05 black blobeye ppp

I don't feel like this is a project, just little mods to make it my own - so i thought i'd stick this thread in here :)

Got the car March this year.

2005 black blobeye with the Prodrive performance pack.

Mud & dust

Blackened headlights, no splitter at this point - I had to remove it for the mud

Recently fitted a gauge pod, only got a clock in it at the moment, boost gauge in the post.

This may not be the best way, but it worked for me...

This is where I took the power from for the gauges, it's the plug for the clock -

Top to bottom:

Earth
Lights on
Ignition on

Soldered additional wire on the end of the Prosport plug, firstly to add strength and secondly to make sure the scotch locks got a good contact. Shrink wrap to keep tidy and protect -

In theory, you should be able to connect one of the cables to the lights cable on the clock plug, but it wouldn't work for me. So I used the cig lighter instead. Green wire is the one I needed.

http://i.imgur.com/rpKW4Ga.jpg

After I had connected the rest of the wires to the plug using scotch locks, I covered in corresponding tape so it's easier to identify which is which in the future.

You can also see in the background where I extended the cables for the alarm LED - my LED is broken though, so I need a new one.

This is it so far, just a clock haha :)

Ignition on, lights off

Next gauge is a boost gauge, not sure what to use as the third yet so I ordered a 52mm blank.

Plans -

Tint the windows
Different wheels, in black
STI dial cluster
Refit a splitter
Impreza car mats
New mud guards
STI bonnet scoop & intercooler
Fit Hella horns

Thanks!
Foz

Nice work :)

Either oil temp or oil pressure for the other one.

Bytes 24-07-2014 10:35 PM

Looking good & always helpful to have a detailed record of your work :)

... just don't cut the red one :-D

Foz50 25-07-2014 08:52 PM

Thanks guys :)

Yeah I'm thinking an oil temp gauge would be best, already have the stock oil pressure - regardless it's very bad times if the pressure drops.

Replacement splitter arrived and fitted today -

Looks very nice

Soooooo much better with a splitter.

Where's the mud and dirt photo taken, looks military?

Made some more progress with gauges this evening, took much longer than I thought it would.

However, now I have a Prosport clock and a Motor Meter boost gauge - exactly the same style just a different logo. Somewhat annoying, as the gauges don't match now (just the logo) so I'll have to fix that next pay day.

I located the boost sensor behind the glove box. There was a spare bolt at the top and I had some nuts laying around.

Boost pipe goes through the grommet to the rear of the glove box.

Not pictured, but tied all the pipe and cables back to keep them out the way. Also a cable comes out of the top of this into the back of the gauge.

Here is where I put the t-piece. Only concern is that it's plastic, and it gets quite hot so it could melt. I might have to look at getting a metal one to replace it.

Couldn't really hide it away, as the pipe to the DV was tight as it was.

As mentioned in the previous post, I broke my old LED.

Bought a new one off eBay, drilled a hole in my pod and glued it in. I decided not to use a bezel around the LED as I think it looks much neater and less obvious (When LED is off).

As with all the cables, I made them so that I can remove the lot if I need to. These are for the LED. Later wrapped in insulation tape.

Got a 52mm blank to match the dials until I get a third. Can barely see the LED :) You can see the different logos here...

Also out of curiosity, what boost should I be getting on a PPP WRX?

According to the gauge i'm hitting 20PSI - is that normal/right?

Thanks,
Foz

Fitted the Hella Supertones this evening.

Didn't take many pictures of the progress.

Had to make a few wires up.
  • One from relay to live (with inline fuse).
  • One from relay to earth.
  • One from the relay to the Hellas, 2 connectors at one end (for each horn)
  • One from the Hellas to earth, again 2 connectors at one end.
  • Final wire was the one from the original horns connected up to the relay.

Live with fuse -

Earth for relay and horns -

http://i.imgur.com/HtInRoC.jpg

Relay with just live (left) and earth (right) connected. I located this in a free hole above the near side headlight -

http://i.imgur.com/Mr9hyLQ.jpg

Relay all connected, not very clear but the top is the original horn connector, and bottom is to the horns -

http://i.imgur.com/bKE8j8F.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/jd5xOJe.jpg

Bolted in and connected up. Used some extra washers to space them back a bit so that they didn't hit the grill. Wires tidied up since pictures too! -

http://i.imgur.com/4dUY5Tl.jpg

Final product - They're incredibly loud!

However I did knock over my box of connectors

Rear brakes needed replacing, so I bought discs and pads for front and rear from godspeed - quick delivery and well packed. No complaints there!

Only replaced the rear brakes for now, waiting on a fitting kit for the fronts.

Old Vs New

Rear fitted

Fitted an STI scoop

http://i.imgur.com/CESYl8O.jpg

Also I wanted to be able to control when my gauges change colour.

I got a 3 way switch. Off for white, one way for red, and the other way for "auto" - which works off the lights - Lights off = white, lights on = red.

Need to find some way to secure the switch nicely, might cut down a piece of plastic to fit in place of the ash tray.

Thanks

http://i.imgur.com/N5p9Heg.jpg

Made up a little plastic plate for my switch, and for any future switches.

Also washed and polished but didn't take pics, not sure why.

Bought a snow foam lance - Great fun!

I've removed the orange plastic from my headlights and replaced the indicator bulbs with chrome ones - I think the front end looks loads better.

Really want a new set of wheels.

Ginola 14-09-2014 06:53 PM

So now I have Oil temp, Oil pressure and Boost.

Also got some new wheels! Was looking for Rotas but these came up and they were a bargain. 18x8 - looks loads better. Needs to be a bit lower now though.
