Quinton Stages Rally, Wales (very pic heavy!)

Yes, i realise this wasn't an SES event and that rallying might not be everyones cup of tea, but i know theres a few on here who like nothing more than getting out in the forests and whacked round the head by flying stones

Bit of a crazy day out - left Burgess Hill at 1:30am, arrived in mid-Wales just before 5am. Had a couple of hours kip in the car, then out on stages all day before the long drive back. Over £100 in VPower used in 1 day :( But at least it was free to get into all the stages!

So.... photos!

I'll start with some pics taken from the Halfway stage:

Really pleased with how well some of the ones of Steve Perez came out, they look great even after they've been sized down for web!

Anyone here fancy a day out watching a rally in the future? The next one near here is the Tempest Rally based in Aldershot and Longmoor in November - and its quite a bit closer than Wales!

belliott 13-07-2010 09:26 PM

i will be going to the tempest as i've never been to watch rallying yet i love it. the 306 keeps looking better every time i see it and its nice to see a couple of minis at it as well.

MIDLIFE 13-07-2010 09:30 PM

Cracking photos, must go to a rally stage as it looks a great day out, I think I spotted a nissan micra in one of the pics?

Went to the Tempest last year - pretty good rally. Wouldn't recommend the Rushmoor Arena spectator stage though, bit mickey mouse affair in my opinion.

Andy Burton's 306 Cosworth is insane, he was running ahead of Steve Perez in the 2007 WRC Focus (Gronholm's old car) for a lot of the day before retiring. And yeah, the mini's were great fun

There were a few of them out there in the under 1400cc class, MGs, Rovers, a Proton , Yaris's, Corsas/Novas, Polos - allsorts really!

Micras probably not a bad car to learn to rally in - cheap to buy spare panels for i expect!

Cracking pics Steve, love the rear shot of the Scoob (T22 SRT)

Superb stuff :10:

You know you're spectatingly proper motorsport when you're dodging the cars and bits of the track!

Worzel has beaten me to it, but that shot of T22 SRT on Route 60 is superb - the rest are rather good as well!

Hell yeah! The Tempest website has been down for a while, but I assume its still on. As you say its not worth bothering with the arena stage this year, will just head straight out into the forests.

Belliott, you have to break your rally cherry and come and spectate!

Scott.T 14-07-2010 01:09 PM

Nice pics and a good event for next year

Bit of luck that one, i only took a handful of shots as they cars were driving away from me - most of the spots i was spectating from you couldn't see the car in the dust cloud as soon as it went past!

:agreed:

All sorts of planning can go into shots, yet the "lucky" one turns out to be a winner.

I have just posted a series of pictures on a photography website, planned landscapes, panoramics, arty ones etc. But the one picture that has got the most interest is a candid shot, fired literally from knee height. It was a pure last second spot which somehow framed itself just as though it was planned.

This is the one

Hi and welcome to SES

As you were running towards the end of the field, i was into the process of moving on to the next stage by the time you came past each time. However, i did get a couple of quick ones as i was walking back to the car on SS1 :) But they were pretty much point and click jobs as you came past!

I've sent you an email with the photos attached :)

Steve_PPP 14-07-2010 10:16 PM

just to add, looks like hotmail rejected my email as its too large - resent them individually so hopefully you get those!

You should be working for a mag mate. Photos are very good.

Cheers mate, i'm really chuffed with them as well. Wouldn't know where to start though with being able to make some money from it!
