RAF Museum Hendon
Ended up here today for a few hours trying to kill some time, well worth a visit, only a few pics from my phone I'm afraid.
The UKs first aircraft factory, now contains all the WW1 aviation exhibits: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2876/3...4cde9b11_b.jpg Obviously the Short Wheel Base Version of this one https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2911/3...b62abfc6_b.jpg The original switch panel from the entrance to the factory, the owner liked to show off how much power the machines were using, quite the opposite to today https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2931/3...374f9689_b.jpg More effective than a set of cheap Coilovers https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2875/3...b7d94bb4_b.jpg Interesting view of a radial engine crank shaft (should have used a flash) https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2883/3...4ed06a9d_b.jpg Lovely P-51 Mustang https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2824/3...0422c790_b.jpg Interestingly coloured Buccaneer https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2935/3...b76eb2ff_b.jpg A Harrier, no idea what variant https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2901/3...38d6f39b_b.jpg Landing Gear Mechanism on a Tornado, I took this because I have the user refusing to fly his UAV because there is some chipped paint on the towing hitch bracket https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2897/3...b8c035dd_b.jpg Pre Production Typhoon, pretty sure there's probably one of Scotts early black boxes tucked away in here https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2902/3...a69c417e_b.jpg Gloucester Meteor, familiar to anyone that used to drive past St Leonards Motors https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2883/3...ff0c3fea_b.jpg Mortal Enemies. There are lots of different spitfires if they're your thing, you can even pay £10 to sit in one. https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2904/3...4c967f0c_b.jpg Vulcan Bomb Bay https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2808/3...2817837a_b.jpg Can't remember what it was but it came from the bottom of a lake https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2950/3...304e77fd_b.jpg Who remembers this from the RAF recruitment advert? https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2859/3...0f53de17_b.jpg |
Looks like an amazing day out - love the model from the advert :ok:

Typhoon ZH588 is one or the original development aircraft.
It was used extensively in alot of media/photographs but in its original grey colour. http://img15.deviantart.net/289c/i/2...35-da3637v.jpg |
Nice selection of photos.
Definitely a good way to kill a couple of hours... beats kicking about in Heathrow, that's for certain! |
Nice photos, looks an interesting place. Typhoon looks great in the darker colour, whats with the cockerel emblem on it?
|
I'm defo going to have to get over there
|
Is the Vulcan still in there?
|
Was when I last was there.
I can't see it moving anytime soon. |

It would take a lot of work to get it out, it's quite well embedded in amongst everything else.
|
nice! Will go there to check it out.
There is another great place to visit, Tank Museum at Bovington. Highly recommend for those who hasn't been there. |
Great museum. Haven't been there for a few years, but they had a lot of aircraft packed in.

Excellent photos, as I remember it being quite dark in there last time I was there! |
All shot on my old Galaxy S6 in point and shoot mode, now I have the S8 I've given up carrying a camera.
