Imperial War Museum Duxford

Well after the morning at Auto Finesse I took the opportunity to run 30 minutes up the M11 to Duxford, not been since I was about 12 and although I've driven past a few times I'd not had the opportunity to stop. Great day out but not cheap so buy tickets in advance and take a picnic if you're making it a family day out.

There was a lot to fit in in the time I had so didn't take loads of photos

It's not all aircraft, they have a huge hall of land land based military equipment from WW1 up to kit that has come back from Afghanistan

This was quite interesting, it's the engine from a Sherman tank, it's actually five 6 cylinder engines joined together.

This was giving pleasure flights, sound on take off was amazing

Missed this one flying as was in one of the hangers but certainly heard it

Victor is slowly being restored, will be great to see it along side the Vulcan when it's finished.

Great stuff, went as a kid but haven't since. Looks worth a visit, although i suspect it isn't Claire/Ellies' cup of tea....!

Looks great place to go and spend a day :ok:

It was good but if you want better value and something a bit closer I'd recommend the RAF museum at Hendon and Imperial War Museum in London as both are free to get into although they do obviously encourage donations.

It's not my families idea of fun either hence why I took the opportunity to go up yesterday, my brother was hoping to have come but his wife had to work all weekend.

It's truly a great place.
We stopped there on way back from holiday one year.
Arrived about 11 and got kicked out at 1830, the last military vehicle hanger being a bit of a rush.
Was good to see Typhoon ZH588 development aircraft too, no doubt with some of our old kit on it

Haven't been to Duxford for a few years, but they have a superb selection of aircraft there.

The restoration hangar is properly cool, nearly always something interesting being assembled in there!
