaust manifold and turbo at weekend, not looking forward to it at all.

555_Si 02-05-2013 10:10 PM

i think the misses has just assisted with extinguisher as i think she can get me a halon one from work which are smaller and actually do something when you use them. easier to mount.

Thought halon were banned and not in use anymore? Were very good on dangerous dogs 8-)

555_Si 02-05-2013 10:30 PM

yeah i have just realised it is illegal to own, thought you just coudn't buy them anymore except for military and aviation use. back to plan A

Steve_PPP 02-05-2013 10:33 PM

Think halon has been banned for about 10 years for all uses other than military and commercial aircraft?

Might work well but i wouldn't want to be caught with one in the car by zeeee Deutsche Politziiiii ;)

edit/ too slow

Scott.T 02-05-2013 10:48 PM

Another job then for me tomoz...make & fit extinguisher bracket along with P1 Springs & KS3 for 'E'

The Gimp 04-05-2013 06:12 AM

I envoy you all for going.

Just got my car running 100% and itching to get out there. I know a few of the other boys are out there this weekend that doesn't help.

Ive done exactly the same..

the best bit is when all the paper work arrives...

Guess what it is all in GERMAN .

Scooby_Greg 04-05-2013 03:37 PM

Does this mean you can get towed off the Ring for free?

That's the idea :) cost was 96 euros for myself and Wanda to be covered with the + partner package, it covered us both for all sorts of stuff, looked a lot better than RAC/AA etc.

It takes 14 days for your membership cards to come through, but they phone you back with your membership numbers 15 minuets or so after taking out cover, puts you on cover from midnight that night.

There are a few links on the web relating to it.

I believe Ian gave me the Idea over a pub lunch at a meet a few months back :)

You may have to pay for recovery by the ring company breakdown vehicle but ADAC will then refund that cost, or as the last post states they may just bill ADAC directly.
There is contradictory info all over the place but you can take this cover from the kiosk building at the Ring apparently.

Ginola 05-05-2013 08:53 PM

This might be useful, Copy pasted from Pistonheads

Believe I spoke to Barbara when I phoned myself

Scooby_Greg 06-05-2013 10:13 AM

Thanks - will give them a bell

Scott.T 07-05-2013 09:18 PM

Bloody Lambda Sensor's......GRRRRRrrrrrrrr noticed mine was FUBAR this morning on the way to work.
Was running 12.3 AFR instead of 14.7 !!!!!!
Switching the Apexi ECU lambda control off, had it back running 14.7AFR (ish) at idle, on the base map.

Don't wanna be running that rich for the run down to Germany as it will be a bit heavy on the fuel budget.
The ECU could run without the lambda but then I'd be staring at the AFR gauge all the way down there trying to map every cell on cruise to 14.7AFR on the hand controller......I'd rather let the lambda feedback do that for me LOL......

Another job for the weekend.......

Ginola 07-05-2013 11:06 PM

need to buy a wideband sensor and gauge for mine at some point. preaty sure mine runs rich as hell on cruise.,

is 13.1 - 13.5 a normal fig for AFR?

555_Si 07-05-2013 11:26 PM

and remap booked, hopefully everything will be ok and i don't have any more hicups between now and the 24th. Just got to get garage to fit manifold and turbo as i have now run out of time to do it.

555_Si 07-05-2013 11:28 PM

does ADAC cover include bringing you and your car home back to the UK?

Thats quite rich if that's on idle or cruise. It should oscillate around 14.7 based on the lamda feedback.
That's more like part load of about 0 - 0.5bar boost.

Yes, just ask zee questions..

555_Si 15-05-2013 05:30 PM

ok so vf43 turbo and RCM manifolds in, and what a mistake. turbo lag central and exhaust noisey as hell. So going to have to change for a non jap style exhaust pretty quick or stuff a bung in the for the trip.

I tried, I tested, I'm not sure I like. lets see what happens come remap on Friday.
