Coopers at Stone Cross near Eastbourne, £3.65 for a carvery and if we get there early plenty of parking spaces:doubleup:

Steve_PPP 07-01-2010 09:27 PM

Its great value for money but Sussex often seem to have their East meets there and i don't think we should visit the same place too often - part of the reason i think some members (well, certainly me ;)) are willing to travel to meets is to try out new places/pubs and see some new parts of Sussex

AndyWRX 08-01-2010 09:26 AM

The Mill House in salfords near redhill, its got a big carpark and a restaurant but also does bar food aswell if you didnt want to go in the restaurant, its not expensive but its not cheap either but its well worth it

worzel 08-01-2010 10:51 AM

I would like to propose the following venues to go on the meets rota.

(Not child friendly meals in RED)

Laughing Fish (Isfield)
Dunnings Mill (East Grinstead)

Treacle Mines (Eastbourne)
Smith & Western (T Wells / Horsham)
Knights Park (T Wells)
The Hop Farm (Paddock Wood)
The Galleon (Cuckmere)
Six Bells (Chiddingly)
The Woodman (Ide Hill)
The Cock Inn (Nr Ringmer)
The Bull Inn (Henfield)

BIG"E" 08-01-2010 11:12 AM

Great stuff!!

keep the ideas coming.

Steve_PPP 08-01-2010 11:30 AM

some good ideas there Worzel

The Treacle Mine at Polegate was a good pub and had a decent turnout last time we went there. The Cock Inn is also a great place for food but last time i went there it was a bit expensive (definately worth it for a nice evening out, but maybe a bit much for a meet?)

Hongkongfooi 08-01-2010 11:35 AM

How about a breakfast meet somewhere? Maybe the Chalet on the A281 (west part of area)

Scooby Wez 08-01-2010 11:51 AM

The Hop Farm is a good one.I have been there in the past with other car clubs loads of parking. They also have a large kids play area they do food but can not comment on that as i took my Sandwiches/Drinks with me :getmecoat: I realy liked the Laughing Fish (Isfield) with the parking out the back i know the food is not for kid's but there is the steam trains there so if there is a meet there in the summer i would bring the kids along picnic by the car then ride on the train they would love it.

I have looked at this venue several times as a possible.
Trouble is they nearly always have an event of some description on.

Definitely one to bare in mind.

Scooby Wez 08-01-2010 12:10 PM

The club i went with had there meet on a sunday evening.Used to get there about 5 and if the car park was full they let us use the field out the front great for photo shoots had Fast Ford there one night. The pub is separate from the main hop farm irc.

You are correct mate, big car park there too. It's a Brewers Fayre, so not top notch grub but not bad at the same token.

Good idea. Early morning start empty weekend roads.

where is it ??

Chunk 08-01-2010 12:56 PM

Box Hill is a good one. Huge car park at the top, with a food area & the famous Rykers cafe at the bottom

Not best winter time

Claire_PPP 08-01-2010 01:11 PM

The Fox & Hounds in Haywards Heath Has a pretty big carpark and does decent enough grub. It's a chain pub, but the prices are good and there's lots of space inside.

The Cock at Ringmer could be a nice one for the summer - it's usually got plenty of tables outside and space for kids to run around.

Anger 08-01-2010 01:26 PM

Is this SouthEast scoobies or Sussex scoobies ??? lol

Any ideas?

Are you sure you are looking at the brewer's fair Pub and not the actual hop farm itself.
BROOKERS OAST

Hop Farm, Beltring, Paddock Wood, Tonbridge, Kent,
TN12 6PY

Scooby Wez 09-01-2010 12:04 AM

Box hill spent lot's of happy Sundays there on the Bikes.Rykers cafe now i do not take my Sandwiches there

DukeBoy 09-01-2010 04:41 PM

Think we need more ideas from people over the west part of the county, all the suggestions are swaying towards east me thinks. If i was a drinker i'd be able to help out with a few suggestions, but not being a pub man i can't......sorry guys.

SpecB 09-01-2010 05:09 PM

How about:
  • Fox goes free - Goodwood/Chichester
  • The Fox - Angmering on A27
  • The Woodmans - Angmering on A27
  • The old stables - Fontwell on A27
  • The Oystercatcher - Clymping/Littlehampton on A259
  • The spur - Slindon on A29
These are all far west of the region - in fact further west than the West Sussex meets!

It's what we need mate for sure. We can only arrange meets all over, if we have places to go to.

Keep them coming people :yeah:

Some great suggestions there mate. Something for everyone me thinks.

