Looking at the state of the hoses I think you were lucky to make the power you did. Also lucky not to get a problem on the Germany run. Looking a lot better after the 1st clean. I won't be able to call you Rusty anymore after its finished. Glwtp :ok:

Crowman 19-06-2012 09:29 AM

Hi Nige
It certainly explains the poor running and poor throttle response .
The jubilee clip was just about holding it onto the Turbo .
Very lucky to do the Germany trip mate .

Nige once the jungle drums start to beat You will have far better pis s taking ammunition mate .

Skullfudge 19-06-2012 09:45 AM

You will notice such a difference when the car is back together matey.

A while off yet but the time will soon go and you will have a very sort after car.

All the best dude :worthy:

Gavsti555 19-06-2012 09:56 AM

The HIDs you have are far too silly bright for standard lenses (not the dome projector type). I'd be inclined to remove them and go back to standard bulbs and the current ones are very blinding to other road users. More OEM that way too ;)

If you want to keep the HIDs, get a new kit as they're only about 70 quid and the new ballasts are less than 1cm thick and have a much smaller footprint than the old ones you currently have.

You may well be right mate.
The kit is a ball ache and the extra wiring is never easy to get really neat .

Its all plug and play.

worzel 19-06-2012 12:52 PM

Don't get me started on those light!

Jeeeeeeesus they are bright.

Scott.T 19-06-2012 01:21 PM

My turbo intake on the classic went the same way, hence the samco style replacement.
Are you going to cut off a limb and buy an OE one, or just get a subtle black samco version ?

Will be a black samco Scott, I was toying with going to Jap performance and seeing if they have a good condition one, but they will only sell from a blown engone i guess.

Im buying a new TMIC, which will cost a fortune, as cant find a mint Ver5/6 anywhere., been looking for months now.

Will either go parellel fuel rail, or reversed flow. along with inlet spacerkit.
New cam belt kit.
Tidy up alternator, air con etc

Oh and will check the plugs are a nice fit

I gave my mint V5/V6 intercooler to Rob, so give hime a shout.
It will be black not silver but nothing a can of alluminium paint can't sort.

C. J. 19-06-2012 01:41 PM

If you need me plug socket again let us know ;)

Scooby_Greg 19-06-2012 06:02 PM

Good luck with the build Martyn - look forward to seeing the progress updates. The finished article with be a unique piece of Subaru history :-)

Crowman 21-06-2012 06:40 PM

Made good progress .
Front panel all rust ground out to fresh metal, rust treated and 4 coats of zinc primer.

Next will be white primer and then top coat.

Following that will be same treatment for battery tray .

Not a huge amount to do before it goes to paint shop .

Tomma 21-06-2012 08:48 PM

Good work, looks like a lot of graft has gone into a short amount of time!

Gavsti555 21-06-2012 09:13 PM

Looking good mate

AndyWRX 22-06-2012 08:29 PM

Cheers Andy
It's a little daunting , but no rush as funding needs to be well spread put

Crowman 29-06-2012 07:04 PM

A little more work on the P1
Picked up a boost solenoid bracket, front bumper support and boot lid off a Ver 6 Sti from jap performance.
Reason for replacing these is the dreaded rust.

Ground out all the rust from Inner wing , primed and top coat then 1200 paper the edges to blend to old pain work .
needs one more coat as still a tiny bit patchy .
Finish is brighter as fresh paint but wont show to much as the area is 85% covered by brackets , air box etc.

Next is make good battery tray then just a cut and polish of remaining areas of engine bay.

Then a last I can strip the res off the car and send if to coach works

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/c3a4dd59.jpg

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/c4322a00.jpg

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/93364346.jpg

Decided to go for anothe boot as the one on the P1 has quite extensive rust around the various bolt holes and rubbe stoppers
This one has normal scratches but is mint and rust free

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/0ab94340.jpg

My mate Rich came around and drilled out and tapped about half a dozen snapped bolts .
He is a dab hand at that sort of thing.

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/52ad66e3.jpg

Tomma 29-06-2012 08:10 PM

Looks like its coming along nicely :ok:

thepieman 29-06-2012 08:24 PM

Look at you with your posh prototype type thing....... If you keep replacing parts it'll be a different car!!

Keep up the good work mate.... And yes, I'm proper hammered:)

Crowman 29-06-2012 08:46 PM

A few magnets then pal . Good man

thepieman 29-06-2012 09:01 PM

Just Agnew !!!

Took me 4 times to sign in!

I'm going bed now.........

Pip pip and all that

majorscooby 29-06-2012 09:28 PM

When we spoke whilst over giving you a good drilling you wasnt going to paint that area, but i bet your glad you did, It looks a million times better. :10:

Hmmmm im thinking the whole engine bay should be done now. :getmecoat:

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/c4322a00.jpg

Crowman 29-06-2012 09:50 PM

It does show though Rich .
It would be nice to do it all , but I'm just going to do the rusty stuff , which is mainly covered up by stuff .

Hongkongfooi 29-06-2012 09:57 PM

who have you chosen to do the painting and when?

Crowman 29-06-2012 10:11 PM

Tim, it's going to treslers on belbrook , have a good arangement and I can be actively involved in the project , told them I will be down every day taking pics . 2 weeks and hopefully it will be down their .

AndyWRX 01-07-2012 06:43 PM

Very nice mate :-)

Crowman 09-07-2012 10:45 PM

Another few bits done on the P1.

Inner wing flat back with 1200 then some fine cutting compound and a polish, pleased with match to rest of engine bay .
Top coat applied to boost solenoid bracket then fitted back to strut turret

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/ffb2ef21.jpg

Slowly cleaning harness and refit boost solenoid etc.
Marking up position for Alarm bracket

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/5c22db60.jpg

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/1e82cd08.jpg

Time to attack the battery tray and surrounding area, looked like battery acid had been spilt down inside of wing at some point also.

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/29c21a25.jpg

Took some work this side , wanted to be sure I had ground out as much rust as possible.
A few coats of primer, pleased wih result.

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/4e08f331.jpg

1st coat of top coat, looks quite grey, takes 3 coats to settle the right colour.
Will leave for 24 hours and then flat back and apply another two coats .

http://i376.photobucket.com/albums/o...s/b5e169b0.jpg

Onto the bumper support bar, it was in excellent condition as off a Ver6 freshly imported.
A rub down and general key of paintwork

Hanging in my cluttered garage after 2 coats of primer

Crowman 10-07-2012 02:49 PM

Crowman 15-07-2012 12:20 PM

Another little update after half a day on it.
Bumper bar finished
Mint TMIC as supplied FOC by SES members. Beer tokens will be supplied at next opera unity .

Interior stripped, spoiler off, just side skirts and rear bumper and off to the coach works :-)

It's best time to do it .
Going to be very careful when putting car back together :-)

Looking good Martyn, and pleased my old TMIC is going to a good use.
It's been sat in a box in the garage for about 6 years.
To think it nearly got chucked a few months back.

The TMIC is as good as they get , and it's exactly same as Sti5/6 , same size etc .once silver and the factory sticker is on it , will be perfect .
