Engine bay cleaning??
I like to think I've mastered the cleaning of the outside of the car (well nearly mastered it lol)
Next step is engine bay, what does everybody use for the dirt and grime in the engine bay i.e inlet manifold and all the plastic etc??. Is there one cleaner you can use for the whole engine?? or do you have to use different ones for different parts?? Also is there any parts which you don't touch or have to cover up?? (I'm guessing anything electrical) Thanks in advance Sam |
did mine the other day with Ron, cant remember the stuff he used but autoglym engine cleaner is good, use a brush to agitate and then cover the filters and alternator with kitchen foil first and then clean off with a jet wash
|
Lovely thanks Tim, I'll have a looksie at the autoglym one.
Did you cover up things like the boost solenoid, battery etc when you done yours?? |
Iv done mine a couple of times make sure you cover electrical connectors fuse box alternator.i used clingfilm and a bit of black tape
. Also only used hose to wash what ever product you use ,off. So i didnt force water in anywhere it shouldnt be :-). |

I use Autoglym stuff on mine Sam If/when I do clean it.. and a wheel brush! :) cover the electrics bits.. and rinse off with a hose or pressure washer from range.
Ask Ron for some more tips ;) |
Always used chemical guys degreaser - and then few brushes to work it in e.t.c. - then covered all leccy bits in cling film and jet washed the engine. always comes out ok...
|
Has anyone ever managed to properly clean up the Red STI inlet manifold? I've tried a few degreasers etc but can't seem to get a good finish.
|
As per my previous post really - a decent degreaser or all purpose cleaner and some good elbow grease with stiff bristled brushes and mine always seems to come up really well... could also try steam cleaning it but keep away from the rubber pipes...