Kei Man 12-01-2010 08:34 PM

Fully agree with Box Hill, only trouble is often you can't get into the car park by Ryka's on a sunday as it is full of bikes.Possible Stepping stones at Westhumble.
Well to the west of the area I know but maybe our Littlehampton friends could confirm space- the Oyster Catcher pub on the Bognor road, just past Ford. Sunday morning be good one for this- Drop other halves at the Market and then down to the Pub after.:five:
Smith and Western Horsham or the one on the top of Boxhill good but not for the faint hearted food wise- large portions.
The Round stone? between Littlehampton and Worthing- large carpark.
Dukes Head Beare Green - parking for about 25 cars max New people running it , will cater for Kids, dogs if on a lead and well behaved. A24 Dual Carriage way right outside:doubleup::doubleup:

A couple for the West meet.....

The Black Horse in Findon....
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs...k_Horse/Findon
http://www.mountainrangerestaurants....uk/blackhorse/

The Worlds End....
http://www.pub-explorer.com/wsussex/...ndpatching.htm

Although some of the reviews i read about Worlds End weren't 100% but until you try you never know.

SpecB 25-01-2010 06:59 AM

I'll pop up to Worlds End and the BLack horse soon for a nose about, I used to go to the Back horse quite a bit but that was before it was taken over. Parking at the Worlds End is very good (used to have Club GTi meets there) Black horse is a little tight.

Scott.T 25-01-2010 08:24 AM

Robin Hood, BlueBell Hill (Maidstone/Rochester) Large Car park, lots of outside seating.
http://www.therobinhood-pub.co.uk/index.cfm?pageID=2

Stopped there on the way to BAE Systems. Had a loverly Burger and Chips.

Scott.T 05-02-2010 08:32 PM

Have heard that Bosham at the far South West reach of the area is a nice spot.
Done a quick search and come up with :
with reviews like :

"Probably the best pub on the south coast‎"
"This pub is great for a lovely summers evening, its has a nice patio out the front where the tide comes up to and out the back on the quaint high st a relaxing beer garden"

The Anchor Bleu High Street, Bosham, Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 8LS

Gotta be worth a look abnd could even be combined with a GoodWood Breakfast Club event

SpecB 05-02-2010 08:35 PM

Just be careful parking at the anchor, unless your car floats that is!

Yeh have heard the tide comes in so best check the tide times.
Have you been, what are your thoughts and whats it like for parking ?

Scott.T 05-02-2010 08:47 PM

What about the Black Rabbit in Arundel.
Food is supposed to be good according to some work collegues that stop there on business.

Very nice pub/food.......very very very busy though, never get parked there in the summer months.

SpecB 06-02-2010 09:15 AM

Parking is in a pay and display down the road or on the small streets or in the harbour at low tide!
If people are happy to go that far there are lot's of nice places around Chichester/Goodwood and on the Harbour.

tbtstt 15-07-2010 12:20 PM

Not sure if this is too late - or to far East - but a couple more suggestions:

Grasshopper Inn, Westerham - TN16 2EU.
http://www.grasshopperinn.co.uk/

Not the cheapest pub, but really nice and has a huge car park. Quite a lot of events there, so you'd have to consult their calendar before everyone heads down there!

Oxted Inn, Oxted - RH8 9HR.

Cheap pub (its a Weatherspoons), but it backs on to a huge car park for the town shops. Always been very quiet when I've been that way on a Sunday.

Both of these are on/just off the A25, and so are pretty accessible from the motorway or other routes.

worzel 15-07-2010 12:40 PM

The good old "Arsegroper" would be a cracking venue.

As you say, a huge car park, easy to get to.

Seems a goody to me

Chunk 16-07-2010 08:40 AM

Been to the Grasshopper for a few car meets.

Good venue, just down the road from me

tbtstt 16-07-2010 08:56 AM

Its only 10ish minutes from my girlfriends, so it would be ideal for me as well - would be great to have a meeting spot just down the road!

tbtstt 17-01-2011 10:35 AM

Another idea to add to the list.

Inn On The Pond, Nutfield (near Redhill) - RH1 4EU.
http://www.theinnonthepondnutfield.co.uk/

About the same price wise as The Woodman, similar size car park to The Woodman as well, but a slightly more central location, so perhaps better for those coming from East Surrey.

worzel 17-01-2011 11:50 AM

That looks like a great choice. It would get my vote for sure.

Listening to them talking at the meet on Saturday, they were talking about the next one in Surrey, this looks just the ticket :ok:
