Future West Sussex meet

Been in touch with Pt Off Windust, who has some ideas about suitable venues in the Arundel area. Hopefully he will re-iterate the info on here and it can be discussed and a decision made.

With regard to meets etc in this area, would you be after a 'pub' style meet in car park etc, or just somewhere to meet in mass then move on from there? It would obviously depend on numbers, I know the area very well and there are some very nice locations, but may not cater for a large group of noisy cars.. lol. Pub wise, to name a few... Arundel would be fairly central, i.e. on the A27 with places like the well known Black Rabbit, Riverside pub with a 'cat walk' style road leading to the car park (goes right between the entrance and the outdoor seating area - so plenty of onlookers - try not to stall!!), there is a Harvester/Beefeater at Crossbush (Jason knows this one I believe) again, practically on the A27, there is a nice pub at Patching called the Worlds End, again just off the A27 between Worthing and Arundel. As far as car parks are concerned, I can think of a few - so let me know what criteria you'd be after.. hope that helps anyway...

We'll all need diesels at this rate - lol. No, seriously all of this looks good to me. For what its worth, when choosing a pub, can it, if poss have some sort of facilities for family/kids etc. The Old mill was great in this respect as it has a park next to it, so the mrs and kids dont get bored. I think alot of us can only get to the meets on the basis there is something to do for them the other end, and its more of a day out. Personally I cant see why you would need a park etc when you have a load of cars to look at, but there we go - thats kids for ya! I do try to leave them at home every few meets!

With regards to the Black Rabbit (a very nice pub), everytime i've been down there it has been soooooo busy i've had to park up miles away from it.

Hi Steve

Good point!

Family/kids are an essential bit of what this club is all about. After all, the "older" element are most likely to have family commitments. The "young tearaways" are better catered for by SussexScoobies, where the moderators are young and handsome.

Some thoughts from the Squadron Leader

Pubs for meets....

The Crossbush is excellent for roast dinners, but does get busy and I think you have to book on Sunday. Car park is large enough with a reserve one round the back that's part of a Travel Lodge type thing.

Never been to the Pub in Patching, but driven past it. Bit like the Bolney Stag as there's a long road up to it where you could probably park on the road. I think there's a large car park too.

Both are easy to get to from A27.

Some thoughts from Pt Off "Washout" Windust:

With regard to meets, crossbush or patching may be a good location. As far as kiddies areas go, I'm not sure what either have to offer, I'll look into it for you. I've given a couple of links below for now to get the ball rolling. I'm in the process of rattling my brain for somewhere that would have both a pub, big car park, and large play park area. Although it may be easier to just go somewhere that has a play park and not worry about the pub element. Really I suppose we would need somewhere we could all go inside if it did start to rain a touch....

Crossbush:

Patching:
Worlds End: http://www.pubguide.info/pub.php?pubid=21

Arundel:
Black Rabbit: http://www.hall-woodhouse.co.uk/pubs/fa ... rabbit.asp
Location wise, I'm sure that depending on the family and children, there is a childrens park area about 10min walk back toward the castle, as well as swanbourne lake for walks and you can also access the path along the riverside for walks as well. My biggest concern would be what time of year we would intend to go there. As summer gets very very busy. Winter is usually fairly dead. Again, time of day and year would play a role in the parking arrangements.

Alternatively there is always this...
Littlehampton:
http://www.harvester.co.uk/find-a-harve ... mpton.html
This is a Harvester, it has a very large car park and is right next to harbour park and the river. Harbour park is a glorified amusement park to spend the parents cash, there are mini golfs etc nearby (summer months only) and the promenade to wonder along etc etc. This would be an ideal spot with things ot do, as the acr park is large enought to cater for a full meet etc. The only thing is I would not attempt this in the summer months, unless it was toward the evening due to how busy the beach gets. I'll try and get some pics for you...
http://www.harbourpark.com/pages/places_to_visit.php
The pub is direct above the car park on the left of the picture...

The only other thing I can think of is whether we head worthing or north brighton like devils dyke etc?? Still not too far away for us Westy's...

Let me know you're thoughts... Otherwise you know what its like, when you've lived somewhere for so long, it doesn't quite have that spark it used to...

Evening all,

Sorry its taken a while. Have been thinking though...

To concur with Squadron leader, The Crosbush would probably be a good venue, and should be quite central too.

I have been looking at the Worlds End, Patching, and it seems to be turning out to be quite good... Just off A27, easy to find, good amount of parking etc etc..

If we did decide to go for this one, I feel there is plenty of parking, the food has always been quite good in my books, and there is a play area in the garden, or walks around the lake or next to the stream...

Some food for thought... Let me know what you think...

Rich
