The Wagon

Just picked this up yesterday. It's only covered 77k and seems in pretty good nick. Only bad point is that it's got locking wheel nuts but no key, bugger!

It's standard apart from it possibly has a short shift but having only driven wagon_si s modified wagon, I have nothing to compare it to.

Was able to give it a clean today but it needs a good polish to get the swirl marks out.

Couple of questions - what's the little bit of trim on the front wing all about? The automatic lock on startup is rediculous. Anything I can do about that? Is that exhaust standard looking?

555_Si 16-02-2014 11:20 PM

Auto lock on startup? Locks the doors? Think that can be set using the alarm keypad under the dash to not be active, had some PDF somewhere that explained it, will try to dig out.

Bit of trim on front wing most people take off and put carbon over top of hole that is left or paint it same colour as car, Subaru lost the plot with the bugeye.

Scruff 16-02-2014 11:26 PM

Yep, the moment you start the engine, it locks the doors then you can't unlock them manually until you switch the engine off. Massive safety issue right there!

Mines got a purpley colour carbon bit. Looks nice but just didn't get the point.

The plan is to not spend money on it but I might not be able to help myself!

You can't own a Scoob and not spend money, I tried and look what happened, especially with this forum lol. It was supposed to be my daily driver.

Yeah but you've got about 8 cars. Your passat looks to be a perfect daily driver. I'll end up spending cash I know. I said the same about my last two imprezas.

i've bought some, but i'd be useless at fitting it myself and the weather is crap for titting about outside

Mortster 17-02-2014 07:37 AM

Its a bug takeover at the mo!

Banstead Stig 17-02-2014 08:57 AM

Nicely done sir!

Looks nice. My wife has a black blob wagon, so I am a touch biased!

That backbox doesn't look standard as, from memory, the standard exhaust on the Bug WRX was a twin pea-shooter.

Scruff 17-02-2014 09:19 AM

Riiidaa, the flyeyeskit stuff is rediculouly easy to use. It took me about half an hour to do the lights on my mr2 and they're not as straight forward as they look. I'll dig it out and have a go then report back.

Thanks Stig, Mortster. It's actually got a bluey/purpley colour to it in different light. It's Mica black apparently. Maybe that'll be a bit more obvious when I've given it a polish. I've got a clay kit that's been in my shed for about 3 years... maybe I'll try that.

Mortster 17-02-2014 09:51 AM

The colour code is O8V, and is actually blue, most people call it blue black. Looks amazing in the sun, if we ever see it.

bigh221 17-02-2014 10:01 AM

Nice clean looking example you have there

I did have a link from a SIDC thread but it wont let me load probably as I`m not a member  Remember it was on their stolen link I think and the topic was locking on start-up, it was definately done from the keypad, sorry I know thats not much help but plenty of experts on here so I`m sure someone will know?

RE: Lock on start up, this is one for Super DON

riiidaa 17-02-2014 07:30 PM

actually, been researching and it seems you might have a Sigma m30 alarm - one of the functions it can perform is auto-lock, i have a .doc copy of the instructions

riiidaa 17-02-2014 07:41 PM

do you have the sigma m30 alarm, with a keypad on the dash somewhere, possibly in the lower dash by yer knee - if so click

Scruff 17-02-2014 08:00 PM

Wow, look at all the stuff it does!! Nice one Riiidaa! Very appreciated :) Yes, keypad is where the little pocket should be in front of the fuses.

Today I got these flipping things off with a big socket, a bigger hammer and an even bigger breaker bar. There was 4 but one seems to have gone walkies. Thanks to CJ for the new nuts!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...pski7cqinr.jpg

And went to fit this but found my centre pipe is pretty rotten so will hopefully be picking up another soon.

scotty 04-03-2014 08:47 PM

That's it started no going back now looking better already .:ok:

Scruff 04-03-2014 09:22 PM

Haha! Intentions are just to go for looks and handling. I'm not intent on mucking about with the engine.... apart from an sti top mount..... and maybe some dress up bits.... and a dump valve until i get tired of the tish noise... but thats all!

riiidaa 04-03-2014 10:01 PM

flyeyekit, hurry up

plz :)

555_Si 04-03-2014 10:19 PM

lol, you have done exactly what I did when I started. Look where it lead me!

