Advice on some new tyres
 

Rather than trailing through a ton of reports online about different vehicles, I'd like some feedback from actual Subaru owners.

225/45/R18 is the size.

Need something that's good in the wet. The roads around here are god damn awful in the rain and at the moment, the tyres on the back can make me spin out at less than 20mph around a roundabout.

I normally opt for Goodyear Eagle F1's but thought I'd broaden my horizons. Stu at TFS recommended Yokohama Advan Sport V103S tyres, but his supplier wanted a high price for R18 size.

Ideally no more than around £400-£450 for a set of 4. Not worried if fitting isn't included in the price, can get that sorted.

The car is running around 350bhp. The brakes are about to be uprated as well, so want some decent tyres to go with it.

Shouldn't they be 40 profile buddy?

Vredestein Sessanta/Nankang NS-2R or Yokohama AD08R have driven with all,superb grip levels especially the last two in the dry,but can all perform well in the wet also.SJ.

If you like the F1's stick with them .
Any of the semi- slicks won't be as good in the rain .

just because that's what you have on there now doesn't make it right

to be sure, i always check what it was on from factory with a rolling radius calc to get the closest RR with what you're going for

Try http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/ for prices their very competitive,but just make sure that they have them in stock or you could be in for a long wait.C.J there is nothing wrong with the semi slicks that I have mentioned in the wet they perform superb,but I do agree that a road tyre has more focus on the wet weather,the Vredestein Sessanta that I mentioned before sounds like a tyre choice that could be right for the OP,but alot depends on use whether it is a weekend toy or a everyday car.SJ.

225/40/18 would be much closer to factory RR .. not sure who put 45's on there but its wrong, speedo will be miles out.

Eagle F1's are great for all round round use and wet weather track work they are hard to beat however the design is a few years old now, I wonder what a set of Michelin pilot super sports would be like as a direct comparison. tyre reviews seem to like them this year. I know a few folk are running them on various "other" motors ;)

Read the op's first post again. His asked for good rain tyres not track tyres .
I've used most semi slicks there ok but not a patch on F1's for rain .

225/40/18 would be the right size for a Subaru not saying that you could not make do with the 45 profile they are more money though,but usually the 45 profile would be for a 17 inch wheel 215/45/17.SJ.

Just read the first post again,my bad:mrgreen:You have a point:) F1's are good but the Vredestein Sessanta I have found to be superb in the wet,but as you said before if its not broke and if the OP loves the driving feel of them stick with them.SJ.

It's just what I've used before. My first Subaru had them on and I found them good and reliable, then I went away from performance cars for a while, so just wanted to know what's good for Subaru's these days and whether the eagle f1's are still a good option.

I don't plan on tracking the car and I don't really get to put my foot down in it much to be honest. It's my daily drive (7 miles ha) but soon to become a weekend only car. So I'm just after some good tyres that aren't going to fade out too quickly and given winters approaching and the roads near me being god awful, something that's going to have some good grip in the wet.

225/45/18 is the standard tyre size for the FSTi, so does seem a bit much profile for the Impreza.

Mrs Stig has Eagles on her Impreza and I'm impressed with them.

If it ain't broke and all that!

Shall go for the 40 profile.

I'm running the P Zeros on the Legacy and find then excellent, wet or dry.

The Hankooks I have on the Impreza are also very capable wet or dry but definitely more a dry orientated tyre!

Went for the GoodYear Eagle F1's in the end. Cheapest option out of the 4, great reviews for wet grip.

£367 total for 4x 225/40/R18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 including a free tracking check. I've opted for a £60 4 wheel alignment as well for peace of mind (it's been pot hole central around here lately).
