World Rallycross Championship R4 – Lydden Hill
Just a week after the third round at Mettet, the World Rallycross Championship came to the UK for its fourth round at Lydden Hill.
I was there. I had a camera. You know what’s coming next… https://farm1.staticflickr.com/524/1...80a091d9_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/524/1...fce41fa7_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/293/1...f5dc0a2d_b.jpg Tanner Foust was back once again, but it wasn’t to be his weekend. He looked well off the pace on day one and only started to speed up late on day two. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/562/1...905b78df_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/327/1...1c9acdeb_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/315/1...f0e8e458_b.jpg PG Andersson is rapidly becoming my fave driver of the year: he doesn’t seem able to go round a corner without getting massively sideways! https://farm1.staticflickr.com/541/1...6ffe0121_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/356/1...7b787e08_b.jpg There were loads of British entries in the Supercars, including reigning British Champion Julian Godfrey, current British Championship points leader Andy Scott and BTCC driver Andrew Jordan. It was rally driver Guy Wilks who did best though, making it as far as the final before a puncture ended his day. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/450/1...d79ae423_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/260/1...955ee1b9_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/325/1...a0b79016_b.jpg The gaps in the timetable were filled with some demo runs from some of the British Drift Championship regulars… https://farm1.staticflickr.com/339/1...a98343db_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/511/1...0e6df9e0_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/264/1...9d73de5d_b.jpg …and some racing from the Retro Rallycross Challenge. As the only four wheel drive car in the pack, Rob Gibson dominated the Retro races in his Metro 6R4. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/369/1...aa948ca0_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/428/1...eda80ab1_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/522/1...584d1ece_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/510/1...cafb9b57_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/272/1...571d2605_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/433/1...d85beb3b_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/291/1...b2d29e4d_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/387/1...dfff675e_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/294/1...2fbdae0e_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/513/1...080cdc32_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/539/1...20145f87_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/389/1...eb740396_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/380/1...488fb1a5_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/548/1...36d6d65d_b.jpg Kevin Hansen won the RX Lites. He was fast in the heats and only one driver really challenged him in the final. Very impressive driving and (like the rest of the Hansen clan) I suspect he’ll be quick in a Supercar as well. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/504/1...2789f8bb_b.jpg https://farm1.staticflickr.com/279/1...6fd5e7d7_b.jpg Petter Solberg dominated the first day, but an issue in the third heat slowed him down a bit. The car was fixed by the final though and he timed his joker lap perfectly to beat Mattias Ekstrom. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/363/1...1d619aaa_b.jpg Third for Kristoffersson means he still holds second in the Championship, but with Solberg extending his points lead again he is going to be hard to catch. Brilliant weekend of racing, can’t wait to get back to Lydden for more rallycross later in the year! |
