Classic ABS light.....

Got a friend with a 98 classic and the ABS light has come on, is there a way of reading the fault codes without a dealer scanner?

What is the manual way of checking the sensors? My A.B.S light keeps on going on and off.?

ABS isn't off the main ECU, so not sure how to connect a lappy or tool.

Re: Classic ABS light.....

There is a 6 pin plug under the dash up by the steering colunm with 2 test leads attached to it.....

Stop the vehicle and turn the ignition OFF.
Place one of the test wires into terminal 6 of the plug.
Turn ignition ON. Codes will be flashed on the ABS light.
Read codes.
Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.
The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.
A long pause separates each code sequence.
Once every code has been displayed the code sequence repeats.
No faults indicated by continuous flashes of .6 seconds.

Example : 2 long flashes followed by 2 short flashes = code 22