I found my stuff earlier today actually so i'll give it a go next weekend. Some of it has come away from the plasticy backing that its supplied on so i don't know if it'll go sticky again. Might go with a hairdryer. Watch this space.

Si - I know mate. i'm still saying no engine stuff though :) Its uneconomical enough as it is for a daily driver. Loving the burble from the japspeed. Very pleased with it.

riiidaa 05-03-2014 01:18 PM

my understanding is you need the heat to release the glue anyway, if you don't have enough i'm sure i've bought plenty to get you out of trouble, perhaps you can do mine in an exchange of help ;)

Scruff 05-03-2014 03:44 PM

Not sure if you can get lights like this but didn't have enough flyeyeskit stuff to cover the whole of both tail lights so ended up with this which I really like. I think all black might have been too much on a blacky/bluey car. Riidaa, I'd be happy to give yours a go mate. Yes it's sticky anyway but a bit of heat sort of renews it, it also gives it a bit of stretch too. It's very easy to split the stuff when cold.

Decide to modify/hack my grill:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psovmceg1b.jpg

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psb4mj31m1.jpg

Think the bits in the bottom corners need to stay as they have the clips behind them.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psqptyn3zd.jpg

And thats as far as i've got tonight. Will haev to not drive too closr to the car in front on my way home. Will get some mesh of some sort to go behind tomorrow then give it all a spray :)

Hongkongfooi 06-03-2014 06:41 AM

the modding bug is strong isnt it. nice work:ok:

riiidaa 06-03-2014 12:31 PM

most aftermarket mesh looks cack, pick wisely

Scruff 06-03-2014 03:50 PM

HKF - true dat! I can't help myself. I'm enjoying the DIY cheap jobs for now. Painted calipers soon. Gonna have some bushes to replace I think so need to put a bit of cash to one side.

Nearly there! Basic galvanised mesh. Riiidaa, I know what you mean, I don't want it to be in your face so once I've rubbed the outer bit down, I'll stick the mesh in and spray the lot black, then I've got a new badge to attach :)

Ginola 09-03-2014 10:38 PM

I do like a nice wagon, liking the job you did with grill good stuff!!

Scruff 18-03-2014 01:48 PM

Mortster was kind enough to donate an STI splitter to see if I could cut it about to fit my wagon. Turns out the saloon and wagon bumper really aren't that different. Just needed a bit of filler, bit of strengthening, some colour and new holes drilled et voila:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psot1nfp1e.jpg

Granted it's probably not meant to stick out so much at the sides but it I think it follows the lines of the side skirts really well. Very pleased :)

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psugpoha19.jpg

Steve_PPP 18-03-2014 06:39 PM

Nice job there :)

C. J. 18-03-2014 06:48 PM

Nice one :)

Mortster 18-03-2014 07:40 PM

Nice one, turned out ok then. :ok:

Scruff 18-03-2014 07:47 PM

Yes it has Nick, thank you for the splitter. I think it's completely changed the look of the car., certainly improved its looks anyway :)

Ginola 18-03-2014 09:52 PM

looks spot on :)

Matt23 18-03-2014 10:19 PM

Looks great mate:ok:

scotty 18-03-2014 11:42 PM

Total transformation just by adding the splitter looking good scruff .

SamSTI 19-03-2014 07:15 AM

Looking good :)

Scruff 23-03-2014 08:40 PM

Thanks all. Got myself some fog light covers and thought it might be nice to inject a bit of colour sooooo came up with this:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psrug2blru.jpg

I know, state of my microwave, tea coffee and sugar pots, work top etc ;)

Scruff 24-03-2014 02:51 PM

Haven't quite worked out how to attach the covers to the car yet :|

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...pszq0akmwg.jpg

Scruff 28-03-2014 07:13 PM

Decided I needed a boost gauge and found a pro sport evo on ebay for £25!! Not bad considering it should have been £65 new. Thought it should go somewhere a bit different so armed with a hacksaw blade and some side cutters:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps00vztzap.jpg

Didn't quite fit :|

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...pscjpxfoey.jpg

Decided to offset it a bit to angle it round toward my eye view then cut out the ratchety bit:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...pstez1uweo.jpg

Cut a hole at the back and drilled a hole further back in the ducting to feed the wire down:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psoqmtktwz.jpg

It's in :D

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...psllqr3ftj.jpg

Not wired up yet though.
