Currently in Queenstown, New Zealand which must be the home of the Subaru wagon. Say 8 of them yesterday evening walking back to our hotel. All of them looked like they had had a hard life.

Arn't the number of roads actually finished with tarmac there on the limited side, away from big cities?

No, all roads are terraced and in excellent condition. 95% are single lane with the odd passing place and slower vechiles are really good at pulling in to let you pass. To be honest other than big cities their is so little traffic driving is a pleasure.
