On going issue, Hwlp please?
 

I had posted this issue on the site before but its worse!

I have a real hessitation when driving the car, doesnt seem to be boosting properly either, and pops under normal driving. feels very underpowered as well.

After Silver Surfers advice to check the coils I have done, I have fitted all new plugs and 4 new coil packs as they werent looking good. The problem is still happening! I did some searching online and people where surggesting the MAF sensor. I checked this and it is working fine (engine cuts out imediatly when unplugged), The oil level is fine and the only thing I have found that isnt right is the gearbox oil is low, I will be buying some tomorrow.

Does anyone have any ideas at all? Please? Its getting to the point that I wish I'd never brought the bloody thing now!

Just read on the scoobypedia that the boost solenoid sometimes needs cleaning, will try it tomorrow!

Clean the boost solenoid out an all it's pipe work with brake/carb cleaner.
While you are there clean the MAF element with the same claner and a cotton bud.

What plugs and what gap did you fit.

Were they New new coil packs or New 2nd Hand ??

They are new ones, the old ones ends had totally broken away but now drives the same.
Plugs are NGK 6F I believe, I ordered the service kit from ScoobyClinic. Same plugs were in it when I did it too. I didnt check the gaps, I only checked they were all equal out of the box.
(is there a easy trick to doing the rear passanger side plug, really struggled with space!)
I will try and clean it all out tomorrow night, I have Brake and Clutch cleaner Fluid, will this be ok or do I need to get carb cleaner spary?

Is the car OK when 1st started up, but then gets worse as it warms up? If so it could be a failing water temp sender

when u did the plugs im guessing you removed water bottle aswell as the bat?
shouldnt be too bad to get too,

I start the car up and in my opinion it seems to run a little rough but nothing too bad, I let the car warm up before driving properly. When I do drive it onto boost its always up to temp. Never tried it when cold.

Nick: I just have big hands and no extensions to give the exact spacing lol. Was nice to meet you and Thanks for the seals by the way, they seem to have cured the leak (one of the leaks lol)

if you have no undertray, sometimes it's better to work from underneath.

plugs should be gapped to 0.65mm if PFR6B's, I think they are gapped to around 1.0mm when new.

Ok I wwill check the gaps tomorrow. Also just noticed I forgot to say the CHECK ENGINE light is on.

LOL.....read out the error code by connecting the 2 black male/female spade connectors under the steering column.

Error 22 - Knock Sensor! Finally!!!!

Does this mean I need to move it as per lots of threads on google. or just straight replace it?

i decided to relocate the sensor cause its a bloody nightmare to get to,if you have no flexi joints n bars etc forget it.Thats of course if it is the sensor and not actually pinking. Mine would come on intermitantly and run rough, if its on stay off the boost. I have a few spare knock sensors kicking about if you want to borrow one to test it, they are hiddeous price from subaru

Nick - Thanks for the offer nick, Unfortunately I ordered one earlier today, will have it tomorrow!

Where abouts do people move it too? looking at the engine its right under the inlet manifold. will any spare threaded hole do on the engine block?

Also got a knock link fitted and thats showing green lights.

i moved mine about 2 inches closer to the drivers side and about an inch closer to firewall, there was a bracket or something in it so i removed and replaced the bolt to a longer one, as to the knock link im not sure what that does so.......
, anyhows moving it to this location did solve it for me, however its better to replace original position of possible obviously.

couple of things.. the maf test is complete bollox.. unplugging and it cuts out being okay is a complete myth that someone said years ago and was wrong and gets branded about the net.

if the tips on the old plugs were missing you may have damage to turbo and valves and pistons.. as they have to go somewhere.. lets hope they broke away a tiny bit at a time

SORTED!

Genuine knock sensor fitted after a bit of confusion with the sensor from the knock link lol.

Runs much better now, more positive and faster!

Now just gotta make the brakes work and i'll be enjoying it finally!
